The 2018/2019 season is almost upon us. And while the wait and whet our appetites for the round-leather game with the pre-season activities being served up by teams preparing for another go at a seemingly yet another ardous season, let us ponder on some of the best talents our country have to offer, lest we forget the African Cup of Nations qualifiers will return as well.

Manager Gernot Rohr will be desperate to deliver a satisfactory performance in the tournament in 2019, having lost 2-0 to their preliminary group opponents, South Africa, a win against next rivals, Seychelles come September is, by no measure of doubt, nonnegotiable.

Below are some of the starlets the 65-year-old must consider, judging by their recent efficiency, before naming his team to execute those crucial qualifiers..

1) Fred Friday: Friday is gradually showing why he was once hailed to be one who blossoms to lead Nigeria's Dream Team VI few years ago.

Things had taken time to get going for him but this period has seen him net six goals in seven pre-season games for AZ Alkmaar. If Rohr will be in desperate need of a proven goal-getter, he might have to turn to the 23-year-old.

2) Ola Aina: This competition could still provide another opportunity for the Chelsea defender to eventually fulfill his promise. Missed out on this summer's World Cup by inches but having forced himself into the Super Eagles team, the 21-year-old has long been touted to make his breakthrough with The Blues and this could be the season faithfuls get to see that happen.

3) Eberechi Eze: Eze is another one who, surely, should be getting a look in. That he is one of the best talents Championship club, Queen Park Rangers has to offer is not in doubt and was exemplified when he was nominated for their Young Player of the Year award at the end of last season.

He's not done badly for himself this time around, having chipped in with two goals already in pre-season games. Throw in the fact that he has already trained with the national team in the past and it makes it all the more easier.

4) Kelechi Nwakali: It is only a matter of time when Nwakali gets to take up the reigns of the Super Eagles midfield — an enthronement which the Arsenal starlet is very capable of handling.

His recent temporary switch to Portuguese side, FC Porto will guarantee the needed game time and preparation for what he is to face.

5) Taiwo Awoniyi: Liverpool know they have a gem in Awoniyi and have decided to grant him another loan spell with KAA Gent after another sensational season with Royal Excel Mouscron where he netted ten goals (seven assists) in 31 games across all competitions for the club.

The same thing used to happen during my time as well. But the difference is, in those days, the coaches are still smart enough to play their best team. They don't mind add two or three dead weights in the team, as squad players, but on match day ... as far as I know anyway ... the starting 11 are usually the best team.

Meanwhile, part of the problem is that now every freaking Nigerian has become a football agent of some sort ... hence, the temptation is stronger for these coaches. Not making excuses for corruption but I can feel what they are going through.

tbaba1234:

The gist is that coaches are being paid to play certain players at the expense of others. For instance, the top scorer, Devine Nwachukwu and Omidiji have started from the bench. Their introduction in the first game saved Nigeria's blushes but nothing changed in the second game.

So we are benching better players for those that settled. That is the gist anyway.

Marvin Egho is an Austrian-Nigerian. I heard he is very good. He made Slovakia league team of the season. He could move to a good club next season if he does well this season.

This league is where Simon Moses, Samuel Kalu, Kingsley Madu, Rabiu Ibrahim and now Harry Gong used as stepping stones to better clubs or leagues. Watching out for him.

Good but he has played three international friendlies for Austria..can he still "defect" wiithout FIFA approval?

Omo, the Olympics team is NOT cadet level. At age 23 most soccer players are close to their peak coupled with the fact that each country is allowed 3 overage players as well. To me, any coach who gets a result at the Olympic level has what it takes to make it at the World Cup levels as well. So score one for Siasia, right there grin

O pari

Point still stands. His club performances weren't what got him the SE job. Cadet level performances were good enough to get him to U23 level.
Let's not forget he also flopped at the second attempt during the U20s.

Swedish Allsvenskan side IFK Göteborg have reported via their official website that they have completed the signing of promising Nigerian midfielder Alhassan Yusuf following a successful trial.

The 18-year-old has appended his signature to a two-year deal with the 18-time Swedish champions, with an option for another two years.

''We are very pleased that he has chosen us in competition with several other clubs," says sports director Mats Gren.

''He has been with us for a couple of months and really has shown the capacity and talent that exists.

''He is very good on the ball, we have great hopes for the future of Alhassan.''

A product of Nigerian Academy Tiki Taka Football, Alhassan will play with the number 28 jersey for the remainder of the 2018 season.

He is unlikely to make his competitive debut in Saturday's league match with Brommapojkarna because he is still processing his papers.

Why Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo Will Be Better Served Elsewhere Than Anfield
The life of a footballer is a fickle proposition. Things change so swiftly and leave one with the best or worst, particularly for youngsters in the round-leather game.

One minute, you could have the world at your feet, the next could find you an afterthought.

