Right now Chinese company are setting up factories in Ghana with the intension of entering Nigerian market. We use the way tokunbo cars exporters used cotonue has a base to target Nigerian market and it worked for Benin republic so much that 30% of their GDP is actually based on Nigeria's tokunbo car market.
We lack industrial infrastructures and any body setting up industry must provide those infrastructures which will add to the cost of production.

I'm aware that Nigeria has advantage in certain in certain way for example we have edge in petrochemical, fertilizer. Plastics and certain Agricultural product but I doubt we will benefit much from this agreement with the current attitude of our leaders.

South Africa is very industrialised with many reputable universities and colleges and training facilities , they have put around 30% of their GDP on education and skills development in preparation for such things , and I bet you they will be the biggest gainers in Africa. I suggest you check the works of Dr. Ha-joon Chang, particularly "Kicking Away the Ladder". No country has ever successfully industrialized without protectionist policies, and free trade policies only help rich countries get richer and poor countries get poorer as capital flows from poor to rich countries.

Let say the number of unemployed people in Nigeria is 10 and government created 10 openings and filled them those 10 unemployed.

That employment won't be sustainable.

With time when the economy adjusts to that (long-run adjustment), those 10 will lose their job and the others.

Do you know why?

Over production. Once Aggregate supply exceeds Aggregate demand, unemployment becomes inevitable. This is because the excess supply will cause prices (Aggregate Revenue) to fall.

This will affect profitability and firms will cut down down on production and start laying off workers.

This layoff will cause the workers to lose their income, hence aggregate disposable income will fall.

With this fall in aggregate disposable income, demand for the already over produced goods will fall, causing a further fall in profits.

This will lead to depression.

But how do you great sustainable employment?

A government can create sustainable employment by influencing the Aggregate demand curve to the right. That is, giving people the purchasing power to demand more for available goods.

In the short run, this would mount inflationary pressure in the economy, but in the long run, firms will adjust to the windfall by increase their production. This will lead to increase in demand for labour (employment).

Cheaper goods increases disposable income.

For instance, if a Nigerian goods cost 20 Naira and foreign goods cost 10 Naira. This means that Nigerians will have extra 10 Naira for every demand of that foreign goods.

There are 2 advantages:

1. This will lead to increase in investment funds (more companies more jobs)

2. Increase in aggregate demand (more production more workers)

Though the Nigerian company that sells at N 20 might (but not always the case), free trade will lead to more jobs, higher standard of living and a more sophisticated economy.

Free trade will not only reduce the cost of production, but will as well force us to adopt a comparative advantage posture in foreign trade.

Yes, Nigerians will be forced to give up the production of those goods with high cost structure to focus on squarely on our strengths.

I don't think EU would be stupid enough to leave Nigeria for Morroco.

Our geo-position in Africa is very strategic, we have the largest internal market in Africa, I think we have a better democracy than Morroco, our population is youth driven, our economy is more sophisticated and most importantly, Nigeria is a regional power.

Even if they decide to boycot Nigeria, we can punish them by pegging our Naira to Dollar exchange rate higher but maintained a stable domestic price and a de-dollarized local economy.

This move means we will sacrifice more of ND oil and FX. China is still doing it but not with oil.

This policy will make it unprofitable for them to dumb in Nigeria.
