Did you flash Lazyflasher-no-verity.zip? And have you tried re-booting after the first reboot at the end flashing TWRP?
Cos the first try usually doesn't boot up, it is at the 2nd try that my phone comes up.

I'm a newbie on this. how do I go about it now cos I can't pass the boot screen.

I did not flash lazyflasher no verity.zip and its not coming up just showing mi logo

you need to reflash that custom recovery... after that flash magisk (root solution better than SuperSU) and finally flash lazy flasher...

After u don enter recovery, flash magisk n lazy flasher..
