Anioma State And South East Zone by selemempe: 9:07pm On Jul 09, 2018 |
Still on this matter, I know many people from Anioma axis think that they should be a seperate ethnic group. How ever its a fact that they answer Igbo names, speak a dialect of the Igbo language, have Igbo traditions and share a border with mainland south east. Yes they may also have a connection to the binis but for some reason they did not evolve bini names, language nor culture. They evolved Igbo There is never going to be a way in this country that a man whose name is Chibuzo Dike will not be regarded as Igbo by everybody. Why do u think it was Gej and not peter odili that became yaradua's vp. Why do u think Kaduna Nzeogwu's coup is regarded as an Igbo coup. We the Igbos of se only agreed to be called igbos recently too. Otherwise before the white men came, we were Ngwa people, Bende people, Nsukka people, Agbenu people, Wawa people etc etc just like you are Anioma people. There has never been (and will never be) a central Igbo ruler. What we have as Igbos is our shared language and culture. Nothing else. A DNA check might reveal that the Aba people are more brotherly to the Akwaibom people than they are to the onitsha people. However, all that dont matter any more. What matters is that in the 21st century, we all speak the same language and share same culture. Let Anioma state be created and joined with the south east for the following reasons [1] It will be a predominantly Igbo-speaking state [2] Even if the people do not consider themselves Igbo, there are more cultural ties that bond them with other states in the south-east geo-political zone than the south south geopolitical zone 3] Aniomans have always been treated as second class Igbos because they were part of the Western Region and Bendel States. If they are made part of the south-east, that will stop. [4] Let us face it, the Urhobos, Itshekhiris and Ijaws in Delta State outnumber the Aniomas and would not allow them to achieve dominant positions within the state [5] At the moment, the south-east is the one zone crying out for more states. [6] There is nothing wrong with states in one zone being on different sides of the River Niger. Remember that Benue State is south of the river, as is Kwara State, yet they are in the north central zone. [7] According to Cornelius Adebayo, the Yorubas in Kwara and Kogi States want to create Oya State and make it part of the south-west. If this happens, a precedence has been set. [8] I know a lot of Aniomans have a deep afinity towards Benin and Edo but being part of the south-east does not mean this will end. The Yorubas of Ilorin do not stop celebrating the Oro festival just because they are in the north-central political zone. [9] A lot of Aniomans have not been able to occupy positions their abilities deserve because they have been victims of not being clear cut members of ethnic groups. For instance Senator Patrick Osakwe of Asaba could not be put forward for senate president, despite the fact that he is probably the most qualified Igbo-speaking senator for the job. Being part of the sout-east will resolve this. [10] Creating Anioma State and making it part of the south-east, should lead to an increased westward migration of Igbos. This is necessary because of the high population density in the region which is putting pressure on resources, leading to a host of social problems. What are your thoughts. Remember the south needs more states to be able to challenge the north in the national assembly and south east particularly need one more state to be able to have an equal voice with other zones in Abuja. 8 Likes

I need views on this from anioma people and igbo people Modified: So after getting views from different people, I came to the conclusion of the following (as at the time the thread was at 34 pages) 1. Many Anioma people want to get Anioma state for south east. 2. Many Anioma people now believe that they might infact be part of the larger Igbo nation. 3. Some Anioma people from mostly Ika dont feel like joining south east nor identifying as Igbo 4. Most Anioma people believe onitsha should be part of Anioma state. 5. Most south easterners are willing to accept Anioma as the 6th south east state if they will drop their claim of onitsha. 6. Most Anambra folks are of the opinion that the current onitsha metropolis has far out grown what it was in the 60s and therefore cant be part of Anioma anymore. 7. Most Anambra folks would not want onitsha carved out of Anambra. 8. Some south east folks want a signed document from Anioma traditional and elected leaders saying that they would forever be part of south east before igbos can officially support the creation of an Anioma state. 2 Likes |

In a sensible country, ibos in Delta and Rivers states should be part of South east, while Yorubas in Kwara and Kogi should be in the South west. The North don't want this because it will make this ethnic groups strong, bigger and influential thereby reducing the Northerners' influence. 29 Likes 3 Shares |

oooduancalmdown:we are of a similar mind. Why would someone whose name is bukola say that he is not yoruba. On wat basis was states and zones created in nigeria? For instance why did the british divide up the southern protectorate btw east and west but didnt divide the north even wen it was clear that the middle beltans had a different ethnicity All was done to allow hausa to dominate 14 Likes |

Anioma state isnt a bad idea however, I dont think it will be created since Nigeria has no law on how a new state can be created. Let us all not forget that all the 36 states in Nigeria were created, not one was created during civilian rule. The reason for this is that civilian rule has no laws on how to go about creating states but the military could do anything they liked. Anioma state is a good idea but it is not possible 1 Like |

