This is political propaganda that has been employed for years to deceive the gullible minds since the 80s in Nigeria. There's no doubt that people will always develop new technologies and great strategies in times of war and uncertainty because they are forced to do so. Nonetheless, majority of the technologies and weaponry used in the Nigerian civil war was imported by both sides because it happened several years after the second world war; when the world had a significantly different outlook if anyone developed significant amount of the technology used in the Nigerian civil war, then nothing is stopping them from developing new ones now. 2 Likes |

neyobills:There is nothing in the war museum in aba that speaks of French technology. So where are you getting your story from? You and the idiot are even disagreeing with yourselves. If France supported biafra, it was nothing beyond mere "watch and see" posture, unlike other world powers that actively supported Nigeria. They couldn't even stop Cameroon from closing their border to aid. Is that what you call French support? You claim that France is different from Russia, then how come are you also claiming that france supported biafra since they don't have the same policy as Russia?. Do you even know the meaning of support.? Do you make sense to you? 4 Likes 1 Share |

CSTR1005: Like I said earlier I watched a documentary and they were French mercenaries on ground during the Biafra war,I have never been to the Aba museum nor do I care to but from the pictures online, most of the gear was definitely imported except u have proof that all the gear was manufactured by indigenous Biafrans during the war. Here is a picture of Rolf Steiner and he was the commander of the Biafra elite troops and guess what he is a French-Biafran,this is just one of the many proofs to enlighten ignorant minds like you. 3 Likes

CSTR1005: In 1967, while living in Paris, he made contact with former colleague Roger Faulques, who was organizing a mercenary unit for the newly independent Republic of Biafra. Steiner flew to Port Harcourt via Lisbon, Portugal and enlisted into the Biafran army as a company commander. Steiner had success in the field, and was given the responsibility of organizing the 4th Biafran Commando Brigade as a lieutenant colonel. The first three brigades actually didn't exist; the army created this bit of disinformation to confuse the Nigerian Federal forces. Steiner used a skull and crossbones as his regimental symbol, which he thought would constantly remind his troops of the risks inherent to war, rather than any reference to the pirates' Jolly Roger or the Nazi SS. Steiner found the Biafrans to be quick learners and highly motivated. On May 25, 1968, they led a successful mission against a Federal Nigerian air field in Enugu, destroying six Russian-made bomber and fighter aircraft. Steiner, far from being a mercenary, fought for the Biafrans without pay, serving long after most other European soldiers of fortune had left the cause. Steiner's guerilla warfare skills served the Biafran cause far better than the conventional warfare training most of the other commanders had received at Sandhurst. Unfortunately, following several confrontations with his Biafran colleagues, Steiner resigned from service, was then arrested, and expelled from the country in handcuffs.[1] According to Frederick Forsyth this happened at the stipulation of Forsyth himself, as Forsyth had found out that Steiner was spreading rumours that Forsyth was an agent of MI6 - which was the truth [1] 3 Likes

neyobills:You keep running around in circles confusing yourself. The Igbo have never argued that all the fought with during the war they manufactured. They have never denied external help. It's obvious there were some level of assistance from France before the blockade but what you can't deny is that they out of necessity produce locally to supplement the little coming from outside. It's unfortunate you have never been to the Museum or Ojukwu Bunker in umuahia and have no desire to. That's the problem with most Nigerians. They think the world start and end with the little coccon they build around themselves. Go to Umuahia and see for yourself the great innovations of Biafra. Seek knowledge that will dispel your ignorance, it may be expensive but it's worth it. 10 Likes |

neyobills:Your post doesn't really make sense, from your post he never claim to assist Biafra to manufacture weapons. The Engineering Feat of Defunct Biafran Research and Production Group (RAP) The Red devil and Genocide Armoured tanks, and the Ogbunigwe bombs are some of the greatest indigenous military engineering that has come out from Nigeria and the Biafran Research and Production group (RAP) is the greatest indigenous research, development and production organisation ever established in Nigeria. They Red devil, Genocide, and Ogbunigwe are war weapons that were locally fabricated by RAP of the then Biafran Republic during the Nigerian civil war also known as the Biafran war (July 6, 1967 – January 15, 1970), a war the Nigerian government fought against Biafra to counter Biafra’s secession from the Republic of Nigeria. Biafran Research and Production group (RAP) Biafran army started the war with just reconditioned Mauser bolt-action rifle, supported by small quantities of machine-pistols, sub-machine guns, light and heavy machine guns, and pistols. Mortar barrels and bombs, artillery pieces and shells. The duty of making weapons and other machines needed to win the war was assigned to RAP. The RAP group led by the renowned Professor Gordian Ezekwe was comprised of men and women with scientific and technological background, formal and informal, who invested their devotion and patriotism to conduct research and fabricate essential material for the prosecution of the war. They were saddled with the task of technological innovation, copy technological creativity and improvisation under extreme privation. The members of the RAP were teachers from the Universities, Colleges of Technology and Secondary Schools; research scientists from research and technical establishments; scientists, technologists, and craftsmen from various public services, such as Railways, Ports Authority, Electricity Corporation, Petroleum Refinery and Geological Surveys; engineers and technicians from the private sector such as Shell BP, United Africa Company (UAC) etc; and ordinary artisans, craftsmen and mechanics. In the beginning of the war members of the RAP group operated as two distinct independent groups – the Enugu Group and the Port Harcourt group. The Enugu group was dominated by university scientist from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and the Port Harcourt Group was led by engineers and technicians from Shell-BP and other industrial establishments around Port Harcourt. The group came together when Enugu fell to the Nigerian army. The Biafran Red Devil Amoured Vehicles RAP fabricated armoured vehicles nicknamed the Biafran Red Devil and Genocide from agricultural tractors, bulldozers and harvesters. The Red Devil were fabricated to suit operational difficulties – types A1-A5, B, C, and D, but the armoured vehicles could not endure the heavy stresses and strains needed for a challenging military operation demanded in warfare. According to Professor Kalu Uka of the University of Uyo in an interview, they lacked speed and suffered frequently from overheating. 4 Likes

Yet one idiot on nairaland believe France somehow helped biafra and even when there was virtually no sophisticated air support in biafrsa to suggest the input of a super power" Are u Bi-polar or u just want to keep shifting the goal post to whatever rocks your boat,u just said there was no input of any super power because there was no air support and I rightly put it across to u that they was actually input from France and now with facts staring at you in the face u decide to eat your rants that there was some help after all,I'm sure if u were at the war front then u wouldnt have called whatever support u get some with sharpnel flying all over u. It doesn't look like u are a very stable person anyway and there is absolutely nothing in Umuahia that irks my fancy to take a trip there as I have vacation goals of way better places to spend my valuable time at. My grouse with folks like u is that u never seek knowledge and when u even get lucky to have some with facts staring at u right in the face u would rather bury ur head in the sand and continue with your ignorant illusions. Fact is Biafra got external help from France with military hardware and boots on ground but met their waterloo in the hands Nigerian forces. Kiss the truth. 3 Likes |

And same region they fought destroyed their land and properties are now the least in poverty in Nigeria, leading in commerce, industrious, innovative, and education and those areas that didn't experience war are today dying in penury and backwardness. 6 Likes |

Fact is that Igbos on their own created a lot of thibgs to assist themselves during the war because most things were in short supply and after the blockade, Things got even tighter for them. Igbos are still building a lot of thingson their own today come to camp in enugu, go to Obosi in Anambra and visit Aba, u will witness the ingenuity of the igbos first hand. 6 Likes 1 Share |
