pls house, if i invest #300k on t. bills at the rate of 10% with duration of 91days. how much is likely to be the interest and when will the interest be paid?. tnks

Your interest should be around N7500 before deduction of transaction & custody fees which should not be upto N200.. So you should have a think 7,300. The interest is at most a day after the actual investment. However if you choose to reinvest you will get it when you investment matures.

Terminating it tomorrow you would have held it for about 98days. Your daily interest is about 332.7 instead because transaction and custody fees was deducted from it too. If it is sold at that exact rate you got it you would neither loose nor gain. However the prevailing market rate seem to be lower than the rate you got it. If sold at the prevailing market which is hovering around 11. you should gain more. Hope your contract didn't state any penalty for not keeping to terms?
At the last auction, the marginal rate for 364 days was 11.5 (less than the 13.55 I got in March earlier this year.)

I subscribed with Stanbic IBTC, so there was no penalty stated in my investment letter.

Thank you Freeman67.

I appreciate the time.

Somebody mentioned here that they request their own rate from their bank. Isn't that for only people with 50 million Naira? I thought if you didn't have 50 million you just went with the bank's rate

I'm a new investor in Treasury Bills.
I made request at GTbank worth of #3m on 4th of July 2018 for 91 days. Second day, I received a message from GTbank that #2,925,205.48k has been debited from my account.
Processing fee of #100 and custody related fees of #1,047.95k also deducted.
With all these analysis, how many percentage were given?

If your bank will not give you the best possible advice that would benefit you instead of them, then you should change bank. With Treasury bills, you get your interest upfront, so about 120,000 Naira if for 364 days. You can reinvest that 120,000 Naira. But with fixed deposit, you wait till the maturing date. Your bank does not want to give you the 120,000 to reinvest that's why they want you to do fixed deposit instead. Change bank brah

2.45%. Brah it's better you just leave your money there for one year so you get the full 12% which should be 360,000 Naira.

Can't believe I'm giving Treasury bill advice haha. Used to be a novice here. Thanks to all those I learnt from in this forum.

Your interest is N3,000,000-N2,925,205.48=N74,794.52 before the deductions.
Using:I=PRT/100
The rate will be:R=N74,794.52*400/N3,000,000=9.9726
The rate therefore is approximately 10%
But your actually interest after deductions is N74,794.52.-N100-N1047.95=N73,646.57.
At the maturity of your investment, you will have N3,000,000.00 credited into your account.
Hope this helps?

How did you get the 12%?

I think you are going to need to convert your dollar to Naira first. I learnt the government also offers foreign currency-denominated bonds, but at a lower rate. I don't know much about those.

N200, what bank?

The lowest I have been charged for investment in about the same range was N300 - I think that was for 200k. I was charged about N700 for a transaction of 400k (my highest), if I remember correctly, last year or early this year. Access and Stanbic.

So, it helps to know what bank is that.

FBN....

I do not know about Access but I know Stanbic transaction fee alone is N300.

For me tbs serves two purposes:

1. For those who are not ready to start a business.
2. For those who do not want to take risks.

Maybe a 3rd and 4th;

3. Diaspora Nigerians who wants to save money (and also gain interest as a plus) before finally returning to the country to invest.
4. Novices who wouldn't know how to invest in poultry lol, so the safer options is tbills.
Sorry I just thought of a 5th;
5. Already made billionaires who even if they leave their billions in tbills for 15 days at 0.05%, they are still getting upfront millions in interest, just for 15 days o.

There is reason why its called Nigeria Treasury Bills. And our Legal Tender is Naira.

If you want to get Interests in dollars...Invest in Nigeria Eurobonds. But then You have to invest in Dollars and thereafter you get your coupons too in Dollars

Good morning everyone. I just treasury bills. I will like to know the pros and cons for choosing number of days whether 30, 90, 364 etc.

Good morning doctor,
First, there are only 3 available tenors in the T-bills primary market: 91, 182, and 364 days.

The pros of long tenors include a higher interest earnings, while the cons include inaccessibility to your funds for a longer period. Then it's vice versa with the short tenors.

AXA's is a collective investment fund that invests people's funds into T-bills majorly, as well as other money market instruments (FDs and CPs)

To calculate your returns, you use the simple interest formula:
I =PRT/100
