Ngozi123:anioma is just an acronym. We are all igbos. Just as u said itz a case of reverse migration. Some from se to there. Some from there to SE and on and on it goes. |

Ngozi123:Have u ever been to Aboh? Go there and see for yourself if they regard themselves as Igbo's, both old and young. Your grandmother married an Igbo man and adopted his culture, which is not a thing to be despised. You should try and visit Aboh and know about your grandmother's people. I can help you if u r really willing 1 Like |

clefstone: Adopting one's culture does not mean that you will drop your language and only speak your husband's language, unless both of your languages are the same, of course. She was a proud Igbo woman before she got married and she was a proud Igbo woman after she got married. Ergo, she had always seen herself as Igbo. 6 Likes |

Ngozi123:of course the Aboh language is an Igbo dialect and is therefore mutually intelligible with your Anambra dialect. However, a people's ethnicity transcends language sometimes, that is the case of the Abohs and surrounding people. Do you know there are Aboh Igbos, who r a minority settler group in Aboh. Visit Aboh and clear your doubts 1 Like |

ghostfacekillar:An Aboh man is best referred to as Aboh, or Ndo-Osimili if u want a broader grouping that would include the people of the lower banks of the Niger. We just call ourselves Aboh and nothing else |

clefstone: So from claiming that Aboh people were not considered Igbos pre-Biafran War to they only spoke the Igbo language to they have a minority Igbo settler group there. How can a minority settler group force the majority group to abandon their own language and take up a foreign one without any brute force? 9 Likes |

Ngozi123:The Igbo people in Aboh are the minority and are later settlers known to have arrived from the east of the Niger. Their dialect is more like the 'mainstream Igbo' dialect. Aboh is a complex community, visit Aboh today |

clefstone:visit aboh visit aboh. I dont need to visit aboh anymore than i need to visit abiriba. Bro let me tell u the simple truth...there is no igbo people who doesnt have that complex history aboh has. We all came from different origins in igbo land. As an udi man from enugu state my origin and dialect is as different from an ngwa man's as u think aboh is from the rest of igbo. The ONLY reason u guys from there feel u are not one with igbos is because the white men did not include u guys in eastern region. Nothing else. There is no complexity in aboh community that doesnt exist in other igbo communities. 6 Likes |

clefstone: This is why compared to Europeans for example, Nigerians have a lot of ethnicities. A ridiculous proliferation of groups where any tiny clan with any tenuous distinction claims to be an independent tribe. It is worse of course among Igbos/Igboid groups. What I always find weird about the arguments of South South Igboid groups is their inability to grasp that their conceptions of Igbos as a monolithic group that differs from them makes no sense. When I schooled in UNN, I had this roommate in my first year from Enugu Ezike, and when a cousin of his visited him and they were speaking, their language might as well have been Icelandic or Finnish or Mandarin to my ears. I could barely comprehend anything they were saying in their hardcore dialect. There are significant cultural/linguistic differences between many Igbo clans. I could bet you that your so-called "Ndo-Osimili" clan have more in common with an Idemili man than an Idemili man has with an Ezza man in Ebonyi. All I can say is the divide and rule antics of the North, particularly through the post-war military administrations has succeeded in the South. They are political geniuses up North to be able to advance common goals as a monolithic bloc while we fragment ourselves almost down to villages claiming to be distinct ethnicities. 9 Likes |

Obi1kenobi:Thank u again bro. These guys dont know the meaning of divide and rule. They also dont know the meaning of tribe and ethnicity. For instance the 12 tribes of isreal are all ethnic jewish. Nigeria might claim to have 250 ethnic groups...but in actual sense its more like 20 ethnic groups and 250 clans or tribes 1 Like

BabaRamota1980:Sorry to burst your bubble, but let’s get this right. You’re listing Igbo towns with outside influence in an Igbo discussion thread and yet you failed to tell us how much of an outside influence many Yoruba towns have too. Since you started it, maybe we should help you complete the listing. 1) Owo town - Bini 3) Lagos (Eko) - Bini 4) Ijebu - Sudan 5) Itsekiri - Bini 6) Ilorin - Fulani 7) Ife - Bini (Izeduwa or Oduduwa) 2/3 Of Ekiti - Bini 9) 2/3 Of Ondo - Bini Hope you’ll leave the thread now. 3 Likes |
