Hello Wip7 , Hello Everyone.
I am new here and need your contribution(s). I did my MSc (Civil Engineering) in Water and Environment Engineering (WEE) option but due to the nature of my job and my experience over the years, i now have a flair for Highway Engineering and will love to take it further by pursuing a PhD in Highway Engineering.

Is it possible to be admitted using my Msc (WEE) into PhD(Highway Engineering) or i MUST go for another MSc in Highway Engineering before i proceed to my Phd Studies?

I will be expecting your reply(ies).

Thank you.

It may be possible but this will depend on the university. Each university and country do have specific requirements, you may be given some foundation courses to blend you into some basics of the highway engineering.

So, check the universities offering the course, check the admission requirements and write to them to know what’s up!

Best wishes!

I so much appreciate your contribution Sir. I'd like to publish my undergraduate thesis in one of the free journals you mentioned but the challenge is, I want to pursue a Masters program in pharmaceutical microbiology then proceed afterwards for PhD in related field but my undergraduate thesis was on aquatic microbiology. There's no relevance at all to the area I want to specialise in because I wasn't allowed to choose my supervisor during undergraduate days hence the disparity. Please , should I go ahead with the publication ? I'd also appreciate if you could send some free journals publications to my email; joiceiffy22@gmail.com to guide me. Thanks so much Sir as I await your reply.
Good to find a microbiologist on this scholar's trend. I'm a microbiologist and just kick started my MSc.
How far have your gone. l will like to us to link if research and academic is your passion.

That’s great! You can always consult me here to learn more if you are willing to work in emerging fields of environmental microbiology. I am not microbiologist but I have substantial practical and theoretical skills on environmental microbiology.

You will enjoy the field!

Good day to everyone. This is one of the best thread I have ever come across on nairaland.

Kudos to Prof Wip7 and others that has contributed to this thread.

I had BSc in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, and MSc in Human Nutrition (Public Health and Nutrition)
I am looking at going for a PhD in Molecular Nutrition or Nutrition Toxicology.

Currently there is no Nigerian University that is offering a PhD program in Molecular Nutrition or Nutrition Toxicology.

Please Prof wip7 I want you to advise me on other areas I can do my PhD program in.

And I want you to advise me on foreign universities I can pursue those courses.

Thanks to you all.

Wow, it is interesting to study nutrition. Basically, PhD program in Nutrition Science and Food toxicology is more common in the USA than in European countries, so your focus should in that region. However, you can also consider the following as they are closely related your background and I also I may suggest Toxicology in general rather than just Nutrition since Toxicology will open more areas of research and allow you to spread wings. Check the following:

1. PhD in Toxicology (This can be obtained at Sask Uni in Canada. All graduate students are guaranteed funding if accepted into the program. Minimum stipends are $21,000 for doctoral students.)

2. PhD in Toxicology and Environmental Health

3. PhD in Food Safety and Toxicology (Also available in most universities in Canada, USA and European countries)

To search for scholarship, visit the universities websites, register with Mendeley and Researchgate, Nature for Scholarships.

Specifically, below PhD Scholarships are currently available:

Recent Publication from my PhD student from Tourism Department

Summary: The PhD student research focussed on developing an artificial intelligence inspired model for predicting wastes generated from hotel industries and the re-utilization of the wastes to produce industrial and domestic products. Here, the quantity of various solid and liquid wastes generated from over 30 accommodation sectors (hotels, Guesthouse, resorts etc) was obtained in peak and lean tourism seasons.

The field results enabled us to develop a central composite model and artificial intelligence apps to predict wastes that would be generated for the next 3 years, hence, the results of this research helps the hotel owner and government to design sustainable waste management plans/solutions. Some of the wastes like waste cooking oil were converted to bio-oil to run the generator of the hotel and cost benefit-analyses were examined.

Free and Trusted Search Engines For Academic and Scientific Research

Researching is a significant crucial step in writing a credible and standard index academic papers. Only a well-researched paper with new information, novel solutions and significance to academic and industries inspires the assessor. Also, the manuscript must have genuine and authentic information for credibility. Top-level journals do not tolerate direct, indirect and self-plagiarism and the level are often kept below 5%.

Here, I will focus on some credible academic search engines that have revolutionized the way information is researched by the students and researchers:

1. ScienceDirect (http://www.sciencedirect.com/): This is a leading full-text scientific database offering journal articles and book chapters from more than 4000 journals and 30,000 books.

2. Mendeley (www.mendeley.com): Mendeley is a free academic social network that can help you organize your research, search for latest publication and collaborate with others online, and discover the latest research.

3. Google Scholar (http://scholar.google.com/): Google Scholar is a free academic search engine widely used academic resources for researchers and scholars that indexes academic information from various online web resources. The Google Scholar lists information across an array of academic resources, mostly are peer-reviewed.

4. Microsoft Academic Research (http://academic.research.microsoft.com/): Developed by Microsoft Research, it has more than 55 million publications written by over 21 million authors in over 26 thousand institutions. It indexes range of scientific journals from computer science and engineering to social science and biology. It has brought in many new ways to search academic resources, such as papers, authors, conferences and journals.

Congrats on your recent Phd Scholarship. I do wish you the very best.

Regarding your question: To graduate Phd at EMU, one must published at least 1 reputable article indexed in SCI/SSCI/SCI-E after passing the qualification exam. EMU used to pay 1000 usd to the author for any SCI paper published under EMU name and Turkey equally pay 500-3000 usd per same paper.

For me I was motivated by both the money grin and the need to set myself different, so I graduated with over 25 SCI papers and graduated as the best and successful Phd student my department ever produced since 35 yrs. So I got job just 2hrs after my graduation. I did not stop there, I spend time to increasingly develop myself, sleep late, read wider, learn different things and expand my research field. My increasing SCI publications allowed me to apply for various governmental and independent funding for my research. Having over 60 reputable SCI publications secured me adjunct Professorship/visiting research scientist positions in Canada, USA, UK etc.
I am currently the head of faculty of engineering in my university and I tend to re-direct my research to focus on lab-to-market (where my lab experiments are ready to be commercialized).

Regarding you impressing your supervisor: don’t bother impressing him or her, rather work to develop yourself by researching on emerging fields in your area, developing rare analytical and experimental skills and enhancing your research skills. That way, you will contribute to the society, must have gained highly competitive credentials that will make your supervisor proud of you. This will enable you to work abroad as you planned or wherever your skillset is needed.

You got fully funded at which university if I may ask?

That's nice. Have you chosen an area of research or what did you do in your Msc? If not I can provide you with some emerging areas. Firstly, you may also look at what is done in your chosen University and potential supervisors to work with.

Since my skillset and research experience cut across many scientific and engineering disciplines do not hesitate to get in touch if you need my guidance.

MSc field: quality control/assurance/analysis
but that's not my field of interest.
I'm interested in functional compounds and nutraceuticals especially that of local, commonly used food/plants.
I'm also interested in nutrigenetics but I'm still studying that so it would be for my postdoc studies.
I'm open to new, catchy but relevant fields that would positively impact on my immediate environment.

Have already chosen an area of research in multiscale modelling of injection molding or embossing of polymer. I did something related to that in my Msc research. Submitted my proposal to my intending supervisor anyway because that is where he specialized on. The university name is Chonnam National University.
