I need serious advice guys. My nephew who is just 15 years scored 248 in UTME and choosed OAU (medicine) and LASU (Biochemistry) as 1st and 2nd choice respectively. What chance does he have in either school and what is expected of him to score in the post UTME. Prompt response would be appreciated cos I'm thinking of advising his mum to do change of course and institution for him and don't want to sound pessimistic. |

Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by MrEgghead(m): 6:49pm On Jul 08, 2018 |
sandammy:His chances of getting medicine in OAU are low but brighter with Biochemistry in LASU that's if they accept second choice candidates. A lot of factors play pertinent roles in deciding admissions viz: Merit, catchment, ELDS, connection ectera. If he doesn't have the last one, a change of course or institution is necessary unless he might accept settling with any course. 1 Like |

Blackwonder:Sad.. Just 180 would get you into a private med schl. But in public.. One would have 290 and still be struggling to get in... Yet, in med schl, no diff between you with 200 and 290.. Any of you could be withdrawn if you dont sit tight. My point is, try abroad or a private uni in Nigeria, yoyr score is not bad at all, Nigerian factor makes it look like once you dont get high scores, you arent good enough for medicine. Fat lie! 180 and 5credits is enough!(if you do it yourself o) If you are serious, you would pull through. Dont be discouraged, if you mustvstay in oublic, you got no choice than to study hard to beat the competition of admission.. |
Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by Nobody: 6:15am On Jul 09, 2018 |
Blackwonder:Pharmacy is harder than medicine, at least, thats how fooooolish nigerian lecturers make it seem. So if you dont have passion for pharmacy, na no go area o. Look inwards. |

Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by Nobody: 6:19am On Jul 09, 2018 |
Blackwonder:If you are very good and tough, choose oau pharmacy or medicine. Benue is ELDS and pray nobody frm Benue has a higher mark than you , you would get the admission so far you have 200 and above. Oau is not competitive for ELDS. But, to maintain the admission, you gotta sabi crammmmm and super intelligent. 1 Like |

mikebrown92:Thanks bro. The WAEC is mostly Credits I mean C grades. MrEgghead:Thanks for your contributions. I'm thinking of advising his parents to let him change to ondo state medical college. It has all these courses and they also offer predegree programme for medical sciences which medicine anf surgery is part of. |

Hi, everyone. I'll be taking jamb next year by God's grace for medicine and surgery. Please can I get a list of not so expensive and not so cheap state universities that one can easily gain admission into with a combo of good jamb and post utme (lasu is good but the connection no be here). And I don't have the strength to bear the wahala of public universities. Thanks |
Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by MrEgghead(m): 4:43pm On Jul 10, 2018 |
sandammy:Medicine in UNIMED is even now competitive but wouldn't be as stiff as OAU's.. But then, you have to consider their fees and their accreditation status..I don't really think Medicine there is fully accredited by MDCNand there is a risk involved if they fail to acquire full accreditation prior to their first graduation ceremony..The number of years will be elongated. Those two factors are monumentally important, think well about it before making final decisions. 1 Like |

Blackwonder:Nairaland always modifies whatsapp invite links making them inaccessible. Put "chat .whatsapp .com" between the second and third strokes without the spaces and quotation marks. That is, https://chat .whatsapp .com/89rqYcfby6i8tcN3gwCM32 without the spaces. |

Bigboy289:It's normally advisable to score nothing less than 300. However, many students score as high as that these days. So, target nothing less than 320 to be on a safer side. 1 Like |

Nad95:First of all, please note that public universities include all state and federal universities. So, if you don't need 'wahala' as you said, it's better to go to a private university (though I don't know the kind of wahala you meant); it'll be better if you specify. Secondly, the role of indigeneship cannot be over-emphasized in getting admission 'easily' in a state university. Most state universities, if not all, have different amounts paid by indigenes and non-indigenes as tuition and for other services. The amounts for non-indigenes are mostly, if not all the time, on the high side. You may consider this as well. The best bet for you with respect to state universities is your state university. If your state don't have one, then those of other states within your geopolitical zone are better options. For other state universities, your admission is majorly strictly on merit or connection(paid admission). However, in all, a federal university is a better option for me among public universities that are neither too expensive nor too cheap because the advantages outweigh what may be considered as the disadvantages. If you don't mind, you may also consider this. 1 Like 2 Shares |
