Be at the embassy before 6 am. Make sure you are among the first set to interview. carry 6 months bank statement. Best of Luck. If you are interviewed by the elderly woman @ABuja embassy better for you. In God put God first. I have never seen someone that puts God first and was disappointed.

Oh! I didn't know the fat one was the usual rootless VO. I got interviewed by the fine fair Black Lady in my first interview and she's got no joy, she should be avoided by all means. Her demeanor is not welcoming at all and can throw you off balance.
I will post my transcript in due time.
4peace4:
There are two of them now oooo the first one and popular one is very black and fat while the second is just a little bit chubby light complexion and very cute. Last last the two of them no dey gree ooo na so them they play with ppl future n visa fee upandan the second lady told an applicant that she feels he's a strong candidate that he shud reapply i was like whatt!!! then why did you deny him in the first place then?

I noticed there are two Black American V.Os now, I wonder if the second black lady is as rootless as the usual one. I don't know if she has always been around there though. #LagosConsulate

You are right. I saw two black American women on the day of my interview. Luckily , I was interviewed by one of them; the one that looks chubby and darker.

Good evening all,

I am new here and would really love guidance .

I concluded my US visa interview on the 11th of July. I was denied the visa. I got admitted into West Texas A & M university, Texas for Masters in Business Administration for fall 2018. The purpose of my travel is to upgrade my profile and to get practical business knowledge to return home and manage the plantation my family is setting up as a retirement planning for my parents.

I had travelled to Dubai in December 2013 with family in my final year. I have not been able to travel after then because nysc and the jobs i took afterwards.

On refusing me the visa, the consular officer said, 'no enough proof of ties to home country' .

I intend applying again but i don't know how to resolve this ties to home country thing.

some agents advised that i defer the admission and travel to 2 countries minimum , restructure my profile before applying.

will this aid in resolving the issue?? please advise. ...

Why are u going to the US?
I am going to the US for my PhD degree in chemical engineering at the UKansas

Why are you changing course and school?
It is not as if I am changing a course, biopharmaceutical is classified under biochemical engineering which is an area of specialisation in the field of chemical engineering, I will still have to specialise in biopharmaceutical/biochemical and as for the school I decided to go for a more reputable school in terms of ranking and research

How many school did u apply?

I applied to six schools: UKansas, UNH, UAH, UArkansas, UTK, LSU

How many Admit?

Three admits
Why UK?
out of all the admits, Ukansas happens to be the most reputable in research and chemical engineering ranking. Also, they offer concentration in my area of interest.

What is your study Plan?
I will have to complete 30 hours of credit course work at the graduate level and 24 hours of credit in research dissertation. Usually in the first year, it is expected of me to have a CGPA of above 3.0 after which a general examination in the second year must be passed. The exam involves a written plan of a novel and unique doctoral research followed by an oral defence of such proposal in the presence of research committee.

Do you have area of interest?

My area of interest is biochemical/biopharmaceutical research. Most importantly improving biological based drugs such as proteins, monoclonal antibody, vaccines, insulin and next generational biologics such as engineered tissue and stem cells.

Do you have a supervisor already?

Not at all but I have 3 proposed supervisors that are specialists in my area of interest, Prof mike, Adams and Kung

How do you intend sponsoring your education?

My uncle will be sponsoring my education
Note: I have a Letter head from him saying he will be a sponsor, my only fear is that the amounts are UK account having 60000 pounds and US account worth 40000 dollars but no flow per say, they are savings. The money have been there for a while. Is it a crime to use savings instead of Current account. Also he printed the statements online. He said he will have to be there in the US physically to get the one directly from the Bank. The problem is that he will not be travelling to the US until late September. Will the VO understands?

What does he do?

He is a retired NNPC director that is now into farming, he has choice properties in the UK and US that also bring him income

Why are you not funded?

I contacted the graduate coordinator on this and he said TA positions are filled by domestic student but that as an international student, I would get RA when I arrive on campus. He said Professors will give presentations of their current research work at the start of the program, and that students will be assigned according to their area of interest and RA will be awarded. Infact I have contacted some profs that showed interest.