But i know the politics behind all that...I believe once they join south east all those talk will reduce or die. gidgiddy:its not impossible. Presure only has to be put on NASS. The necessary laws can be madr to accomodate it. But first the south east (which is the zone that needs one extra state for equity) needs to come together and decide that we will all support Anioma state for the south east zone. Other state agitations in the se will cease in favour of only anioma. Ekweremadu is the chairman of consitutional review...he can do something about it. We need more lands in se. No need to further break any se state to create an inviable state. 4 Likes |

oooduancalmdown:while i am with u on that, being a strong ipob member, i however have to say that the power we have as nigerians, we may not have agaim if we break up. The problems we have might be solved if we restructure properly. A restructure that allows ethnic groups scattered all over different 'states' to come together. A restructure that allows groups to control the security and economy. A restrucure where the fg concentrates on millitary, finance policy, and foreign policy mainly. A restructure where offshore oil belongs to fg and not to niger delta (like in the u.s). A restructure where by sharia law, and other cultural and religious law is removed from our mainstream politics. Where govt doesnt sponsor pilgrims. If we cant get all these in restructure, then it is best to disintegrate |

Re: Anioma State And South East Zone by gidgiddy: 11:24pm On Jul 09, 2018 |
selemempe: I dont think you understand. Nigeria has no law on how to create a new state. Before you even start talking about Anioma state, there has to be a law on how to go about creating a new state. In other to create Anioma state, it would mean that all the Igbo legislatures would have to sponsore a bill to change the constitution and introduce a way to create new states. This bill will then be put before the national assembly where people from all the zones will vote if it will become law, and already, the North are not happy with creation of new states, which means the bill might fail. Even if the bill passes and becomes law, the people in the Anioma will then have to go through a vigorous process to disengage themselves from Delta state. The hurdles to cross makes Anioma state impossible. The way Nigeria is presently structured, no new state can be created anywhere in the country. The only way an "Anioma Province" will ever see the light of day is if Nigeria breakes up and Anioma joins Igbos in their new country. But as far as Nigeria is concerned, an Anioma state is simply not possible 1 Like 1 Share |

gidgiddy:All u said are simple legislative processes. They might look cumbasome...but they are actually simple. The north got sharia through legislative means. The midwestern region left the western region thru legislative means. The clamour for state police would be achieved soon and it would be through legislative means. If se interest are to be aggregated, the most burning one should be the creation of one more state for se. It should even come b4 restructuring because it is wen we have the numbers in NASS that we can influence restructuring to favour us also. If anioma ppl want their own state (and they do) and se ppl want an extra state (and we do)...the nxt thing is to team up and make it a national issue..even b4 restructure. One extra state for se and then the recognition of the geopolitical zones in the constitution followed by restructuring. All can be gotten in a democracy if our foolish politicians are not just in abuja to answer name and live large. paramakina202:no. Am from se 1 Like |

I have said more than 20 times Anioma people are not Igbos and will never. that the name Anioma sounds igbo doesn't mean it has igbo correlation coz in terms it might mean different thing entirely. Anioma people are not Igbos please, the Op should stop tying Igbos on their neck. all of them are binis and no single igboman is found in delta state coz uptill today am yet to see an igbo man from delta state. Anioma is not igbo. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Juliusmalema:this bigot from the West. This post is not about Anioma being Igbo or not. Only an individual has the right to decide his ethnicity. Nobody is calling them Igbo. Only they can say their ethnicity. Some of them say they are Igbo like the former Ohaneze president from ogwashi ukwu while some say they are not like Sunday oliseh Wat this post is about is the need of the south east to have one extra state to make it equal with other zones and the quest of the Anioma people to be carved out of Delta. The south east doesn't have to be an only-igbo region. After all the sw is not only for yorubas. The last I checked there is ijaw people in ondo state. Also the north west is not only hausa Fulani. Now run along boy 27 Likes 2 Shares |

One is that anions is pure Igbo...the asagba of Asana was once then head of Igbo traditional rulers The former ohaneze chairman was anions man So that's aside..I doubt if they would create state but what we should be fighting is regional restructure where anions would join their cousins in East while Yoruba in kogi will join their nephews in the west 4 Likes |

ariesbull:Yea... i believe wat the op mean is that Anioma people are mostly Igbos even if a few are edoid. I believe the north can compromise the creation of one more state for the south if our politicians play their cards right. With se having only 5 states, its logical that one more state can be created for the zone. Even with one more state in the south, the north will still have 4 senators more than the south, so they can compromise. The proposal is already in front of the ekweremadu constitutional review committee. what our politicians need to do is to come together and agree that Anioma state for south east is the best step in state creation....and then push it into the national discuss as far as restructure goes. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Re: Anioma State And South East Zone by gidgiddy: 6:52am On Jul 10, 2018 |
selemempe: I have tried to explain this to but it can't get through. Before Anioma state can be created, a law must be passed that allows the creation of new states. It is only when that law is passed you can start talking about Anioma state. You are here talking about the creation of Anioma state so that Igbos can get one more state but you do not seem to realise the same law that will create Anioma state will also allow the North to create more than 20 new states if they want this. The same law will allow the West to create 5 new states or more. The Mid-West want at least 5 states including the proposed Spa state With everybody having the power to create as much state as they want, state creation would lose its value 1 Like |

Isn't this funny? First you state that you know that majority of Anioma want to be a separate entity from Igbos yet you are trying to force them to become Igbo. Isn't that the same thing Nigeria is doing to you? Forcing you to be part of an entity you despise? Why don't you leave Anioma people alone if they don't want to join you.
