YoungTesla:
Went for my interview on July 19, 2019 was placed on AP, Visa was issued the next day on the 20th.

Was interviewed by the Elderly white VO, I have only wished to be interviewed by a VO with a calm and friendly demeanor fortunately I got one, I can’t deal with having a conversation with someone with an off-putting countenance, I won’t function properly.

This VO allowed me talk extensively and I was fully prepared to give the speech of my life , for my mind
Oh.

VO: Good morning
Me: Good morning Sir (smiled to create a good impression)

VO: I see your are going to Texas A&M University in Kingsville
Me:yes

VO: why?
Me: To pursue a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering

VO: Do you have a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering?
Me: Yes, I have a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics Engineering

VO: In what year?
Me: December , 2014.

Vo:How did you hear about this school?
Me: I’m an avid reader of the journals, articles and conference papers published on the the IEEE xplore website with a bias towards renewable energy, smart grids, internet of things and micro AC/DC Grids as it aligns with my area of research Interest, Fortunately I stumbled upon a conference paper that won the best paper at the IEEE electro-info conference in Nebraska in the March of 2017 ,by a certain faculty member in the Electrical and Computer Science department of TAMUK, Dr. Kim, I sent him a mail and he required me to send my Resume and Statement of purpose and subsequently encouraged me to apply to TAMUK because in-fact there is an ongoing research in Sustainable renewable energy and distributed generation at the department ...... VO cuts in

VO: You served with the Nigeria Army, What have you been doing after your NYSC?
Me: After my Youth Service I got a job with **** Power Plc, in July 2016 as a Trainee Engineer, and after a year I was confirmed as a member of Staff.

Vo: what are your duties?
Me: Maintenance of generators, Circuit Breakers, Relays , Electric Motors and other Electrical Equipment Critical to Electricity Generation process, Inspect Electrical installations and observe if its operation are in conformity with safety standards.........VO interrupted

Vo: how many schools did you apply to?
Me: 5

VO: Mention them
Me: University of Florida in Gainesville, Michigan Tech University in Houghton, Northern Illinois University in Delkab, University of New Haven in Connecticut and Texas A&M University In Kingsville..... I was rejected by UFL.

VO: So why did you pick TAMUK over MTU and UNH?
Me: First, I was quite fascinated with the work of Dr Kim as I said earlier, second ,due to the ongoing research in the department in Renewable Energy which is one of the few solutions we have to the Energy crises in Nigeria, third, I was offered the New Grad Student scholarship which provided a 33.2% mark down on the initial cost of attendance, and $1000 to cover for few textbooks, and lastly, South Texas has one of the warmest weathers in the US, the data I got from the website usclimatedata.com with regard to Kingsville is quite close to what’s obtainable in Nigeria, this will enable me to acclimatize quickly with the new environment and face my studies squarely.

VO: Did you write any test?
Me: Yes, I wrote the GRE and TOEFL

VO: What are your score?
ME: I had 160 in the quant section and 151 in the Verbal section , and i had 101 in TOEFL.

VO: What will you do with this degree? ( he immediately looked at me, me sef kuku stared into his soul, i didn’t even flinch)
Me: This degree will enable me seek better remuneration from my current Employer and equip me with the right skill Sets to start my own enterprise as a Renewable Energy Specialist on the long term.
I always tell my colleagues that Power Engineering business is the most lucrative business in Nigeria even more than any country in the world because of our demography, we have a power deficit of about 75 million and we are only able to generate about a meagre 4000MW, though we have the capacity to generate 12,000MW,( VO tries to cut me short, but I raised my voice and spoke very fast) about 20 million households are not connected to the National grid, so there is a huge target market and plethora of Opportunities.

(VO tries to Cut in but I continued,I no gree smiley u must hear this oh) as a matter of fact your country is aware of these opportunities, there is a grant from USAID through the Power Africa program for entrepreneurs who are interested in Renewable Energy, to the tune of $100,000, so the opportunities are enormous back home. And this is my motivation behind getting this degree... VO cuts in

VO: Who’s paying?
Me: My Uncle

VO: why is he paying?
Me: He’s been responsible for my education in one way or the other, Initially when I told him about my plans to study abroad he told me to come up with a proposal to see if getting this degree is worth the money, I guess he saw how viable my plans are on the long run.

VO: What does he do?
ME: He is a Senior Facilities Manager at ***** Company, one of the biggest Oil coy in the world.

VO: can I see his statements?
Me: (I handed it over to him and while he was checking it I added )
It’s a domiciliary account and the funds there are specifically earmarked for the purpose of my studies to forestall any issues with Foreign Exchange fluctuations.

