StrongWoman333: If you must use savlon, just very very little is ok. I used wash cloth for my baby in his early days. Now we have graduated to a very soft foam. 2 Likes |

StrongWoman333: If you have concerns about the water, you can use cooled boiled water. I.e. boil the water you’ll use in the evening in the morning, pour it inside a bucket/bowl with cover and use as cold water in the evening. I use my bare hands with soap to bathe my baby until he’s 3 months, then I switch to wash cloth and start using sponge as from 1 year or as the spirit leads. No rashes, no eczema, no dry skin. If you are using sponge, always rinse it out thoroughly after use and dry it before using it again. Moist sponge can harbor germs and be spreading rashes and you won’t know where it’s coming from. I wash their hair 2 or 3 times in a week with baby shampoo. Other times, I use only water to rinse the hair to moisturize it. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Afternoon house Pls don't say my questions are plenty while me I don't answer questions. We are still gaining experience. Thank you to all the mamas that take time to answer questions here. My 6 weeks old has had ela for about 3 weeks now. We've been applying one cream given to us at the hospital as they said mycoten was strong for new born. Mil decided we get the red flower to bath him to clear it out cos his hair is now going backwards, I didn't complain cos I've seen mamas make ref to it here. Now my issue is, what was brought were herbs and not one flower. I didn't grow up taking herbs so not used to even seeing them. Pls i need the help of the mamas that know about herbs here to confirm that these are fine, else I pack it one corner. Someone picked it from the woman so I don't even have a means to contact the herb woman.pls is anyone familiar with them. The pictures are not loading but there are 4items; two sets of folded leaves(said one is the dried red flower), roots or stems or bark (the popular thing I see in agbo) and something else (attached). Pls mamas comment on this and what other options do I have?

Ubiero: The ring method was not done for my son but i know others who had it said they were told not to touch it till it fell off. The other method your grandma referred to was done and I didn't enjoy it cos people said it wud heal in a week but I had to see another Doctor and a pediatrician when it didn't heal as expected. Finally healed after 3 weeks when a cream was recommended by a pediatrician. If you're not comfortable with the way it looks, visit the hospital for their own opinion. Don't wait till Friday. 1 Like |

iaatmgirl:As for me, anything agbo or herbs, I don't even want to hear it at all I already stood my ground from day1. My hubby too knows my stand hence, he has already told his mum that aside breastmilk, nothing else is to be given to my baby. During this colic issue, she was almost suggesting one herb hubby told her no. You wouldn't have allowed her go this far in the first place now it will be difficult to tell her no. These babies are too fragile and delicate for we mothers to be pumping things into their small system. Just apply wisdom and be careful as some MIL can be naughty sometimes. The day my own was massaging my baby's body with hot water when we just arrived from the hospital, I asked her what about the head? Instead of her to tell me her reason she can't massage the head jejely, she was murmuring something in annoyance in her dialect me I just kept a straight face. She had this feeling of I'm teaching her her job. I later told DH he said she said since baby didn't pass through the birth canal as per CS, no need massaging that the head shape is OK. I wonder why she didn't tell me that and she was almost taking offence ...you are the one that carried your child for 9months you also know the pains. Those old women actually mean well for our babies but some of their practices are old fashioned this is the 21st century! 2 Likes 1 Share |

queensnow abeg come and look at it if you can decode this one because me I didn't experience eela and don't know much about managing it. My advice is, march to elewe omo by yourself and ask for the red leaf. Otherwise google the picture (red acalypha), you may just see it to pluck around you. Bathe your baby with water it's been infused in, do not give your baby anything to ingest biko iaatmgirl: |

StrongWoman333: Yes, if it’s head to toe wash. I used Sebamed baby shampoo. Since it’s MIL that is bathing baby now, just calm down until you take over. Personally, I don’t scrub my babies. I use my palm to bathe and my fingers to wash the hair. Their are not dirty and their skin is soft and tender. 3 Likes |

Breast milk (I express and rub every 2 or 3 hours) or homemade coconut oil after bathing These are the only 2 things that works on my baby's rash. Cc; StrongWoman333 2 Likes 2 Shares |

StrongWoman333:it is not. Wash hair with shampoo once a week or twice max, and wash with ordinary water at other times. Foam doesnt get clean, it keeps foaming no matter how long you rinse and eventually harbours germ. The sponge is ok 3 Likes |
