Maguire and Vardy to miss Man Utd opener
Breaking news.

Claude Puel has just conducted his post-match press conference at pitch-side and he has confirmed the inevitable.

Maguire and Vardy will NOT play against Manchester United.

Iheanacho gives City the lead
GOAL!

Iheanacho, who has looked sharp all pre-season, opens the scoring for Leicester.

Maddison picks up the ball 20 yards out in space, drives into the box, goes down (a little softly, to be honest) and Iheanacho mops up the loose ball.

Another impressive finish for Iheanacho. But, once Vardy is back, where does he fit?

The goals shows the talent is still there. Nacho was banging in goals during the preseason at City before his big bang in the league that gave him his impressive reputation.

to all those saying preseason flatters to deceive;

when you perform well in preseason, it shows your level of preparation. when you don't, it doesn't mean you will have a bad season.

I honestly thought that was grass but 20k should be enough for first round matches na. I should rather have a full small stadium than an half empty giant stadium. Anyhow sha, if na by size let me suggest Lagos, Abuja, Kastina, Ibadan, Uyo and Port Harcourt. All over 30K

Go look at the capacities of the venues used in the last 3 or 4 AFCONs. None is 20k. Standards should always be improved upon and not the other way round.

From the list up there only the Abuja, Uyo and Adokiye stadium in PH meet CAF Standards.

you are right bro.i am presently in accra ghana and what am seeing here in terms of development and infrastructure is no where near the hype

One thing I admire about the Ghanaians: Their patriotism. They so much paint their country in good light and you will think Accra is like Paris. grin

See even when Oil production began in Ghana. Ripples created by the noise they made resonated through the global Oil Industry. But last-last what is their daily production? So many fields in Nigeria even produce more than their total National Daily production. But they still brag about it. grin

After I toured round Accra on site seeing, I was like: is that all? shocked

Size of stadia does not always indicate standards being increased. A packed stadium does a lot for viewers watching at home, it makes the event more exciting.

Please if I may ask why do the others not meet CAF standards?

OK let me put it through.

Poverty rate, Nigeria 33.1, benin, 40.1

Economy per gdp. Nigeria 405.1 billion dollars, benin, 8.53 billion dollars.

Now tell me how on earth will u even think comparing Africans largest populous country with tiny village of a benin.
Only Lagos gdp will take on that country hands down.

I havent even bring on military might and infrastructures.
, dude stop embarrassing this country to sound intelligent.
There is no room for comparison between Nigeria and benin.

That thing up there is Benin 2015 stat, but, that said, equate the GDPs to the respective populations of the two countries, then, u tell me, on average, who has the better standard of living. A family of five would make do with a loaf of bread but two loaves wouldnt be enough for a family of 12.

Last time I had this debate, I was on ur own side but after I was provided with this link, I had a rethink ;

When Nigeria sneezes, only its citizens catch cold

Ibadan is natural and the others can get redone as natural it shouldn't be that hard to do and it will also help our football in the long run.

I need not roll out the South Africa 2013 AFCON Venues.

If Nigeria is to host AFCON in 2019 then we must present better facilities than those above. Period.

Hmm.. Eyimba stadium. You have a point though. But I have not really seen good pictures of the current state of the facility to conclude.

The only other 2 stadiums with natural grass are the UJ Esuene stadium, Calabar and the Ahmadu Bello stadium in Kaduna. But mehn...those stadiums are for the 20th century. Serious renovation need to be done to bring them to today's standards in less then 10months.

Plus the current administration is currently too focused on winning the next year's election to take hosting of the AFCON serious.

An option could be if Nigeria can co-host with Cameroun. It is even easier since we are neighbors. Each side will produce 3 stadiums each

CAF should have considered the poor state of facilities across Africa before expanding the AFCON to 24 nations.

We reach not ready to host or else AmajuPinnick want to make another political move.. He believe so much on private driven program so it can be possible but it might be very embarrassing. are you following how the altheletes were treated at the on going African altheltics championship, is very very embarasing I'm ashamed of Nigeria.

So I won't advice we take Any major tournament at this moment.

Below this current pics of aba Stadium.

Obafemi awolowo Stadium in Ibadan has natural grass too and very good... Pitch is good but infrastructure is very poor always see 3sc match there.

This Nigeria bashing has become a norm these days smh. I stayed in the states almost half my life. I am not some village hack who has been brainwashed or something because I like the NPFL. So I know what a great country is like but if you cant back your self nobody will do it for you. You tend to overblow anything involving Nigeria which is unfair, Nigeria has issues but where doesn't?
You missed the point with Togo and Benin. Without us where will they sell those goods?

The bolded is the only reasonable thing so far from the bunch defending Nigeria here, now let me use the right word, we "complement" each other. If the closed their boarders, we might go naked bkus of lack of okrika wears, carless because of lack of "Belgium motors"

There are people that just do not see anything good about Nigeria. To them any other country in Africa is better.

I shake my head for instance when I see people comparing a country like Ghana to Nigeria. Accra in my opinion is not more developed than Port Harcourt. What I heard before I visited there was way different from what I met. The only things they have that we don't have are steady power supply and security.

I watched a documentary of top ten most developed Cities in Africa, Lagos and Abuja were in top 6. Both in one country. Some of our state capitals are likened to the Capital of some countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

If you have never left this country and hear what people say about other countries you will think we are the worst in the world.

With the highest GDP in Africa, Nigeria is an economic giant of Africa.

God bless you sir.. We re our problem... Maybe we always expect too much from Nigeria. Nigeria is a great country

I don't want to derail this thread by discussing more detailed economic indices here. But just the simple basic index to assess the economic might of a nation is the GDP. We have the highest GDP in Africa and that makes us the economic Giant of Africa. You gerrit?
