Very nice thread TechCapon. I remember it was cctv camera that helped to solve the murder of this beautiful South African girl Mokoena karabo. The cctv video shows him enter the hotel with the girl and driving out with her corpse inside the trunk of his car. He burnt her corpse to ashes. This guy is a devil. Thank God he received 30 years prison sentence.

As stated by someone b4.....Privacy is a key disadvantage but doesnt outweigh its advantages IMO.

You will also need constant power supply...hence extra cost for inverter should be considered too

CCTV is very nice if you can afford it.

Operating cost can be very high for those that have theirs online. I use to burn up to 30gb/month to keep my CCTV online and accessible anywhere in the world, before i ported to Smile Unlimited. Unlimited internet package is the bae....for all your gadgets at home

Are u saying cctv can still work without any source of electricity? If no then what's the essence seance the potential thief can wait till electricity is out before stealing

CCTV installation is a good investment because more often than not it helps identify unsuspecting criminals who do not know where they are located and their coverage area.

However, the biggedt threat to CCTV effectiveness are the users and those who know about its coverage area. These set of people can evade its capture because they know they wont be ever seen in the CCTV recording.

Therefore, the best CCTV would be types that oscillate 360 degree at no particular timing order. Betterstill the CCTV viewing area can be secretly changed without notice sometimes to catch those who are familiar with its coverage.

There are two types of CCTV systems. With one, it is simply used to record everything for further use and only provide the owner with the overview of his property. However, there is another type. It is used in real time. From the control center, a security personnel can see every corner of the property, and dispatch a security team only when and WHERE needed. There is no need to have armed security on every corner. A few men is enough, they are not visible until called upon. When the crime occurs, they are dispatched from the control center. Take for example a large hotel, like Hilton or Sheraton in Abuja. You do not see armed mopol on every corner. But trust me, they do have armed security somewhere, and security cameras everywhere. To test it, do something stupid in any public area and you will see how quickly they will come.

You'll need a DVR/NVR and the power supply unit, which depends on how many camera u intends to install