He picked a white paper from the top shelf, i didn’t even know it’s the famous white Paper, Cos at that point I was prepared to receive any paper either white or blue, Cos getting the blue paper seem like the norm on that particular day.
He ticked administrative processing and told me if the Statements are not genuine I will be banned from the USA for at least 10 years.........My status changed the next day on the 20th.

Special thanks to Walspring for helping me with my TOEFL payment , mackynaija for helping me with my I-20 and inspiring me with his thread, and finally to all the contributors on this invaluable thread, as at August 2017 I know nada about the F1 Visa application processes, this thread saved me thousands of Bucks that could have easily gone to those atrocious Visa Agents. Thanks Y’all.

Congratulations. Go and excel!

My F1 Visa Transcript @ Lagos US Embassy
The Interview proper went thus:
(I took a little while before I approached him and He was smiling to me here cause of the drama I saw between him and an applicant who he just denied visa, and how the guy refused to go and insisted that the VO should tell him what to do or school to choose or even course to apply for)

VO: Good Morning, how are you?
Me: I am fine Sir thank you, Good Morning and how is work going?
VO: Very fine. Pass me your documents
Me: I passed him the document very slowly
VO: Which school are you going to?
Me: Loyola University Chicago
VO: What Course?
ME: MSc Bioinformatics
VO: How many schools did you apply to?
ME: 4 Schools in all. And they are Loyola University Chicago, University of Memphis, Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis, and Virginia Commonwealth University at Richmond
VO: How many admitted you?
ME: All 4 schools admitted me.
VO: So why did you choose Loyola
ME: Well, I chose Loyola mainly because of the perfect research fit i have with my supervisor whose work on prediciting gene regulation across diverse population is a specialised extension of my bsc project. Secondly i got full scholarship that covers all my expensis; that is, full tuition scholarship, full health and dental insurance coverage and a very generous stipend.
VO: Tell Me about your BSc Project?
ME: I worked on targetting the 16srRNA, dupA, and ureA genes in H.pylori, and by extension to develop a method that could be used for diagnosis of H.pylori and ulceration in paediatric population ( He Seemed Impressed here with a smile and cut me short)
VO: What year did you graduate?
ME: 2015, from the University of Lagos. I studied Cell Biology and Genetics
VO: I know you did NYSC? What year did you finish the NYSC? And what have you been doing since then?
ME: Yes in 2016. I served in a Village secondary school where i taught chemistry and physics to ss1 to ss3 students. However, after service i stayed back to see my ss3 students through to their waec and neco, and the principal and the village community were very supportive of me. After that, I came back to Lagos and took a Job with a pharmaceutical company as a medical sales rep. However i resigned few months later to ready my applications for my msc academic pursuit, I also continued private tutoring for students.. (Then He cut me short)
VO: Did you write any test?
ME: Yes, I wrote GRE and TOEFL
VO: What are your scores?
ME: Well i wrote GRE twice actually and I got 304 and 306. On TOEFL i got 103. (He Looked very impressed here too, and kept giving me glimmer of smiles)
VO: How much is your stipend? ( He asked is it 1500$ per month?)
ME: No, it's 2000$ per month ( He smiled again, I was also smiling too)
VO: So what will you be doing to receive this stipend?
ME: I will be working as a research assistant for my supervisor. So i will be assisting in carrying out genome sequencing and analysis, and also tutoring undergraduates in the Lab.
VO: Have you travelled out of Nigeria before?
ME: Yes, I have been to University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus for a Summer School on a Commonwealth scholarship. The scholarship was awarded to me because of the essay I wrote on the prospects of transgenic technology in solving world food crisis. (He kept flashing smiles and looking impressed)
VO: So what will you do after your studies?
ME: I will return back to Nigeria to take up lecturing and research position in my school. My department has plan underway to create a bioinformatics unit that will be charged with genomic data analysis, I will also be working and consulting with several research institutes in Nigeria (He cut me short again)
VO: So you do not want to go for PhD after your MSc?
ME: Well, because of the changing nature of the field of bioinformatics as it is relatively new, research questions will also be diverse in the years to come. So i will like to work in order to determine that research question I want to answer before considering PhD.
VO: So you are saying if Loyola gives you fully funded PhD that you will not take it? (He was smiling at me here)
ME: I will like to return back to Nigeria (He cut me short and laughed at me plus smiles)
VO: well it is not bad for you to go on to PhD.
ME: Yeaaaaaaa (Me Smiling too)
VO: Your Visa has been approved. (He cirled the Muri Okunola address for my pick up, Then I smiled and brought my ear closer to hear all he was explaining. And he also had this excited expression on his face as he was instructing me about my I-20)
VO: Remember to have your I-20 on you when you are travelling or else they will send you back at the POE (I laughed here, and he smiled too and advised that I should travel before class starts on 27th August)
ME: Thank you and do have a great day.

