Chelsea beat pre-season opponents, Perth Glory 1-0 in their encounter at the Optus Stadium on Monday afternoon, with two Nigerian starlets seeing game time in the win. In a game which saw new manager, Maurizio Sarri name two 17-year-olds (Ethan Ampadu and Callum Hudson-Odoi) in his team's starting XI alongside England international of Nigerian descent, Ross Barkley, Chelsea's Nigerian trio of Tammy Abraham, Ola Aina and Fikayo Tomori were named among the substitutes. Abraham replaced álvaro Morata after 61 minutes and went close to adding to the scoreline three minutes later, connecting with Mario Päsalíc only to see his effort go wide. Ola Aina also came on for the starting right-back, Davide Zappacosta, in the 73rd minute and helped see out the encounter in which The Blues had plenty of chances to add to their tally. Hudson-Odoi teed up Pedro with a delightful assist for the only goal of the game with less than five minutes played in the first period. Super Eagles duo of Victor Moses and Kenneth Omeruo who both participated at the World Cup this summer have resumed training with the club at their Cobham Training Base though they were not cleared in time to join their teammates in Perth. They will hope to be part of the club's next pre-season games which includes meetings with Inter Milan, Arsenal and Olympique Lyonnais, the first of which comes up in Allianz Riviera, Nice on Saturday. Fellow Eaglelians.. following our exploit at the world cup it was clear that the left back role is one of d weakest link in the team due to the lack of left footed left backs in the team (bar Echijele). Now that a lot of us are rooting for Rohr to make the team stronger ahead of the AFCON qualifier, it won't be wise to continue using non left footers like Aina,Ebuehi and Idowu in the role.. Pa Echijele is a no go too... Any suggestion as to who should take the role ?? in fact any suggestion on how our full back setting should be?? Belgium top division side Gent have secured the services of 20 year old Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi on a season long loan deal from English Premier League side Liverpool. Awoniyi recently signed a new long term contract at Liverpool and the move to Gent is seen as the next step in his career with Liverpool keen on him playing more games to aid his development. A deal to Gent has been on for a while but Liverpool were focused on tying him down to a long term deal before agreeing for him to go out on loan with Monaco, Standard Liege, Anderlecht and Club Brugge all sounding him out. His goal tally of eleven goals for modest side Mouscron made top club to push for his loan signing but Gent have now secured him as first reported by Owngoalnigeria.com two months ago before his contract extension. 1 Like |

Former Abia Warriors striker Chisom Chikatara will in the coming days leave Moroccan outfit Wydad Casablanca after agreeing to mutual terminate his contract with the club, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively report. Chikatara has failed to settle down in Morocco since joining the team in 2016 after starring for Nigeria at the African Nations Championship in Rwanda even though Nigeria crashed out in the group stage. The 23 year old has struggled to get sufficient game time with the CAF Champions League winners although he played six times in their run to lifting the competition with a goal to his name as well. His game tally of just 12 league appearances with a a goal led to talks of a possible departure from the club and an agreement has been reached for his contract to be terminated on mutual ground. The contract termination will take place later this week and he will join French second division side Chateauroux, who were 9th in the French second division last season, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal. |

tbaba1234: Posing for a photo op with a despotic leader like Erdogan was ill adviced. Do you know Erdogan have had sports stars who have bravely spoken out against Turkish rule have faced ramifications with their families. Turkish basketball player Enes Kanter said Erdogan is ‘the Hitler of our times.’ Turkey lobbied America to extradite him to face a 4-year prison sentence. Not only that, they also targeted his dad with an arrest warrant. Hakan Sukur is a man in exile in California in a slightly darker story where he was aligned to Gulenists who were blamed for a coup against Erdogan. When he didn’t renounce his allegiance, he was banished and his father imprisoned. Maybe Mesut felt he had to take the picture, only he will know that. I guess you make the decision which side of history you want to stand on. He’s made his from a position of influence as a German immigrant (Merkel is his leader), other stars with a more direct link to the country made theirs and paid the price, but will live with the knowledge they stood up for their country. Also worth noting you can respect your ancestry without standing with a vicious tyrant. 2 Likes |
