Jokerman:it's not the professionals that ran out that made the country rotten. it's the country getting rotten that made the professionals run away. so u don't tell them to stay so that the country will get better. u fix the country and then they will stay. that's simple logic. 1 Like |

Diiet: Lol, why are they no killing all these doctors and professionals if they hate us for nothing,? Why always the " hustler"? . Shine your eyes and be wise. These doctors aren't stupid or clouded by silly emotions, they know what's really happening on the ground and want no part of it. If they did what you say they must do , who will lose . You do know that South Africa attracts doctors from all over Africa, Europe and America and they have thousands of their own. They will simple deport the nigerian ones and recruit from serious nations . 6 Likes |

Jokerman:Those in UK and USA also not patriotic? Think or try to analyze the cause of exodus of Nigerian professionals abroad before labelling them unpatriotic? The poor working conditions and tribal sentiments in labour market included. The government knows what to do. |

There is a simple solution. DO not issue certificates untl 8 years after graduation or they can pay 20 million for the cost of their training |

sartorius:Guy if you do not have a brain do not quote me rudely . I have zero tolerance for wiseguys so keep your wisecracks to yourself. In the UK and the US for example hardly anyone graduates from medical without debt usually in excess of $60000. The government is well within its rights to charge university students the real cost of their education without subsidy. Those who can pay are free to graduate and go those who cannot will have to "work off " the debt on terms that are explicit before they matriculate. It is fair to say we retain your certificate until you have paid your debt. If you owe a university they are within their rights to withhold your certificate There is nothing medieval about that . It is business. I know for a fact that doctors trained in the 70s 80s and 90s did not pay one kobo as fees and after graduation many have left the country . That is not sustainable. Now in England university education is no longer free so there is nothing new or unprecedented. There are student loans in every country. The method of recovery varies from place to place but if you are trained as a doctor for free in Nigeria and you want to leave then you should pay for the real cost of your education 1 Like |

Re: Over 5,000 Nigerian Doctors In S/africa - Envoy by aribisala0(m): 9:45am On Jul 24, 2018 |
Jokerman:I do no think their movement should be curtailed but there should be something like a student statement of account so every student knows the "cost price " of their university education each year and the amount they have contributed. That should form a social contract between the student and university with repayment terms made explicit from day one. No one wants to put a price on it but is their a university subsidy in federal universitiies? And how much is it for different courses per student. Everyone should get an annual statement even if they do not have to pay upfront so people can discard the idea that government does nothing for me. After graduation the total "debt" is computed and terms agreed. If we have bilateral agreements with some destination countries for these doctors then they can agree to have deductions from ther salaries till their debt is paid. Many Nigerian doctors are even advantaged compared to the doctors in countries like the US. A Nigerian doctor arrives with no debt and starts earning while his US counterpart may have a debt of $100000 which would take them 10 years to pay. They have a robust structure for recovering loans from the salaries of their own students so this can be sorted with a bilateral agreement and those wishing to go to signatory countries can go as long as Nigerian universities get paid |

That tells you how bad things are for in This country. Entry level doctors salary in Kenya rivals the top earning doctors in Nigeria. So tell me why I won't Go and drive taxi I'm Canada with my doctor certificate. When the renumeration is almost the same thing with consultants pay here. |