Very special thanks to Walspring009 for also assisting in paying my sevis fees.
Thank you very much ProfOjah1234 for all the Ginger and help. And bobority I appreciate.
And Much thanks to Learner007 for the numerous mock interviews you had with me. Boss I appreciate greatly.

I like this part. You can't be forced but the VO knows you may likely consider that option later. Also you were smart with your response.

Vo...what will this degree for for u?
(Mehn i was confuse because i wasn't expecting such question that early, then I form asif I no hear her & I ask her to repeat, which she did)
Me....I then , told her the degree in Civil engineering will enable me attain a position of a project engineer in my current place of work when I return to Nigeria and secondly as I wish to establish my own construction firm in future , the degree will help me stand competitively in the Nigerian construction sector where I will contribute to the economic development of Nigeria, by being an employer of labour & also impact positively in ameliorating the incessant number of building collapse in Nigeria.

Was interviewed by a white guy, can't recall his window number, I was the second person he interviewed, the first was approved, she was representing her coy for a music stuff.

Me: Good morning
Vo: Pass me your documents

Me: Good morning and I passed them.
Vo: Good morning and how are you.

Me: Fine

Vo: Where are you going to?
Me: Texas A&M University

Vo: Tell me about your Educational Background.

Me: I studied Environmental Technology at the Federal University of Technology.

Vo: I see, you graduated in 2012, what have you been doing since then.

Me: Currently, I am working with ***** as the Environment, Occupational Health, and Safety Officer.

Vo: What do you plan to do after studies.

Me: I am coming back to my present employers

Vo: Are you on study leave?

Me: Not at the moment, the process would be finalized on the approval of my visa and I have a 'no objection letter' from them here (I tried making a move to bring it out).

Vo: Don't worry keep your documents

Vo: Did you apply to just this school?

Me: No, I applied to Eastern Illinois Uni, University of San Francisco, and Tamuk

Vo: What is the similarity between these schools?

Me: The three schools posses great pro-environmental initiatives; EIU possess a biomass research center which generates power for the whole school while Tamuk has an institute of sustainable energy and the environment... Kind of cuts me off

Vo: why Tamuk-

Me: Sincerely sir, ( I didn't believe I had to say this), it is because of the Institute of sustainable energy and the environment which is dedicated to research and innovation in the field of Air Quality, sustainable energy, water resources, and Environmental Sustainability. Sir, you can agree with me that these are the current environment all challenges we face in Nigeria and even in the world at large, Tamuk has a Javelina sustainability community (didn't even explain the significance) and I was also offered an out-of-state tuition waiver... I forgot to mention the relevance of some of the courses on the curriculum to the current global environmental challenges.

Vo: Did you do any tests?

Me: Yes sir... I did the GRE (306) and TOEFL (102).

Vo: are you with your score sheet? let me see it.

Me: presented both GRE and TOEFL, he looked at the GRE alone.

Who would be paying: I got an out of state tuition waiver and my mum would ... cuts me off

VO: yeah... Your out of state is just 1/3rd, who would pay the rest?

Me: my mum

Vo: What does she do?

Me: she's the school administrator of ****** and she's into real estate (it is an estate account).

Vo: Is she the owner of the school?

Me: No, she is in charge of running it ( I forgot to mention the organisation that owns it)

Vo: Do you have her account statement?

Me Yes, here it is.

Vo: Who is Dr. *****

Me: My late dad, my mum currently runs the account.

Vo: you would be picking your visa at the circled location.

Me: thank you, sir.

I thank God for success...

My F1 Visa Transcript @ Lagos US Embassy
The Interview proper went thus:
(I took a little while before I approached him and He was smiling to me here cause of the drama I saw between him and an applicant who he just denied visa, and how the guy refused to go and insisted that the VO should tell him what to do or school to choose or even course to apply for)

.

Congrats. You really killed it! If you'd said you'll go for PhD I think the VO will still approve your visa. And he really drilled you. Ya smart though!

My brother na same same.
Guess they are doing further checks. This one pass statement of account verification. I believe I will get the visa before my program start date. I will just have to reschedule my flight. God knows best.