But for true talent, that is hardly the case. That brings us directly to Liverpool's Nigerian starlet, Sheyi Ojo who is striving to make plausible inroads with the Premier League club as they continue to fine tune in pre-season games for the start of a new season.

If you have keenly watched the trickster play, you will easily be bowled over by his blinding, almost audacious style of football. But bear in mind, he had come a long way.

The then England U-20 boy wonder captivated the English scouts with his irrepressible style of play, leaping and bounding through the turfs of Milton Keynes Dons and by virtue of his hard work, he became the first Dons trainee to receive an international cap at youth level during his time with them.

At 21 now, he has verily come of age and while those inestimable talents of his have not waned a bit, getting regular first team football under his belt is the prerequisite for a prodigious player as he is to continue to blossom. After all, there is really no crime in being young.

Such spells like the one with promoted Fulham last term where he made 22 league outings (18 starts) with a respectable return of four goals and two assists was a career curve ball, a necessary lesson for a blooming potential but as a new season draws nigh, it is time to think again.

It is no hidden secret that he is well thought of by The Reds manager, Jurgen Klopp who has continued to include him in his plans during the course of the ongoing pre-season activities but the fact is that their first team is glaringly spoilt for choice in picking an attacking line at the moment.

While all of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have, by the extent of their solid performances, established themselves as first choices, Daniel Sturridge, Dominic Solanke, Divrock Origi and Danny Ings, seemingly regarded as the team's second pick bunch are well placed above him in the pecking order.

Liverpool has yet gone about investing in their firepower as Xherdan Shaqiri has arrived from Stoke City this transfer window to add up to the number of those jostling for attacking spots upfront — there in precisely lies the nub of the story.

If Ojo decides to evade his possible suitors who are already circling around with the hope of staying and fighting for a place in this team, that is a bold move but in a realist sense, might not seem the best.

Championship clubs, Reading and Middlesbrough have already been talked up in the past few days as possible destinations and these sides which do have brilliant footballing cultures will not look out of place for a young player like he is to continue his development.

He had better go to Wolfsburg.

Watched a tactical clip of how France were able to contain The Croats....

I must say this here and here, Rohr Is a very tactical coach. He is the only coach that got the tactics of the Croats before a big tournament like the WC and use it to counter their tactics.

We were just average a team to turn things around I guess. Cos the French got 4tactical goals, we couldn't despite ruining the tactics of Dalic.

Thumbs up to Rohr for that match....

They couldn't event get goals from open play.

I saw the update in Lateef, and I must say that it's expected.

It's at this kind of times, the coach or manager would be forming "if you respect who I am.... " or those talks of "sacrifice now so that your career can blow" kinda talks....

The starting 11 selected by any indigenous coach Repping the national team at any level is never the Best Team!!!

Some just aligned And got a spot.

Then Indigenous coaches are never good at developing players like Russia's Cheryshev. Someone like Sani "supersub" Emmanuel is rarely seen in any National football setting that has such coaches at the helm.

Siasia is still and always the only standing Exception to this trend.

AFU 2017, Sekondi-Takoradi, Ghana.
Encouraging even earthy ethics’ eventual end, Eagles’ elder (coach) eagerly embraces enticing envelope expertly extended, expressly entangling him to ensure he fields extolled exportable players for entrepreneurial ends.

The head coach of the team that represented Nigeria at the Ghana WAFU 2017 Tournament, Salisu Yusif, took $1000 from Tiger, who was there as an undercover players’ agent, and agreed to use two of his players in the upcoming CHAN 2018 Tournament regardless of their form to make it possible for Tiger’s Players Agency to sell these players, out of which Yusif would receive 15% of their sales. The meeting took place at the Visitor’s Lounge of the Best Western Plus Atlantic Hotel, Sekondi-Takoradi.

Salisu Yusuf (Coach), the head coach of the Nigerian football team at the WAFU 2017 in Ghana, in a meeting with Tiger at the Best Western Plus Atlantic Hotel, Sekondi-Takoradi, accepted to use Osas Okoro of Rangers International and Rabiu Ali, the Kano Pillars’ midfielder, in the then upcoming CHAN 2018 Tournament to take place in Morocco except for injury and sickness regardless of their performance.

Mr Yusuf, with smiles all over his face, took a 1,000 US Dollars at the meeting and accepted an assurance of 15% from the sales of these players should all go as planned. He appreciated the offer with a promise: “Don’t worry, they would be at CHAN”.

The meeting, which was interrupted many times with phone calls by the head coach and exchange of pleasantries from passers by, has the following transcript as bits of the conversation between Tiger, the undercover players’ agent, and the Head Coach of the Super Eagles at WAFU 2017, Salisu Yusuf.

Tiger went straight to the point as usual and made known to Yusuf the agendum for the meeting and his proposal for him after exchanging pleasantries when he – Yusif - arrived for the meeting.

Tiger: Errm, we are monitoring two of your players.

