phemmyfour:We have done mass recruitment for Shell. In fact I know their Head of HR, in PH. She had been transferred to Lagos. Believe me, that email won't fly, unless through placement or specialized recruitment. Do you know their is something we call we recruitment audit, 3 months after every recruitment. Every single thing you submitted would be verified again. If you are using that email, then it means you must be extremely good. |

Rebekkah: Oh my dear, may you live long! You just took the words right out of my mouth. These days, anyone can follow the so-called 'rules' just to get noticed by a recruiter, and called up for an interview. But the real test is in the suitability of the candidates for the job, and how much skill, knowledge, ability and expertise, he is able to bring on board. Some people have the most professional e-mail addresses, the best CVs etc, why? Because they have employed so called experts, to help them rewrite their CVs and create professional e-mail addresses, and also teach them how to answer standard interview questions. Put them on a job, that requires them to think outside the box, or apply specific skills to resolve an aberrant situation, and then you see their sheer incompetence, shining through! One of the best candidates I ever employed was a guy who sent me his CV. After reading through his CV, I was fascinated by one of his hobbies. So I called him up for an interview. That was when I noticed his e-mail address. It was excalibur@drx.com. Well, being a true fan of the mythical King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table in Camelot, I was intrigued. During the interview, I discovered he had skills in other IT areas, not even listed in his CV, that would come in useful on another project we were about to embark upon. Guess what? We employed him, sharp-sharp. He proved to be one of our best hires, ever. He was always quick on the ball, and had a great aptitude for designing creative solutions, and thinking outside the box! On one of the projects he handled for us, we made an additional 35% profit, because the client was impressed with the way he executed it. He was later head-hunted from our firm, by that same client, and we were really sorry to let him go. My own submission is simple. Give everyone a level playing field. Disenfranchising a potential candidate, by using a criteria that does not add any value whatsoever to his ability to do the job, is highly unfair. Did the recruiter put it in his job advert, that submissions should be only made using e-mail addresses that contain the candidate's full name? 5 Likes 1 Share |

If you like follow all the above stated rules, if the hiring manager does not like you, no show for you. Getting jobs these days some times lies on networking with the right persons who have a say in the hiring decision. These rules you stated do not apply in every situations. More so, you are among those arrogant recruiters we have nowadays, why should you judge a candidate on the basis of his email address name...? Doing so is unfair to the candidate. How does email address name affects the candidate's experience and skills, so far a candidate meet the job qualification requirements, he should be given the chance to sale his candidacy. |

orbitalgis:Cut the crap. I have worked with 3 top multinational firms over the past 10 years, and I used a personal e-mail address, that did not contain any of my names. In one case, I was actually head-hunted by the second company. One of those multinational firms posted me to 4 different countries on 3 continents to carry out different assignments, over a period of two years. Ernst and Young is one of the firms that worked for the company. And I once had a chance to vet their bills. So you need to know that you are not talking to a novice. As a young candidate seeking a job, I would advise you to develop your IQ, master your craft, acquire relevant certifications in your field, volunteer for different causes, expand your knowledge, and improve yourself as much as possible, so that anyone would see from your CV, the immense value you are likely to bring to any company that decides to hire you. 2 Likes |

My email address falls under the category of the type you ld discard but I have gotten invites from multinationals and I have worked with one before using the same email.I got an invite from Amazon using the same email address,I didn't land the job though but it wasn't because of the email. I ld rather be focused on competency of the candidate than his or her email address. 1 Like |

OfficialAPCNig: Sir/ ma....pls you don't need to defend your position to anyone. Reality check shows there are far more applicants than good jobs. There are millions of graduates but few are employable in world class organisations. You created this post to help some people who would learn from this. No need to defend yourself at all. Whoever feels strongly about your suggestions should discard it. Advice is not abuse as they say in local circles. This is a generational problem.....the old brigade were well trained and tutored by the best Nigerian teachers and educationists seasoned with the varied experience of foreigners -British, Ghanian, Indian and Pakistani....this matters and counts. Fast forward today you have schools in 2 bedroom apartments manned by partly qualified fellows..what do you expect? Finally, many world class companies are bothered about reputational issues and also check social media for posts and opinions before they make an offer to candidates hence the term the internet does not forgive is very real. souljaboi51: Sir, the key word there is Disabled, that can as well be included in my list. You're not permitted to discriminate on physiological framework of a person especially if it can be proven that the lack of mobility in a part of the body doesn't hinder the person from performing at the role. That applies in some country not all. Show me a specific example limited to the scope of what we are discussing here, the email username. I maintain go anywhere in the world, you will never win a case against a bias for denial of privilege on premise of email address except it can be related to race, sex, colour, gender, religion and/or disability. 1 Like 1 Share |

And why not spread the exercise of reviewing those applications over a couple of weeks, so that you can devote enough time to the task? Due to your laziness, you devised an underhand strategy to reduce your workload, and you are trying to present that crafty strategy as the gold standard of operations, for HR recruiters. solelymade: Instead of arguing with you, i would suggest you google anf read up on conscious and unconscious bias in recruitment, selection, interviews etc. You will find alot of examples on it/ cases where the legal system was involved. As i said earlier, i did my research dissertation on it and it is published in academia. You can learn one or two things and no i will not give you a specific link. LaudableXX:your email address says something about your person. Take for instance bigbutt@gmail.com... what comes to your mind first. Take away the sentiments. If you have worked in a multinational company as claimed, you should know what process is. Screening out un professionalism is not in anyway mudane. Personality is something recruiters look out for aside your qualifications and experience. If you are to be an Hr personnel, you will be trained more about this. So let someone with experience in this field advise people. You can advice people in your field. You don't need to tell people how to do their job. Guess what? I was called up for an interview in their Abuja office, while I was still living in Lagos. I explained the difficulties of getting to Abuja via a short e-mail to them, and they offered to reschedule the interview. |