What will this degree do for you?
With the PhD degree, opportunities are endless, I have always had the short term and long term plans. I planned to work in the industry for sometime to acquire that hand-on engineering experience before finally settling for a lecturing position which will make me a better engineering lecturer.

thanks for the contribution.

so at this point, what should I do differently before applying again? ?

I am not married, I am returning home to manage the family plantation . How else do I prove my ties to home country? ?

Note : During my interview, the consular officer just asked me two questions :

a. why did you choose the school? ?
Through strong recommendations from friends studying in the US . Paul and Virginia Engler college of Business west Texas a & m university has a strong reputation for outstanding performance in business. administration since its inception in 1910. it's is among the top ranked business schools in the USA.

secondly, the school offered me graduate assistantship to pay tuition and fee at an instant rate rather than as an international student.

b. who is paying the balance of your fees?
Mrs xxxx xxxx , my elder sister.

That was all. she handed me an already typed rejection letter. saying my application is being rejected this time, no proof of enough ties to home country.

I want to apply again, what do I do differently? ?

Good morning,

The VOs would always tie rejection to something. The reason for your rejection was because you were not prepared. Home ties is given less emphasis when it comes to F1 Visas.

Read the transcripts here and you would be fine. Your response to the question posed was off point and at best not adequate.

Read through the transcripts here and also download the compiled transcripts on the first page of this thread. Search for a user called folmus and go through his profile, he posted a Facebook link to some F1 orientation videos by consular officers.

Once you've done the above, do a proposed transcript and post it here for fine tuning.

Thank you

Please I need you to review my performance and tell me where to improve.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Try to go through the compiled transcripts of successful approvals.

In your reasons for choosing the school, assistanship should come first in your reasons then saying recommendations from friends is not always a good way to go. EducationUsa, online research or may be your mentor (School professor) is better than saying your friends that are studying in the US.

Draft out a proposed transcript and cross check with friends to see if it's convincing enough and engage in constant mock interview consistently for a week or two before your interview.

Let your story be consistent and remember every details in your application including your first interview. Then put God first before anything.

Explain same way you explained here and hopefully there won't be any problem. Also be ready for why your uncle is sponsoring you and try to emphasize that you will come back to Nigeria to work in the industry/take up a lecturing job

Thanks for the feedback.

Hello everyone,
I was refused F1 visa sometime early July in Abj. I have been able to secure another interview in Lagos this Saturday. This was my previous transcript:

VO: So you'll be going for a Master's in Electrical Engineering right? Can you tell me about this course?
Me: The course runs for about 18 months in which I'll be doing 31 credit courses comprising subjects like: Power System Analysis, distributed generation, etc..I'll also have to present a research thesis to successfully complete this course.
VO: Okay, so who will be sponsoring you?
Me: I will be sponsored majorly by my uncle, he's a production supervisor at ..oil company. Although I also have some cash saved up.
VO: Can I see his SOA please?
ME: passes it to him..(three different SOA)
VO: Where does he live?
ME: Delta state
VO: *Flips through very quickly* Are you married?
Me: No
VO: I'm sorry, You do not qualify for visa at this time.

N/B: On my I20 it my Funding was written as "family funds" because I provided statements of 3 people to the school: Myself, my uncle and My office colleague. My uncle's Statement was the most funded that's why I mentioned him as my major sponsor. Was this approach wrong? Should I have mentioned "my family" as sponsors? Or should I have said "Myself, to be supported by my Uncle where necessary"? Because I'm gainfully employed and have some substantial amount saved up. Funny enough I wasn't even asked about my job or my travel history. It was weird... I'd really appreciate a reply. Thanks.

Hello Guys I hope you all are having a good day.

Pls I would be going for my visa interview soon for my Masters in Information Systems and Technology at University of Michigan Dearborn(UMD) and honestly the major reason I applied to UMD is because of the opportunity to interact and experience what goes on in the FORD MOTOR COMPANY(excites me when I imagine it) as I currently work as a ford service advisor with coscharis motors but I really do not know if its a convincing reason.

I also found that UMD has relatively small class sizes which sounds good to me as I would get the opportunity to interact with my professors and peers easily especially in terms of solving problems and sharing ideas.

pls go through and let me know what you think.