Coach: (slightly bent towards Tiger with his right arm on his lap supporting his upper body and listening intently at what Tiger had to say) Uhh?

Tiger: I say we are looking at two of your players.

Coach: (Still bent over his lap) Okay.

Tiger: Errm, two of your players. Errm, Moses (Osas) Okoro,

Coach: (Assumes the former posture after being interrupted by passers-by) Umm?

Tiger: Moses (Osas) Okoro,
Coach: (Still bent over his lap) Okay. Tiger: The right back and then Rabiu Coach: Rabiu Ali.
Tiger: Ali Rabiu, the number 10. Coach: Okay.

Tiger: Yeah. We are seeing potentials in them and then, we have agencies that are looking at them too. So, we have agencies that are looking at them.

Coach: Okay.

Tiger: Yeah. That are looking at them too. Errm, we know you have qualified for CHAN.

Coach: Ehh (Yes).

Tiger: So, we are just simply out here to see you as the coach and then encourage that you send them to CHAN too, so that we would continue (Coach laughs a bit) to monitor, we would follow you to CHAN. So, that I’ll monitor them (another passer-by interrupts the conversation), so that we’d continue to monitor them. And ten, we can then bring them in,

Coach: Ehh, yeah! (Nods his head to indicate understanding Tiger’s proposal as another passer-by interrupts the conversation, followed by a phone call from his brother in Nigeria and then another passerby). Errm, it’s not that they cannot go to CHAN, but we don’t know what would happen tomorrow. But they are part of the team. They are first-team players, so, here’s nothing that would stop them from going to CHAN, only maybe what we don’t pray for, injury or sickness. So, that’s no problem, eh?

Tiger: Okay. So, we can follow you to CHAN?

Coach: We don’t know where to play CHAN yet. Whether we’d play in Kenya or Morocco.

Tiger: I’m sure it’d be in Kenya, I’m very sure. I’m very certain. From my sources.

Coach: They say Kenya?

Tiger: Yeah!

Coach: So, if you want to be in Kenya, apart from these two factors (another interruptions and exchange of pleasantries).

Tiger: Okay. So, no problem. We know they are good, so far, the games that they have played and we have watched them, we know that they are good. But you are the head coach, you also give them small time, small playing time, in (on) the big stages. (Laughs) Hahaha.

Coach: You see, in football, you have to be, it's supposed to be about, your consistency and form. If you are very consistent, you don’t have a problem (another interruption with a phone call).

Tiger: If you don’t mind, we can exchange contacts.

Coach: Okay. I have two numbers, +2348102991960.

Tiger: (After entering the number) Okay. Yusuf. Coach Yusuf.

Coach: Yeah!

(After struggling a little with the contact umbers, Tiger handed out an amount of $1,000 to Coach)

Tiger: Okay. Now we are going, so we have something for you (hands out a $,1000 to Coach).

Coach: (Laughs after collecting the money) Hahaha. Thank you. Tiger: This is $,1000.

Coach: Okay. Don’t worry, okay. (He exchanges handshakes to seal their deal as they part ways)

Tiger: Ehh! So, if anything goes through (Coach nods his head as he intently listens to Tiger) and those players get the contract, you would get 15% of the contracts.

Coach: (Coach nods his head in agreement to Tiger’s proposal) That’s no problem. Then, they would be in CHAN. (They finally part ways).

Meanwhile, Nigeria reached the final of CHAN, eventually losing 4-nil to hosts Morocco.

Again, I am not trying to defend corruption in any way, shape or form; but when you don't pay someone his/her salary for an upwards of 6 months, how do you expect the individual to survive?

If we are really serious about promoting integrity and/or fighting corruption then we first have to establish the enabling environment. What I am trying to say is that the Nigerian environment helps fester corruption.

I am sure if you are from Delta you would be one of those that welcomed IBORI like a hero who returned from a honourable sojourn.

If Richalison is valued at £70m,

Then

Ndidi>£70m!!!!

Say whatever you want say, na crappy talk I go take am as. Shuuu?!!!!

That wasn't Richalison's real price Everton added the extra to make up for approaching Silva during last season. Watford blamed their bad results on it and even reported Everton to the league. This is to make up for that.

Omo, below is the summary of the whole discussion:

Bottom line, based on the above assertions, the two players went to CHAN on M-E-R-I-T. Short and simple!

This section is the most damaging

Once he collected the money, all defence has been thrown out of the window.

Na British establish prosperous Benin Empire, Oyo Empire, The kingdom of NRI, Kanem - Borno Empire etc?

Bros, these were stable wealthy States established by our people.

It is oyinbo mentality that makes some people believe black man is not fit to rule but na lie.

Change your system of government to that of UK and see how you fair.

Toylove:

Sir, change our system of government with this same people?
Nothing will happen, Nigeria will still remain the Nigeria it remains today
