I'm the solar boss wink
First, no, I don't do TV right from time. My laptop has always been my TV and DVD. My fan is 30 Watts, and I factored that into the fridge.

My laptop is the only device I need to be on for most of the time; at least 15 hours. Fridge can be on for 5 hours daily.
Bulbs only come on at night, and that's just 3 of them at a time (33 watts for 11 hours).

You have still not answered my question. ok, let me simplify it, do it this way: light 33watts for 11 hours, laptop 65watt for 7hours, fan 30watts for 12hours etc. multiply each and total all. that should give you Xwatthours. where X=total watt times hours for each appliance

You are going to need two of those batteries to meet up with the minimum voltage of your ups

Yeah it will but I will advise you to keep your load to around 150w for the health of your battery and ups, you can activate the energy saving feature on your TV if it comes with it to save more power

2148 Whr

Your required battery is 2148WHr/12v = 179AH

However you cant get exactly 179AH as batteries are manufactured in 7.5AH, 20AH, 40AH, 65AH, 100AH, 80AH,150AH, 200AH etc.

So, you can go for 100AH connected in parallel with 80AH.

I will however advice that you double the needed battery size you require to enjoy your set-up. So go for 400AH or 300AH if you can afford it. If you can't afford it, use a minimum of 200AH. I recommended 400Ah because it's usually better that at the end of the day, your battery isn't too exhausted.

if you use 200AH battery, With minimum of 400Watt solar panel, in 20A Solar charge controller, you can always smile with power! cheesy

If you are financially buoyant enough to afford 400AH battery, use 800watt solar panel. This set-up is quite expensive. I will advice you reduce the number of hours you want your appliances on, or buy lower wattage appliances, e.g instead of 11watt bulb, you can buy 5watt. there are 20watt ceiling fans now!

@ 11.8v on your CC means your solar panel is not charging your battery well.12v solar panels should have a charging voltage higher than 12v

You have still not answered my question. ok, let me simplify it, do it this way: light 33watts for 11 hours, laptop 65watt for 7hours, fan 30watts for 12hours etc. multiply each and total all. that should give you Xwatthours. where X=total watt times hours for each appliance

Boss, I'm interested in a similar set up...
Light here is a bit good, About 7 hours per day, unfortunately, the timing is off.

I'm usually unavailable when the light is on.

I stay in Ilorin.. What's d minimum low cost setup I can get?

All I need to power is just a laptop for 12 - 15 hours every day prefer one that charges Fast.

I don't have the money for solar so I will use the power from PHCN to charge it.

what's your budget?

30 - 50k.
I'm more interested in the quality of the set up.. Don't want something that will keep giving me problem like my generator.

I'm honestly tired of buying extra batteries for my laptop or buying spare parts for generator.. grin

Let me be honest with you, with that amount it's most unlikely. I will explain in details:

1. A laptop to serve you 12hours; the average laptop is rated 65watts. Hence for 12hours, you have 65watts X 12hours = 780watthours
2. I will not accept your excuse of not needing anything else because that's what most people say, but it's not practical. Would you keep using your laptop in darkness or continue sweating while browsing on your laptop? NO! At least a fan and one 5watt bulb will do you some good, so I will factor that in:
Small rechargeable fan of 20watt X 10hours (enjoy your sleep and browsing grin) = 200watthours
Just one 5watt bulb X 5hours (7pm -12 mid night, you can switch it off before going to bed) = 25watthours

N.B you can see that your laptop is consuming the most energy!

TOTAL = 1005watthours

Now the required battery size is = 83.75Ah (i.e. 1005 divided by 12volts)

I will recommend at least 100AH for you to enjoy this set-up (if you can afford 150Ah better!)

3. Minimum capacity of Inverter needed = 65watt + 20watt + 5watt = 85watt (I will recommend you get a 150watt inverter. They are not expensive! you can get one for N5k)

4. You need a charger. However, I must warn that there are many fake and unreliable chargers around town. Even the souer or whatever they call it is crap! Again, if you must use a charger, the frustration of waiting for PHCN to supply light before you charge is annoying. What if excuses of ..."hey! our transformer don blow!" or NEPA do cut our compound light and carry wire go" comes up, you'll go nuts with anger!. I will rather advise you get a solar panel and let nature supply you free power! I have been enjoying it for more than 2years and counting now. Infact, the reliability no be here o! With a 200watt solar panel, you'll say goodbye to power failure!

So, what's the total cost here? Let's do the simple arithmetic

1. 100Ah Battery (most important gadget here) = N50k (brand new battery - I will recommend Full river brand)
2. 150watt Inverter = N5k
3. 200watt Solar panel =N30k
4. Coper Wires = N2K
5. Sellotapes = N200
6. Charger = 10K

TOTAL = N97,200.

The problem now is that your budget is short by over 47K
So wetin man go do?

Simple, get only solar panel and a LiFe Battery power pack (I can arrange 100Ah LiFe powerpack for you with 40k, while you get yourself a solar panel). However I know of a guy who sells used solar panels. He informed me last week that he has about 4 left. I was trying to get them for someone else, but if you don't mind, I can give you his contact and you call him to negotiate for a 250watt which he said costs about 18k-20K) So, with roughly, 58k, you can get your set-up! using this alternative. No need for charger, although the power pack comes with a charger, but since you are buying solar panel, you wont be needing it! cheesy
