The one that I hate most is someone conducting interview for a position you don't know jack about.

They keep asking irrelevant question instead of questions that deals with the challenges of the job.

What the heck are, Chizzybaby@gmail.com, Zainab4luv@yahoo.com? Seriously, these ain't email anyone seriously looking for job should be associating with.

Personally, I prefer emails with the applicants' full name or first name.

Try as much as possible not to use numbers in your email address, only when necessary.

Something like this is manageable, LekanAzeez86@gmail.com but Lekan86@gmail.com is unacceptable to me.

Officiallekan@gmail.com, IamLekan@gmail.com, LekanOfficial@gmail.com are all acceptable to me.

If the work load is too heavy, then why can't they recruit additional hands or even sub-contract part of the task to other recruiting firms? His pompous attitude and lack of objectivity, is part of what is ruining the chances of many candidates, as it prevents companies from even getting the best fit for the job.
I understand your point of view,but what stops the applicant to use his full names anyway,I think I agree with the op ,let people use their full names on email addresses for job applications,it shows a form of seriousness.

In an economy where we don't have a lot of industries or companies, recruiters find flimsy excuse to disqualify to qualifiable candidates.


Can I ask the recruiter a question? Remember in the good old days, people were employed without a mail address. CV and Cover letter should be the first prerequisite for employment it is because there are no jobs in Nigeria some recruiters treat graduates badly or unfairly.


I don't blame some of you recruiters, I blame the economy and bad leaders we have in Nigeria.

Nigeria we be great again when graduates will be begged to work. Nothing last forever. Nothing is permanent.

I see most of this recruiters as d most confusing being.
They all set diff standards based on dier own personal judgment. The issue of using email add without nos shldnt be a prerequisite to choosing viable candidate.

He has highlighted some things above that shows he's just one of this ova pompous HR saying a candidate didn't make d clearance list becos he/she didn't send an acknowledgement letter appropriately.

I will like to remind OP that not everybody knows all this things and that doesn't mean they won't perform excellently well wen given a role.

Recruiters shld stop dis act of acting like demi gods that must be worshipped and learn to b considerate

What should attract your attention is just the person's CV, or resume. undecided That is what your focus should be on, if you truly want to offer your clients the best services.

I was once contacted by a recruiter on Linkedin. He had gotten my resume from an acquaintance, and wanted to verify some details. I sent him replies using my personal e-mail, and he was surprised at my mail address. I explained to him, that the mailbox had been opened for me, by my first employer, but the firm later migrated to a corporate mail address, and the old personal one, was discarded. I retained mine after leaving the firm, because I just couldn't be bothered to change it.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I got the job but had to decline the offer, because it clashed with my other plans. sad


You are limiting yourself by the email you use. No one will teach you professional emails in school but it is common sense. I will not bother with a chizzylove.Bleep or superboyxxx......it is a sign of immaturity, unseriousness and irresponsibility to use that mail for a job interview...rant all you can it will not change the business ethics of today's world.

This is one of the shifts between the old generation and new generation to whom nothing matters and nothing counts

I will tell you sir, that a good short concise acknowledgement mail as receipt of a mail for a job interview goes a long way to prepare the ground for a candidate. The candidate name resonant well with the HR recruiter and often time prepares the candidate for a mild toned interview session. Again for multistage interview, it is very good to send go acknowledgement mail. A 20-30 words mail kills no-one except a mentally lazy man.
It says a lot about the personality of the candidate and his desire to join the organisation. Makes you stand out from the teeming crowd of applicants.
Remember to the recruiter the applicant is either underemployed or unemployed, so what stops him/her from acknowledging a mail in a nice way.

His points are not dumb in any way whatsoever, those things he mentioned up post are the reasons a lot of applications go to the bin.

The email one can be relaxed though in some circumstances to permit ignorance. You should know an organisation has it culture and values which must reflect in all it staffs.
Have you ever wondered why some organisations in banking, insurance, education, health etc send away applicants with funny haircut and inappropriate dress sense,even though the appearance is not an objective measure of the ability of the applicant to perform on the job.
He hasn't fully developed the part of entering the interview first or last but I guess I know where that's headed.

