If you need to travel next week, I will advise you to initiate your withdrawal process ASAP.
I did my biometrics on the 14th of June and I needed my passport on the 30th of July for an appointment, I didn't get a notification until I decided to withdraw my application on the 24th of July and I was not able to get my passport for my appointment. I just got a notification today to pick up my passport after several visits to TLS and the UK Visa office at VI.

Please remove your passport number, it is not necessary. You can track it yourself by visiting TLS website then login with your details and check the status.

My wife submitted her's and our son same day (10th July). Got an email today that wifey's passport ready for collection but didn't receive any for son.

Could it be that son's own is ready too, considering fact that passport went together in the same bag (different GWFs)?

Going tomorrow to go pick-up (Abuja). Please house what's your take on this?

Greetings to the good people of this forum. I.will appreciate your imput to these grey areas.I intend travelling to the UK with my hubby In filing the application,do we stand a better chance of being issued a visa if we apply individually or as a couple? We both have good paying jobs. 2. If it is better off applying as a couple, how do we get to fill the application to show we are applying as a couple? 3. which of the visa application links is better, simpler easier to use,? The old or the new application link ? I heard the old one is better but i want opinions from real users. 4. Then can I make payment for the visa application through GT Bank or must it be online? I will appreciate your candid responses

I guess this may depend on the age of your son. Perhaps best you contact the airline. If you have a different surname, take his birth certificate and copy of his dad's ID with you. (Just a suggestion). Another option is for his dad to accompany to the airport; then he can provide any letter, if need b.

For unrelated minors, you would have needed to submit consent letters from both parents and parents IDs to NAPTIP office, then take the reply from NAPTIP to Immigration office at the airport, with letters to the (Deputy) Comptroller to NIS, at the airport of departure. (Best done at least a week in advance). Or follow the easier route of letting the parents subscribe to the "unaccompanied minor" service from the airline.

Applying as a couple will be better.
When filling the form, there are sections u will will be asked if you are traveling alone or with your spouse. in addition to this, when filling the TLS form, u fill as a group submission.
I think the old application form is more straight forward.
U can only pay online with a bank debit card or through paga online as well..
I hope this information helps.

Thanks for your contribution. I am spending this much beacuase I am going to be responsible for my son and wife's upkeep. In all we have 2.6Million and we plan to spend 1.3M. Is that bad when we'll still have half othe total money to fall back to when we come back?
Cyberknight:

Back in 2002 when I first applied for a UK visa, I had a balance of about 400k in my account (a not-inconsiderable amount at the time for those who can remember that the naira once had value). I can't remember precisely, but I think Lagos-London flights were in the region of 80k at the time (EgyptAir was offering about 60k, I think). In any case, I had worked out a budget of some 120 or 130k for the trip.

At that time, visa interviews were mandatory, and when I was interviewed the interviewer explained to me that they considered that it was illogical for me to want to spend about a third of my readily available cash on a holiday as this was one of the things they were required to consider. As to my other circumstances, I had been working for about a year and was unmarried, etcetera. It was my first denial.

To the best of my knowledge the guideline requiring some thresholds for assessing reasonable holiday expenses still subsists. I agree it may not always be uniformly applied (for instance, my brother, who is a doctor and unmarried, was granted a visa despite having only the total of a few months' salaries in his accounts - he was buying property at the time - I'd say he was granted because the chances of his transformation into an illegal as a doctor were naturally assessed as being very low), but if you're not in a comparable situation where your "rootedness" - i.e. ties and circumstances weighing in favour of a return is assessed as high, I strongly doubt your proposed expenditure of 1 million out of total available funds of 1.5 million would pass the proportionality test.

Just my opinion, naturally.

The criterion of the proportionality of the amount you intend to spend on a holiday is influenced by several other factors such as the amount you and your wife earn and other factors which taken together are used to determine the probability that you are genuine travelers and not prospective immigrants. As such one cannot say specifically if this amount is proportional without knowing all your circumstances such as what you family earnings are, your detailed travel history, ties to Nigeria such as property owned, etc., etc.

However, at the time I was applying for visas (it's been 5 years since I last applied for a UK visa and the reason why I'm reading this thread now is because I'll be applying again in January and I gather things have changed a lot since 2013, so need to familiarise myself with new requirements and features, e.g. applications were not online in 2013, for instance), it was a rule of thumb that one should try to keep one's proposed expenditure within the equivalent of 2 monthly salaries or thereabouts for proportionality. Not sure if this rough guide still applies, but note that I would think that things may have become stricter since 2013 and not the other way round. Also remember that before the Tories brought in this lousy "hostile environment" policy in 2011 or so, quite a lot of visas were issued to people who would simply not qualify now that the default position appears to be to refuse first.

As I stated in my last post, people who have strong "rootedness", travel histories or suchlike can play around with some criteria like my brother did and still scale through. If you're not in such a position, my advice would be for you to ensure as much as you are able that your application(s) satisfy all the criteria and let the rest be up to the issuing officer's discretion. Ever since I started presenting applications after carefully ensuring that they satisfied to the greatest extent possible all the criteria I was able to discover concerning that particular country, I've been lucky to get every visa I applied for. I'm sure you'd like that to be the same for you as well.

I appreciate your contribution so much. Of course I have got travel history, a bit though, been to Austria, Togo, Benin and Ghana with my family twice. I own two landed properties, one of which where we reside. My wife also has a landed property and an investment in TB worth about 2M. All these we are presenting and backing up with prayers. I just trust God that we'll get it.

Do not jeopardize your application by giving unnecessary information.

Now you mention family, is it a family member inviting you or a friend who is sponsoring your trip. Do not give too much information that will come back to bite you.

Make your additional info sheet simple short and straight to the point. Do not add sentimental sentences.

Is someone other than yourself paying for the trip? Explain why without saying too much. ........is sponsoring my trip as a gift to me, etc or whatever is not complicating.

Say what you plan to do in the time of your visit (and use days instead of weeks - they don’t like to see weeks so if you are going for 2 weeks, say 12 days or 14 days instead)... do you plan to visit museums, the London eye, a football fan? The stadium maybe and then return back to your studies and part time job.

thanks boss those are the places my friend taking me to during my visit ....ive submitted my application on Monday pls how can I know it's ready for pick up

You should register with the TLS Contact for Lagos or Nigeria. When you put in you GWF number (a reference number assigned to your application) it gives you status updates. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
