Ugosample:dyydxx flye That is what OfficialAPCNig don't understand. I believe in fair trade and not free trade. In fair trade, a country protects her local industries as well as allow a controlled inflow of foreign goods in order to meet quantity demanded without destroying local industries. Jobs that pays well first. Cheaper products second. That is the priority that is helping Switzerland. 2 Likes |

dyydxx: Finally somebody sees the bigger picture. With this agreement, Nigeria's dying manufacturing sector is finished. Any attempt to set up small industry here is doomed to destruction because EU, US and Chinese companies will simply move to smaller African countries, sign tax holiday agreement and move the goods here to Nigeria without any fees. Watch as all those industies in the East die. I pity any Aba manufacturer now. Agbara Industrial Estate and Sagamu will empty out as all companies relocate to Togo, Benin and Ghana. The autocratic governments of Cameroon, Gabon, and Togo will become the new Meccas as those ones will gladly sign tax holiday agreement for years at a time. 1 Like |

The economy is different from the business tycoons. The business tycoons don't care about country or anything. Just the money, and they can make the money anywhere in the world. 1 Like |

bigpicture001: rolling back regulations especially in the financial sector is going to have its effects very soon Trade war that you cannot win is what you are setting up Have you asked yourself why Germany products do well in the international trade despite the high price I'll give you a hint, it's because their products are competitive America lost the manufacturing battle because they are NO LONGER COMPETITIVE in that department They still do very well in the service sector because they are competitive there, but as for manufacturing, except they step up, they are in for a long ting, because all other countries will even hammer heavier sanctions on the U.S. This trunk guy is a maniac |

Ugosample:....the US didn't lose any strength in the manufacturing sector. what happens is that the US. world political influence over economic super advantaged. they use thier economic strength to weird a lot of authority power. and hence signed a lot of trade deals with economic regions making them enjoy good balance of trade against the US, only so that they can always Influence them wen need be. china is man u putting it's currency to gain advantage on trade over developed economies also the cheap labour obtained from factories over there is fuelling china's manufacturing growth.. it's time the US reverse all those trade policies, since most agreement are obselete |

Ugosample: Are we sure it's blacks or unorganized societies like our own that suffer this. Months back South Africans already knew which products must be produced for which countries in Africa, even before they signed. Right now their black business is getting their young industrialists ready to conquer by giving them money and training working with the government. This is not good for industries in countries like Nigeria, it's cheaper to produce quality goods in south Africa than in Nigeria and they give efficient service. We are in trouble with this. Yesterday I was watching on tv on how they want to conquer markets in west Africa, particularly Nigeria . This is not good. 2 Likes |

South Africa is very industrialised with many reputable universities and colleges and training facilities , they have put around 30% of their GDP on education and skills development in preparation for such things , and I bet you they will be the biggest gainers in Africa. Re: President Buhari Set To Sign Continental Free Trade Agreement.. by Nobody: 12:20pm On Jul 12, 2018 |
Ugosample: The foundation of Nigeria was built by white folks as well , like many other colonised nations , the only difference is that we decided to destroy that foundation instead of taking the good in it like nations like South Africa, Kenya and Botswana who are not consumers but producers in their regions . By the way what system did the blacks fit into in south Africa? . My point here was that they were not short sighted, they knew there were talks of such things and organised themselves for the attack, we are only talking now about it when such countries are ready to start the dumbing . Is their organisation and quick thinking thanks to whites? . Yes many black people need reorientation but let's not generalise that all are as disorganised as we are. All blacks started from nowhere , let's not make excuses for dragging our feet. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Here's one paragraph that got my attention: Buhari explained that ordinarily he would have appended his signature to the document long ago, but his slow pace of reading as well as peculiar challenges of Nigeria’s unemployed population informed his decision to withhold assent for the time being. How shameful is that Or shall we say "shameless"? And by the way, couldn't he get someone to read and translate to him in Hausa? What is the SGF doing? This is while Nigeria would remain a FAILED state. O pari |

Re: President Buhari Set To Sign Continental Free Trade Agreement.. by casualobserver1: 5:12pm On Jul 12, 2018 |
OfficialAPCNig: I disagree with you Sir. I suggest you check the works of Dr. Ha-joon Chang, particularly "Kicking Away the Ladder". No country has ever successfully industrialized without protectionist policies, and free trade policies only help rich countries get richer and poor countries get poorer as capital flows from poor to rich countries. 1 Like |

EternalTruths:Let say the number of unemployed people in Nigeria is 10 and government created 10 openings and filled them those 10 unemployed. That employment won't be sustainable. With time when the economy adjusts to that (long-run adjustment), those 10 will lose their job and the others. Do you know why? Over production. Once Aggregate supply exceeds Aggregate demand, unemployment becomes inevitable. This is because the excess supply will cause prices (Aggregate Revenue) to fall. This will affect profitability and firms will cut down down on production and start laying off workers. This layoff will cause the workers to lose their income, hence aggregate disposable income will fall. With this fall in aggregate disposable income, demand for the already over produced goods will fall, causing a further fall in profits. This will lead to depression. But how do you great sustainable employment? A government can create sustainable employment by influencing the Aggregate demand curve to the right. That is, giving people the purchasing power to demand more for available goods. In the short run, this would mount inflationary pressure in the economy, but in the long run, firms will adjust to the windfall by increase their production. This will lead to increase in demand for labour (employment). Cheaper goods increases disposable income. For instance, if a Nigerian goods cost 20 Naira and foreign goods cost 10 Naira. This means that Nigerians will have extra 10 Naira for every demand of that foreign goods. There are 2 advantages: 1. This will lead to increase in investment funds (more companies more jobs) 2. Increase in aggregate demand (more production more workers) Though the Nigerian company that sells at N 20 might (but not always the case), free trade will lead to more jobs, higher standard of living and a more sophisticated economy. Free Trade is fair trade. |
Re: President Buhari Set To Sign Continental Free Trade Agreement.. by OfficialAPCNig: 5:38pm On Jul 12, 2018 |
dyydxx:Free trade will not only reduce the cost of production, but will as well force us to adopt a comparative advantage posture in foreign trade. Yes, Nigerians will be forced to give up the production of those goods with high cost structure to focus on squarely on our strengths. I don't think EU would be stupid enough to leave Nigeria for Morroco. Our geo-position in Africa is very strategic, we have the largest internal market in Africa, I think we have a better democracy than Morroco, our population is youth driven, our economy is more sophisticated and most importantly, Nigeria is a regional power. Even if they decide to boycot Nigeria, we can punish them by pegging our Naira to Dollar exchange rate higher but maintained a stable domestic price and a de-dollarized local economy. This move means we will sacrifice more of ND oil and FX. China is still doing it but not with oil. This policy will make it unprofitable for them to dumb in Nigeria. SA signed it at the venue self. No Africa country is a threat to Nigeria. Cc: EternalTruths |
