Now that doctors have taken MLSCN act for amendment, what is the way forward??

Scientists are definitely not sleeping, before amendments there are public hearings and Medical Scientists will be there with facts not lamentations like Mrbigiman and his frustrated likes brings to fore in issues of medical discourse.
In the eyes of Judiciary, we still hold the yam and knife as far as medical laboratory science is concerned.

Misinterpreting court judgments on poor court service procedures by bailiffs as victory for physicians over Scientists won't change facts on ground. I'm sure Mrbigiman knows what I'm talking about. cheesy

It's not right dragging my name in ur group. Apart from our minor arguments, I have made sure I live and let live. If MDCN takes the MLSC Act for amendment, it's not out of place. We are still at the cradle in our medical practice, and laws need to be revisited for the interest of all. The act as we have is simply egoistic. A profession with definite importance, is shifting itself towards a nearly godly status. Physicians being at the the very peak of health delivery need to work to ensure sanity, as intruders definitely seek personal interest before national interest.

I feel you are doing a great job selling ur profession. Well done.

You came in here univited trying albeit unsucessfully to bully nelsx and other Scientists.
I'll do what I have to do to educate the public about my profession after your likes have tried battering and destroying it's image for eons in a bid to polish your sensitive ego when you caught in many cases of malpractice.
Many of your poorly trained likes have used the laboratory and the Scientists as a shield to defend yourself by blaming them when you butcher patients. The Baby Eniola case in LUTH remains a reference point. That inglorious era has ended.

Nigerians who are wiser and intelligent than you sat in Abuja in the national assembly and enacted the MLSCN act in 2003. You guys protested the MLSCN act then, but Nigerians who knew you were just hungry for power and control over other professionals said No! Bill was signed, Act became Law. Case closed, you continued to lament till this day.

You are banking on Sen. Saraki a physician cum politician to help repeal that Act in the spirit of professional esprit de corp. I say goodluck with that. We'll be waiting in the Green and Red chambers.

You need to understand certain ponts sir.

1)This is not secret society forum sir.

2) ANYONE can comment on any topic in this forum and no invitation is needed but this is totally different from mentioning someone's name.

3) Laws, including the constitutions in ALL civilized societies can be and are often amended where necessary.
There is no need being emotional about this or trying to abuse anyone because of this.

Even in Nigeria, Virologists who are not MLS do work in Medical Laboratories in UCH and other hospitals.

Prof Christian Happi, a Professor of Molecular Biology (Not any MLS) carried out the laboratory test at the Virology laboratory, The Redeemer's university that confirmed the first cases of Ebola in Nigeria.

nelszx:

Do you ķbow who clinical scientist are?
They are not fresh school leavers but consultants.
They are like consultant biomedical scientist (those who are specialists in infectious diseases or blood science) that are like a link between the biomedical scientist and the physician. More like the lab manager. They tell you if the patient needs more testing or ascertain if your test results are okay as all results go through them to the requesting physician. Or you didn't know a clinical scientist can be a biomedical scientist?

The UK system is so strict that you can't call yourself a "scientist if you are a graduate of any life science courses cos you'll pay a fine of £5000 for doing so.
In the medical labs in UK what we have are clinical scientists (who are consultants in various aspect of pathology), the specialist biomedical scientist, biomedical scientist, associate practitioners (intern biomedical scientists), and lab assistants. Pathologists aren't even in the labs as they operate special clinics.
The system in the UK is so strict that even if a bsc microbiology does an msc in biomedical science he cant work in the lab or can be called a biomedical scientist let alone a clinical scientist. Since they cant get jobs in hospital labs how then do you expect these set to be working in the lab.

If you know anyone practicing in the UK you can verify my claims to dispute it. Microbiologist, biochemists etc do not near a medical laboratory in the UK. You think the UK is like Nigeria, guy ehn just leave long talk. Make your findings but if you arent pleased, I'd recommend phase1 explain to this to you better.

