Since February 2017, I have been buying engine oil and servicing the car by myself as a driver

Are you talking about your car sir or are you talking about a car you collect on HP?

Or are you talking about a car you collect on weekly rental?

And please don't mind my curiosity - If the car is on weekly rental

1. How much do you deliver weekly?
2. Why is it that you're the one responsible for the engine oil of someone else car?
3. What type of engine oil do you buy to service the car?
4. How frequently do you service the car?
5. What's the responsibility of the car owner? Is just to collect weekly rental. grin

Ayam a jjc, humbled and I seek knowledge sir.

Cheers

It was one of those contracts you go into out of desperation.
Owner said he will handle only engine and gear box repairs while I took care of every other repairs. For 1 year and 3 months, there was no engine issue neither was there any gear box issues.
I remitted 35k/week.
I was in bondage.
Luckily, robbers rescued me from that contract.
I am now on a 30k/week contract with a 2010 corolla. NO ASSURANCE DEPOSIT demanded from the car owner and we are having a wonderful relationship. I even pay him on Sundays at times before taxify and uber settles.

Wow.

Kudos to you.

God would bless the work of your hands and you would harvest your seed.

***************************

But please you need to educate the new and upcoming drivers not to fall into this same trap. To me it's wickedness. How would a driver be responsible for engine oil and car servicing. It's the car owner responsibility to buy his/her engine oil and service his/her car.

I am really happy for you that you finally get out of the contract - bondage - although you stay too long there.

Please enlighten and educate others.

Congratulations on your new ride.

I also pray God bless your work and crown all your efforts with success. His (God) Grace would found and favour you. He would grant all your heart desires and bless you with your own car.

Amen.

Entrepreneurship isn't a crime but that Poo isn't entrepreneurship but pure exploitation of the guy's desperation to start.

You owe your driver a car in a good working condition and that in my little opinion or experience includes engine oil, filters and servicing.

Why in God's name would someone (Car Owner) asked driver on Weekly Rental to be responsible for engine oil. The car belongs to you as a car owner and it's your responsibility to ensure it is in a good working condition because at the end of the day the car is still your property not the driver's property.

So Entrepreneurship and Pure Exploitation aren't the same thing.

Why would a car owner on weekly rental be only responsible for engine and gearbox repair. This is pure greediness. Some drivers would have intentionally knock the car engine.

Yet, the guy claimed he delivered every week for over a year and he his responsible for the maintenance and repairs of someone's property.

If the car is on Hire Purchase, yes I understand. The car would eventually becomes the driver's property after the agreed payment period but for heaven sake he his on weekly rental and shouldn't have ever be made to take car owner's responsibilities on the car.

as regards the emboldened, if u often pay up 30k remittance 2-3days b4 the due day. Then, 35k a week wasn't bondage in any way for u strictly on the issue of disbursement.
Statements like this are real suicidal, it can give the car owner 2nd tots on d weekly remittance. If u knw, you know.

Baba the issued wasn't about his weekly rental payment.

He didn't claim he has unable to deliver.

Car Owners differs and everything about weekly rental payment depends majorly on your negotiation skills as a driver before signing the agreement.

All car owners cannot categorically say they really receive payment on the same day or same time except the for card trips payment credited directly by Uber on Tuesday. Even Uber payment isn't consistent. Upper week the paid around 12pm but last week the paid around 4pm. Some weeks payment are delayed till Wednesday by Uber.

Our discussion was about his previous partner (Car Owner) who exploit him due his desperation to start quickly.

Just Imagine
a driver wakes up 5am. Goes to work for uber and closes by 11pm, reaches home 12am tp sleep and wake up 5am again.

He makes 10k everyday on uber

Uber takes 2500 and leaves him with 7500

He will pay Car owner
He will buy data
He will buy recharge card
He will buy fuel
He will save to buy oil and service car
He will save to renew insurance
He will save to renew car papers
He will save to fix car emergency problems

But Uber on the other hand will collect 2500 from other 1000 drivers in lagos in the name of commission. 2500 multiply by 1000 is equal to 2.5m.

So uber makes more than N2.5m everyday from services rendered by drivers and treats them as shit.

All uber does is pay govt tax, pay few staff and pay rent.

Its drivers that still pay inspection fee.
So, if there are 1000 drivers in lagos, Uber has already bagged N2m naira on inspection fee, talkless of people who had to pay 2times because they failed inspection and people who's cars got blocked and had to return for inspection.

This is a big *slap* on us Africans.
Let uber reduce that commission to 10% or leave Nigeria.

Quick question

Can a driver make up to 70k per week on uber / taxify before remittance to the car owner?

Am in total agreement with you here, it's been said here again and again to understand what you are signing yourself into. A lot of drivers are so desperate they'll sign into anything; that being said we can't excuse some of these drivers too. The last few pages is filled with a lot of them complaining about the weekly rental, do you expect me to put down a vehicle of almost 2m on 30k or 25k weekly? Would you do it? Notice it's pretty much the sane usual suspects..... Abeg it's not difficult, if an owner gives you a car in top condition and takes care of repairs, surely the fair thing to do is pay them their weekly payments without complaining how unfair life is. If your partners car is dead, drop it, if he/she is clearly being unfair walk away. It works both ways people.

Okay Sir.

But you still missed the point.

He wasn't in bondage because of weekly remittance. He was because of the clauses inside the contract agreement he signed.

Drivers should be careful when signing agreement.

According to him

He delivered 35k weekly without stress to his previous partner and now delivered 30k weekly to his new partner. Some drivers are on 20k weekly whereas some are on 25k weekly and some are on 35k weekly. It all depends on your negotiation with your partner.

You're right.

But I don't think any car owner with his functional and right senses correctly working would tell driver to handle some expenses for his/her car on a weekly rental.

I handle my repairs and at times try to subsidize any payment including car wash (sometimes) my partner incur except for petrol expenses.

I wouldn't take anything less than 35k weekly but wouldn't discouraged anyone collecting below 35k. Different people different stroke. Final decision belongs to the Car Owner not advisers. grin

Kn.eo is on 30k weekly driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla 1.8 Ltr engine whereas some drivers are on 35-37k driving a 2.3L engine 2004/2005 car. Some would say it's Luck, some would say it's favour and some would say it's negotiation skills.

That's why it's essential for new and upcoming drivers to take time first to LEARN from experience drivers before they EARN the badge. Experience drivers should also stop discouraging New and Upcoming drivers.

New and Upcoming drivers aren't threat to you. They wouldn't snatched your partner, new car owners are coming on board so new drivers need to come on board.

We encourage new car owners to come on board so why are people discouraging new drivers from coming on board.

Teach them, grow them, groom them. Chillex.8 is trying his bit although we fight him or diss him on some matters but he never stop grooming new drivers coming on board. He wouldn't support a defaulting driver and wouldn't stop abusing car owners with dead cars.

New drivers should asked questions and you experienced drivers should be kind enough to encourage, support or guide them.
