And did the senate of the whole house elect Saraki?

Yes, he had 57 votes while Ekweremadu got 73 votes.

PDP don't have up to 57 votes in the Senate at any point in time.

This is what Saraki should have done the moment he switched to the minority party. But being the thief and diabolical soul he is, he chose to contravene the law and expected everyone to accept it like that.

Good one from Akpabio.

No impunity from him

Saraki isn't the President of APC senate. He is the President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Akpabio has left PDP, so there is no way he can be the leader of PDP in the senate while he's in APC. If Saraki had been majority leader and decamped, he would have resigned, however he's Senate President. His position cuts across all the political parties in the senate, so he shouldn't resign just because he decamped.

This is what credible and honorable Statesman will do, resigning from a position that he got from a political party he is about to decamp from. Akpabio just end my respect by this act. Not con man like Saraki who wants to hold on to SP by all means..