When you know the difference between a reference/research lab from a Medical lab then we can have a meaning argument. By virtue of degree and license a MLS can work in both without any issue but not the case as regards others so get your facts right.
Their are virologists working in LUTH virology research lab but not in their medical laboratory (except those that doubles as MLS). Same way other researchers have developed kits to detect Zika virus and other viruses which is why they are given grants for their researches.

Be humble, to understand and go far in life. . .You can make your points without insulting people who may even be far more knowledgeable than you.

Medical laboratories either in hospitals or existing independently as Reference or Public Health Laboratories have multi-professional workforce consisting of Doctors, Biochemists, Microbiologists,MLS etc.

Do you read at all?
Don't you know/recognise an insult when you see one? In simplicity of english you still see insult where non existed.....interesting. Far knowledgeable You say grin
I should be telling you the very opposite of what you're telling me.
Like I've said till you get your facts right and not Google searched items then we can deliberate on this.
Do your research well on medical laboratory in the world and come with your fact findings and list other countries where you see biochemist, microbiologists in public health laboratories that are not reference and research labs.
You will keep making same mistake as much as you don't know what's operational in a Medical and a reference/research lab and their personnel.
Just mention 3 countries where this your workforce exist anywhere in a public health lab.

This is the U.S. just read the laboratory workforce

Laboratory diagnosis of Ebola during an outbreak when Patrick Sawyer brought the disease to Nigeria was not a research work.
The Medical laboratory diagnosis was done at the Redeemer's university because they have a Virology laboratory with Biosafety facility to handle the specimen.

Do your research well before rushing online to comment. It's not even a must you comment. Patrick Sawyer sample wasn't sent to any Redeemer university virology lab ....... lies
Now here's the story:

During our early-morning ward round with Dr. Adadevoh, we concluded that this was not malaria and that the patient needed to be screened for Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). She immediately started calling laboratories to find out where the test could be carried out. She was eventually referred to Professor Omilabu of the LUTH Virology Reference Lab in Idi-Araba, whom she called immediately. Prof. Omilabu told her to send blood and urine samples to LUTH straight away. She tried to reach the lagos state commissioner for health but was unable to contact him at the time. She also put calls across to officials of the federal ministry of health and national centre for disease control.

Dr. Adadevoh at this time was in a pensive mood. Patrick Sawyer was now a suspected case of Ebola, perhaps the first in the country. He was quarantined, and strict barrier nursing was applied with all the precautionary measures we could muster. Dr. Adadevoh went online, downloaded information on Ebola and printed copies, which were distributed to the nurses, doctors and ward maids. Blood and urine samples were sent to LUTH that morning. Protective gear, gloves, shoe covers and facemasks were provided for the staff. A wooden barricade was placed at the entrance of the door to keep visitors and unauthorised personnel away from the patient.

On the morning of Wednesday July 23, the tests carried out at LUTH showed a signal for Ebola. Samples were then sent to Dakar, Senegal for a confirmatory test. Dr. Adadevoh went for several meetings with the Lagos state ministry of health. Thereafter, officials from Lagos state came to inspect the hospital and the protective measures we had put in place.

Redeemer University only published her research on EVD kit and didn't carry out Ebola diagnosis for one day. Redeemer University virology lab only developed kits to testing EVD 3 years after the disease had been successfully tackled (May 30, 2017).

hello, I didn't know where to start my own message so I had to use reply. thank you.
I'm a student of medical laboratory science, I just finished 400level and I'm about to enter final year but I'm confused on what major to choose. I like both hematology and medical microbiology and I'm really good at both to. I really don't know which one to choose that will not limit my opportunities and career options and also I also need to choose one that I can easily further abroad.

Also, what if I want to study medicine abroad after school? can my MLS degree get me a direct entry? will my choice of major affect this direct entry?

I'll really appreciate anyone's advice and opinion.
thank you very much.
