lessonslearned:Hi mama, let me pitch in a little here. A 70 year old woman definitely can't do what omugwo entails. She herself is basically an invalid. My own mother only Stayed 2 weeks( I was in the hospital during this time sef) before she sent for her younger sis and left. She told me she's too old to really care for me and my baby which is true cos she suffers arthritis, ulcer and hbp and is 70+. So it's sad that you have to be burdened with someone incapable of giving you relief and rest. Mama is old please don't be upset with her and her demands and complaints( it's unending actually at that age). You can get a live out maid that will assist you with the chores, whilst mama continues with baby bathing Lolz. You need rest mbok try and see if you can get a much capable omugwo rep or just endure till she leaves. God will continue to give you strength and patience. 16 Likes |

Talk to your husband again about how she is not so much of a help due to her age. That you wouldn't mind him getting someone that can assist you with chores for now despite mama still being around. lessonslearned: 3 Likes |

Na holiday mama come do for your house Funny enough, they prefer sending them to stay long in daughter -in-law's house cos that one will cook and clean and try to please. Whereas her own daughter will tell her pop and plain that she is tired o I can only add that probably you should start bathing baby yourself. This way she may know that there is really nothing left for her to do than to end the holiday and go home so you can rest a bit. Pele. You are a nice person that's why she sends you message up and down and says she won't eat this and that. Oh well, we know it's not easy to care for very old people. Let alone combining that with caring for a newborn. Not the right time for holiday at all And forget trying to convince your husband. They don't do the extra cooking and chores etc so can't truly understand. Just zero your mind, that it won't be forever. Don't make her uncomfortable. Just start bathing baby when and if you can cos mama still feels she is helping you Cc-lessonslearned 8 Likes |

lessonslearned:Nne, cuz of her age endure... All this old people can be a handful but if u put her in the shoes of your mom, u have no option than to overfeed her with that love and care without complaining too much.. It's not easy, especially with your new baby but since u already have a routine, just stick to it. Finish up, lock yourself in the room and have a good sleep when baby is sleeping.. HIH? 4 Likes |

StrongWoman333:Madam, this is harsh o. 70 years old woman fa., remember she is an old woman. Though, they might not be doing that to their own daughter, but as a wife, patience should always be our watchword. I experienced this same thing she is talking about, though hubby is with us. My husband twin sister will even come from her house to greet her mother, in the process, she will send me to the market to go buy soup ingredients for her to take home, me wey just born o. Instead of the mother to correct her, she will tell me to go quickly and come back on time. you can imagine that, my husband is always angry at them. Though they don't do that when he is at home, but whenever he is not around. How did he know? he met me on my way to the market one day and aske where I'm going to, I told him his sister sent me to the market. She frown face whenever she is eating, its either my rice is undone or soup no sweet. So many attitudes she put on then but I endured because she won't stay forever. The day she left, it was as if they pour Ice water on my body. Since then, my hubby said she won't come to his house for omugwo again, that old people are just burden to new mothers. So, lets be patient with them biko. 9 Likes |

comtem2011:What is all this 70yrs talk all about sef? OK let me tell you my own. My MIL is 75 yes 75 and weak being a farmer in the village all her life no more hair on her head. My own mum is late. Do you know that my MIL did hot water massage for me for 1 week without being told? I gave birth through cs she massaged my back cos the spinal Anastasia was paining me when I came back from the hospital. Massaged my breast so I can lactate well, massaged my swollen legs and apply rob. There were times she will be doing those and I will be crying in the bathroom missing my mum. Sometimes she almost cried with me to console me. My husband also did the massage but most times it was my MIL. Mil bathe baby, sweep house in the morning and pack clothes in the sun. The only thing she dosnt do is wash baby clothes or mine, cook, and clean.I do all that. MIL also lift my leg to put on chair when its time for me to breastfeed. Though I know she can be naughty at times but her good deeds supersedes her bad so I hardly complain and ignore cos I know I'm still lucky to have her and its not easy. I also take the baby to her at 4 or 5am so I can at least sleep and she brings baby in 2hours time when it is time to suck or bathe that is after she must have done all the pampering for baby not to cry... Your in-laws are not considerate esp that your sis in law though I don't know the kind of relationship you people had but as for me, I don't think I will take it its good to be patient but also good to stand your ground. As for me, I hardly talk I like to swallow things even if they are killing me but my reaction alone go send strong message and the person go fear. . Daughters in law should not suffer in the name of omugwo abeg. 16 Likes |

Breastmilk is the perfect food, gentle on their tummy, no potential allergens, nothing, just perfect Formula is intermediate some babies react some don't - milk of which various brands exist with various natural and synthetic nutrients and supplements Solids, such as pap is a whole other territory entirely - millet, guineacorn, soyabeans, jero, plus all sorts of grains - some people add ginger...etc etc Introducing solids from exclusive feeding is jumping the gun in my opinion, A baby actually only needs milk for the first 6 months. Thats it, nothing else. A baby who was always combi fed can cope easier with solids at 4 plus months (so far the baby is sitting ok oh). Exclusive babies need more time I always advise breastmilk and formula only for the first 6 months If you have any specific reason to introduce solids (impatient mummy/baby not seeming satisfied) start at 5 months with age appropriate cereals only Hope this helps rvpbae: 2 Likes |

I think patience is still the advice we can give to the concerned party.. Although it's not easy but we won't tell her to send her mother in law out. Strength differs when aged people are concerned. My grandma is 79, she bath my baby and back her. Atimes she even wakes up to do vigilante with us (my mum and I. As I came to spend some time with my parents) But then, my Dad's elder sister who is 72 can't go thru such cos she is no longer strong, she has arthritis and her back is bent already. She was even saying she will follow me back to Lagos but my Dad didn't agree ooo. Cos she will become another baby for me to take care. So we can't compare this aged ones just as we can't compare our strength with one another. May God help us all Cc: StrongWoman333 9 Likes 1 Share |

StrongWoman333: Do not compare your MIL to someone else's! Everyone wasn't born or built the same! Your MIL is 75+ and can lift you up with one hand, great! Hers can't and is needy! Awesome!. We should deal with them with respect and remember that one day we too will become MILs too! @ the mama that was letting off steam Just breathe Do what you can and leave the rest Please do not be rude to mama Na old age de do her. Biko. Forgive her 21 Likes 1 Share |

StrongWoman333: Nne at that age they are a handful especially if they have any health challenges on top. If you see what I passed through when my mom came to do omugwo for me, you will pity me. She is diabetic and have hbp. She only bath baby if she has the time.I cook, bath baby sometimes and wash her own clothes sometimes. She even told me that she takes her dinner by 6:30pm because of her health. So I make sure I met her needs coupled with my toddlers. The most challenging part is that she knocks at my door as early as 6 in the morning not minding the fact that I do vigilante, her reason is to check on baby, but I noticed that she only want to come to gist with me. I was so exhausted. I endured because she is my mom and I love her.I understand her. She is back to her base now. Just endure,it will not be forever. 13 Likes |
