By Ogunsona Peter. Igbokoda, a town under Ilaje local government was rocked to her foundation on this historic day. Ilaje people are located in the coastal region of Ondo State, between Lekki/Epe Lagoon and the eastern boundary of Delta State. They can also be found in cohesive diasporic communities in Douala (Cameroon), Sapele/Warri (Delta), Asejire (Oyo) and parts of Lagos State. According to the 2006 census statistics, they have a population of about 290,615 people. It was the day the former students union leader and now presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore woke up the town from her sleep. Nature was in his favour. The weather was completely cool, though the atmosphere wasn't free from rain but it doesn't halt the haggling market women, peasants, farmers, both indigenes and non-indigenes and a huge number of students from trooping to the hall with a mix of excitement and curiosity. Many have come to associate his name with hope in place of despair. The hall was cup runs over to it's holding ability, even if a niddle was dropped from the top of the roof, it will never get to the ground. The feelings from the already seated crowd were running high just because they can't wait to see the former vibrant student union, who led millions of students in protest against the Nigerian government in 1990s. On Sowore's arrival, the crowd rose in ovation screaming "Sho, Sho". The revolutionary stormed the venue with his trademark grin saluting the crowd with his clenched fist. A huge crowd already held him hostage outside the town hall venue which he was compelled to address. Mr. Sowore who dressed in a well native attire, made a walk through the crowd to the podium in what one of the indigenes says it is the highest crowd to have ever graced the town hall since it was created. He started his opening words by commending the people of Igbokoda for the massive turn out and first, he called out the youth leader to make plain the problems facing the Ilaje's. The youth leader lauded Sowore for being a true leader, an activist and a true advocate of democracy. He said "You have just demonstrated why you are the best presidential aspirant at all times to ever visit Ilaje. Most of the leaders will show up and give us stipend when ever they are campaigning without being called upon to listen to our problems and quandary because most of the time we are in a state of perplexity or uncertainty over what to do in a difficult situation." Speaking further, the youth leader lamented on how they've not gotten power for years "We haven't gotten power for fifteen years in Ilaje because all our leaders and politicians have conned us, persuading us to do something by lying to us. We contributed money to some persons to help us with the power but nothing is coming out like a fig tree. We shouldn't be suffering for power" he concluded. In Nigeria, power supply is one of the major challenges her citizens is facing. Power supply difficulties cripple the agricultural, industrial and mining sectors and impede the Nigeria's ongoing economic development. The energy supply crisis is complex, stems from a variety of issues and has been ongoing for decades. Most Nigerian businesses and households that can't afford to do so run one or more diesel-fueled generators to supplement the intermittent supply. Nigerians have been clamoring for twenty-four hours power supply but the former and present administrations have failed them. Many believes the country has been placed under spell not to have power due to billions of dollars which have been allocated to revive the power sector in the country for years but still in darkness. The man of the people at the moment whom most Nigerians have so much believe in, told the Igbokodas' how he will go about bringing back power. "First, the power sector in Nigeria is not working because of corruption and this is the major thing affecting us. The people of Ilaje's should not be shut out from power. On the issue of Fifteen years of not having power, when I become the president next year, we will have a power from Igbokoda to Akure and this will be one of the most important issues to resolve. But before then, we will have to organize a protest and we will do it together. No power, no election." In addendum, he made known his famous campaign acronyms strategy, 'SPICERHEAT', with its interpretation as Security, Power, Infrastructure, Corruption, Public sector reforms, Economy, Restructuring, Health, Education, Agriculture and Tourism. Emphasizing majorly on health and why health is so important in what he will put in place when he become the president of Nigeria “The biggest issue on health is access. A lot of Nigerians do not have access to good health and that is one of the reasons people die easily in the country. "We are in a country where parents are watching their children dying on a sick bed just because they can't afford twenty thousand naira to pay. Whenever the president and his aids are sick, they will fly out from the country in their private jets to treat themselves. What about us that do not have the money to take ourselves out, are we going to die? it is sad and this is one of the things my administration will put into consideration." He concluded his Ilaje town hall meeting by urging the people to get their PVC. "Please I urge you all to get your PVC and take it back with me because your PVC is your Infrastructure, Health Security and the likes." The movement of Omoyele Sowore has become the talk in town amidst the large crowd of the youths basically in their 30's. This will be in air for so many months before he finally declared which party he will take. 2 Likes

Nobody can do anything to change Nigeria. The system coupled with her enormous ethnic and religious diversity won't let it be so. Sowore, Fashola, Soludo, Donald Duke e.t.c have the leadership quality. But I must say that in a country like Nigeria, even the most intelligent leader would be rendered inept when he/she is elected to rule. Sowore would have been a good leader under Oodua Republic where people would be willing to work with him. A country where the people are united under one voice which Nigeria will never be. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

The youth leader lauded Sowore for being a true leader, an activist and a true advocate of democracy. He said "You have just demonstrated why you are the best presidential aspirant at all times to ever visit I can attest to what the youth leader said as nothing but the truth. Previous governments haven't been fair to Ilaje on the issue of power and community development. I went for a burial recently in Atijere, a town within Ilaje area and the place despite having one of the best "electrification" in terms of the poles, cables has been in darkness for over a decade due to power outage. The power project was commissioned by former military Governor Olabode George in late eighties but subsequent administrations failed in maintaining it. |

As much as I yearn for a young charismatic, articulate and intelligent leader...this man is bereft of ideas, he lost my vote the day he was pushing a cart in the market for campaign purposes,"Same old same old media tactics by the average pilfering politicians" his media S.R is only been funded by grants and we know the ass-licking that goes on when applying for grants, which is even probably why S.R peddles fake news, yellow journalism and lies like no other, the same lies he will download to us when he gets the mandate. There's nothing outstanding in his bio apart from being an activist, which is not that impressive because we all know how selfish these so called activists can get, "Oshiomole a typical case example and many others. He has no political experience, no work experience or ethics on record of his proficiency in public or private sector. Pls he shouldn't plunder his resources going for the highest post in the land, start from your state first, make an impact in your constituency to garner the experience. he who can't be trusted with little can't be trusted with much. Even the so much idolised Macron spent several years in the civil service. 1 Like |
