scotweezy: I posted some times back that I will write a concise tutorial on my journey through unlocking bootloader, rooting without tampering with stock recovery. Well! Below is what I could come up with;
Follow @Kstan's tutorial on unlocking bootloader I personally didn't utilise VPN and I got unlock permission very early the next day, actually way less than 24 hrs. Also, chrome, puffin or any other SIMILAR browsers can be made use of on phone to do the applying (please abeg no opera mini oo)
Additionally, due to network issues, getting your account bonded might not happen once. Repeated messages of 'error' will be returned just keep repeating till you get a positive confirmation.
Search for Kstan through Nairaland search to check for his post on unlocking bootloader.
Process to root without tampering with the stock recovery of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4(x) snapdragon version. This is essential in order to be able to do OTA.
Requirements; 1. Unlocked bootloader 2. Latest Adb and fastboot setup (in exe format) 3. Latest TWRP custom recovery for mido (in img format) 4. Latest Magisk manager app (apk format) 5. Latest Magisk zip. 6. Lazyflasher-no-verity for mido (zip format) 7. Latest stock recovery for mido.(incase you mistakenly install a custom recovery)
Note; 'mido' is the nickname for Xiaomi Redmi Note 4(x) snapdragon version. Ensure you find the LATEST versions of the above required files on the web (check the ever reliable XDA forum) except otherwise stated by the developer(s) of such resources.
If you're sure you've unlocked your device *check by going to 'settings' - 'additional settings'- 'developer options' and check 'unlock status' if your device is unlocked, you should see 'this device is unlocked' or something similar.
Before starting any tweaking on your device kindly find a way to do a NANDROID BACKUP aka full backup. Mi PC suite might be required for this or search the web for necessary steps.
*Copy all the above files to your PC to have a spare copy and your full backup and ensure you know the folder they are saved on your phone*
By now you should ensure 'usb debugging' under 'developer options' on your xiaomi device is activated.
Install the adb and fastboot setup on your PC.(kindly do a good web search on installing adb and fastboot on your computer relating to Xiaomi devices)
Next is to test the adb, navigate to the folder of the adb setup on your pc, it is usually located in the 'local disk' folder under 'computer' Connect your device, on your computer still in the 'adb and fastboot folder' press the 'shift key' and the 'right mouse button' do the pressing Simultaneously, navigate to 'open command prompt' and click. (the command prompt window will now open)
Type the command 'adb devices' the returned prompt should be 'devices connected' with some set of numbers which is peculiar to that particular device. If the returned prompt is not like the above then you will have to go back a few steps of this tutorial and troubleshoot.
Rename the TWRP in img format to 'recovery.img' and copy into the 'adb and fasboot folder' on your computer.
Now, switch off your phone and boot into fastboot mode by simultaneously pressing the power button and volume down button, wait for some few seconds till you see a Mi avatar and the word 'fastboot', now connect your phone to your computer.
Like previous, go into command prompt while in the 'adb and fastboot folder', this time around we will test for the fastboot status of the phone by inputting command 'fastboot devices' just like before the returned prompt should be 'connected devices' with some specific numbers.
Now, input command; 'fastboot boot recovery.img' Your phone should boot into TWRP recovery. (Very important: Ensure you DON'T swipe to enable modification). Click to flash to install zip and navigate to where Magizk.zip and swipe to flash. Repeat the flash step but this time around locate Lazyflasher-no-verity.zip and swipe to flash. (this step is very necessary to avoid bootlooping) Find the reboot button and click.
*Booting might take a little while than usual just be patient. Incase of bootlooping repeat the connecting to fastboot mode and boot into TWRP and flash Lazyflasher-no-verity.zip.

scotweezy: Google Camera mod Tutorial
The first step is ensuring you are either on Android Oreo which has the camera2api enabled by default. Otherwise it has to be done manually which requires the device to be rooted. In the case of a Xiaomi device, it has to pass through the unlocking bootloader to rooting process. Check my previous post for the tutorial on unlocking and rooting.
Requirements 1. Rooted device 2.Android verison 7+ preferably. (kindly double check this on the web) 3. Download Camera2api enabler flashable zip. (Flashable with custom recovery). 4. Download Camera2api enabler Magisk module in zip format. (There is a magisk repository on Xda forum full of magisk modules). 5. Download Manual Camera compatability app on playstore. 6. Es file explorer or any explorer with root capability.
*Since a rooted device is mandatory for GCam module, to root your device you must have installed a superuser which opens up the root part of your android system AKA root. Magisk is currently the most advance form of superuser apps which enables root systemlessly.(Kindly read up on the web). With Magisk root can be acquired without being visible to the entire system.
Magisk method Open the magisk manager app and navigate to 'menu' by swiping from left to right, click on 'modules' and click the 'yellow + label' below to add a module, this will take you into your storage. Navigate to the previously downloaded Camera2api enabler magisk module in zip format and add. Reboot your phone to enable changes.
Custom Recovery method Those with a custom recovery on their device e.g TWRP, Redwolf, Philz etc should flash the camera2api enabler flashable zip through recovery.
Root explorer method For this example we are utilizing Es file explorer. Open Es file explorer, navigate to the menu and activate root option. Tap on 'options', select 'Device', select 'System' , select 'Build Prop', Tap Edit, And type the command below: persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1
Click Save. Reboot your phone.
After using any of the above method to enable Camera2api, Now open the Manual Camera Compatability app and do the test. If the result turns out all green, you are good to go to utilise most versions of the GCam mods available.
Google Camera mod settings
I personally utilize MGC Google camera mod on my Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Snapdragon Global. Search and read online about other mods available.
Settings; BSG Mod settings
Model: Nexus 6p
Config camera HDR: Pixel 2017 zsl HDR+
HDR+ parameters: the higher the better the HDR after effect and the higher the time it takes to process HDR after effect. Just select 'High'
Manual fixed black level offset: Fix black level front camera: 64.00 Leave the remaining at default here.
Lens blur: default
Final JPG quality: 100%
Compress RAW (*DNG): activate
Potrait Mode on all models: activate
Increase the detail of HDR+ in front camera: activate
Restart app to enable new settings.

salmaz: Finally.... joined the Xiaomi Family! I decided to try our sellers here believing where AliExpress failed, they'll deliver as my 2 different orders of Xiaomi phone was shipped but never landed and opted for MACBEYLAND. He delivered within 4 days through EMS but Alas the phone came with a FACTORY DEFECT! Screen never wakes up after going to sleep... tapping screen/connecting charger/power button and vol keys all couldn't do EXCEPT you restarted but phone must not go to sleep! Updating/factory reset never solves the issue. Contacted MACBEYLAND narrating the problem..he offered technical support with GPTECH also making inputs to no avail. Without hesitation he asked for a return that he'll send a replacement... I was like could this be real as I teared nylon myself so he could claim it's not his doing but he places Integrity above business. I Return the phone with all freebies he sent with it thinking he'll check if the problem can be solved and return same back but got another surprise as he informed he'd shipped the replacement even before the former arrives. The replacement even came with more freebies than the previous one...2 tempered glass, 32GB memory card, phone holder and earpiece. MACBEYLAND has shown that your integrity matters in business.... prospective buyers should trust this guy while sellers should emulate him. MACBEYLAND....a trusted and reliable seller. Have more prosperous business ahead. Keep it up brother! Wonderment , oga Macbeyland, thanks alot! 7 Likes |
