Ok. Without waste of time, I'll explain why I'm creating this thread.

4 years back, I heard about HTML and tried to learn it, unfortunately, I didn't. Reason being that I was distracted. I mean, there was so much exciting info than I could handle and I just kept trying to learn everything I came across (I HAD NO DIRECTION)!

Later on, I would try to learn Java, leave it, jump to Java for Android, leave it, go back to Html and once more, leave it again!

Today I've started python and I don't see my self jumping again, I'm more informed. I know there are several people out here looking to learn a programming language but can't because of information overload, usually experienced after googling "WHAT'S THE BEST PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE TO START WITH? "

Like ai said earlier, after several years of hopping around, I'm more informed and can save you the time ai wasted by answering all your questions here.

For peole who find it easier to grow as a team, you have that team here. If you feel you'd like to learn python programming, we can fix a date we'll all start, stay commited by making rules, and keeping to them as a community.

I'll be waiting for you guys to say the "Go" word! And please, don't forget, in the land where there is no job, skill makes you stand out! Besides Programming is the language of the future... *I'm no longer sure about Mandarin!

See just stick to one and learn and make sure it's a book that will teach you along side doing projects so you get excited. Look what you see in one in terms of concepts is what you will see in another book so stick to one and learn it.
I suggests you go for the murach books on Python or whatever language you want. They are very good with real world applications.google them

Learning on your own is the best here though you may need some mentorship. I recommend bthose books because they take a professional approach and you will actually get productive within a few chapters of the book.trust me try to make it your first book on and you won't regret it.thats my advice but you are free to do what you want.

Hmmm... I knew what I wanted. I was sure it was python, and I resolved I was going to learn with online when like code academy and coursera.

I was very serious, infact, I completed a whole introductory course on python and guess what, I became more confused and frustrated.

This was because, I actually knew the syntax, understood loops, variables, concatenation, white spaces, and all the topics I studied but I didn't know what to do with them... I'm sure a lot of people must have experienced this too...

The problem with learning programming alone is, you're almost never sure of yourself, what to do... ypu don't know what to do with what you know... you imagine the basic things around you like games, apps that are based on the programming language you studied and you figure out that you can't even attempt it.

What I discovered lately that has helped me and given me some assurance is: I get to know what I'm learning, what is can be used for, how it can be used, when it can be used, and why it should be used if need be.

Courses on coursera and code academy didn't teach me programming like this.

One material that will be of immense help to you, showing you the how, when, what and where... is UDACITY. Though most of the courses are paid for... "Introduction to Python programming" is free... The guy lecturing is good... and by the time you'd be done with it.... you'd be acquainted and inspired enough to continue with whatever materials you find.

I will explain things in detail as we proceed.... Just keep the questions coming...

Meanwhile, for those who are willing to learn Python programming, when we're up to like 5, we'll all begin together and push ourselves... *I've covered some lessons already, but I will start all over to guide those who need help setting up the necessary environments.

Lol... I feel you, and I'm sure a lot of other fellas here can relate to what you've just said. It's quite easy to gather all the materials, (within the 4 years I've tried to learn programming, I think I've created a personal library - I have Java tutorials, Java for Android, Html, Css, I have sublime, Atom, Visual studio code... lol.. you can't imagine.)

What I'm saying is, not everyone can muster the discipline to stay focused, eating through the gathered materials.... People like this need a team!

...and that's the major reason why I created this tread. To help people learn by making them work together.

I understand the "I know all the programming concepts but cant do jack with it". The key to programming from my little experience is knowing how to connect the concepts with real life everyday scenarios.this is whybi recommend books that do real life projects as you read along so you see what that concept is relating to in real life.for example there is what we call interface is Java c# and what an interface simply does for us is let us treat an object that implements that interface in terms of what it can do and not what or who the object is.we don't care who it is just what it can do.how does this relate to real life scenario? Boom it turns out we have been using interfaces all our lives. When you see your math lecturer he has a name a family where he comes from but that is who he is all I know is that when he walks into the class I see him as a lecturer (what he can do.he implements the ilecturer interface) so I expect him to be able to lecture me on math.i dont care about who he is Mr so so so.
You see when you can connect concepts like this it becomes easier to write programms.
Just get a book that will force you to code as you read.
I may not expect you to understand the interface I just explained but hope you get my point.its about connecting it to real life scenarios.

Yes it all boils down to the materials we use in learning, it has to do with who is passing that knowledge to you either by blog post, article, video, recording, seminar, conference etc. I don't know if we ''ve really ask ourselves this question are they really effective when it comes to passing knowledge to learners. Do they make the topic interesting or just to drive traffic to their website or YouTube channel or make people pay tutor fee to them just to earn a living because many of these guys could not make impact with what they were taught rather to teach and earn money too the cycle continues.