Most of what the Op is saying applies mostly to freshers, i mean applicants with few or no year of experience. For an experienced candidate, the CV/Resume is what matters; skills, experience, projects, leadership roles, etc

I got 3 multinational jobs, using my personal e-mail address which does not even reflect my own name. So what is he saying? He is just trying to sound important. I repeat: a recruiter does not have any business with your e-mail address. His business should only be with your CV or resume! End of story.
And that's where you fail to understand the process. It is not whether a LAW permits the use of certain email addresses or not. Your email handle speaks volumes about you, just the way your hair or clothes do. Cyberspace has become part and parcel of our identities in this generation so it is easy to read a person's character from the kind of mail he/she uses.
Me I'm with OP on this sha... recruiters have a whole lot of sieving to do, so if they use th strictest criteria, then so be it.

DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER, the cliché stands

Using your name as your address is good, nevertheless, If the email ad isn't too bad like the one LaudableXX suggested, y not? Don't wait for a full name ad like onikolapoomojogbodarasimiolowogbogboro@hotmail.com before you proceed.

Some recruiters actually request to attach the cover letter so as to print a hard copy of it, and many don't like lengthy emails (myself, e.g). Do indicate your preference while advertising. I support putting a little introduction of your skills in job emails, though.


Try as much as you can to go through a candidate's documents. Only discard CVs if THEY ARE NOT TAILORED OR SUIT THE ROLE not because they are unimpressive. Nigerian recruiters have this annoying habit of not doing so. Imagine an interviewer asking a candidate "do you have any experience/education" while he/she has a copy of the candidate's CV in hand. You have to make them feel you want to study them even as you expect them to study your company.
Reasonable enquiries will focus on their potentials and what they have to offer not on obvious facts.

So many wrong people are in the right positions already because of recruiter bias

Another display of incompetence by recruiters is the act of sending undetailed IVs. How will an invitee acknowledge this?
e.g,

You're invited for an interview
on Mt. Everest
Tuesday by 11:00am bla bla bla...

no position indicated, what if you're a scammer?

THE COWARDLY ACT OF NOT NOTIFYING FAILED CANDIDATES OR saying "WE'LL GET BACK TO YOU" when you plan not to. SO GROSS & DUMB– attitude of lazy recruiters.

Be nice to all candidates. That one you rejected yesterday could hire you tomorrow.

While it may sound harsh that most hiring managers critique email addresses, it does happen because they do create a first impression.

Below are 7 deadly email sins to make sure to stay away from so you don’t end up in the “unprofessional” pile.

1. Wrong Name
John_smith@.....(dot)com (when your real name is David Jones)
Don’t confuse the reader from the start! Is your name John Smith or David Jones? There is no reason to have the hiring manager ask this type of question at the start of your resume.’

2. Fantasy Name
invisibleman@.....(dot)com
Are you applying for a job or are you auditioning for a video game?

3. Creepy Name
collegestrangler@.....(dot)com
Given the fact that over 80% of companies now run background checks on potential employees, there is no reason to give an employer the impression that you may have a criminal record.

4. Sportsperson:
tigerwoods50@.....(dot)com
This might have been ok when you were in high school, but not in the workplace.

5. The Numbers:
998877665544@.....(dot)com
Confusing! You are just asking for someone to send an email to the wrong place.

6. The Crude Name:
hairychest@.....(dot)com
Not a good first impression. Also, many of these email address contain words that will usually get filtered into the spam folder.

7. Confess love email address:
bonjovilover@.....(dot)com

Again, you are applying for a job, not a role as a groupie.

So… what should you do?
Stick to the basics. The best email address will contain your full or partial name, followed by either characters or numbers. Think about how most workplace email addresses are set up – most of them contain a combination of an employee’s first and last name. Try to mimic this – a professional email address represents a professional job Candidate. Don’t give your reader the wrong impression!

'Bias' could also be alleged when qualified candidates are dropped, simply because of prejudice on the part of the recruiter. undecided If a candidate gets to know that he was not screened for a position, even though he/she was fully qualified for the role, just because the recruiter didn't like his e-mail address, don't you think the recruiter's actions could be classified as bias?

Don't forget that applicants might know someone within the organisation, who could give them relevant inside info, and the recruiters may be unaware of this fact.
