still cheaper than paying tithe though!

You are paying BBC's tithe...... So Gary Lineker, Chris Evans and Co, can live like Kings & Queens .......

They will definitely come and inspect your property. Before they knock on your door they will park as close as possible to the address, seat in the car and just 'observe'. After a few days they will knock on the door and that is likely to be in the evening or when it's obvious the TV is on.

The first thing they will check is if you have any TV box around the TV, then check if there is an aerial cable around your TV. If any of these two items are present, you will be fined 100% and would have to prove to the court that you are not using them.

If you have any of these items, get rid of the cable and remove the TV box. The best thing to do is NOT let them into your property under any circumstances.

If you do let them in, don't give them any information as they will probably just use that information to summon you to court anyway, those guys work for Capita and they are on target that comes with commission.

If you have Iplayer on ipad, you will likely get away with it until they tighten things up but be a good citizen and contribute to their coffers smiley

Lol! Thanks for the heads up!

People pay far more for Sky or Virgin etc... Just, feel its wrong to justify not paying it. If you don't want to pay its fine, but don't try to justify or bring up reasons. Its their law. It may not be perfect, but that's what they want. Like paying your short stay parking...not compulsory, but if you get caught out, you cough up a Penalty charge

I know of someone who was avoiding tv licence for years and one day accidently , the youngest toddler opened the door with the remote control in his hands. He quickly ran to the post office that same day to pay the fee for the whole year.

What is a toddler doing, opening the front door?

Do you have kids?

Mistakes do happen, some kids accidently call 999, with kids, all it takes is turn your back for a second. They watch you when you lock the door , they can take a chair and climb. etc they should not be underrated.

i used to think there were no consequences with not paying tv license (and getting caught) until i met someone whose application for UK citizrnship was denied over the same issue under the 'character test' for citizenship applications.

she has to wait for another 12 months before she can apply again for UK citizenship and there is no guarantee that her application will be granted. she was caught out (i think she opened the door in error) and accepted to pay the fine without going to court.

tv license funds the BBC. the BBC is an institution the Brits are very proud of, so the home office considers not paying the fee a grave offence as the TV license funds the BBC. the case worker has the discretion to refuse applications over 'convictions' from not paying the license.

If you are still under any sort of migrant visa including ILR and you are chasing UK citizenship, I will suggest just paying the £140 yearly fee.

It is very unlikely that they will relax tier 2 system for non medical roles. Supply outside of the the NHS is plentiful and relaxing it will definitely distort the job market.
The two Scala Devs in my office came through Oxford Knight but they were already working in Germany, the QA lady came directly from India but can't remember which recruiter she used either third republic or hays specialist. You can check them out.
If they shut the door, then non EEA will have a better chance but that is unlikely at the moment.
Thanks for the response. will check those firm out as suggested. once again thank you

I honestly don't understand why people become so judgemental when rules are rules...personally, i think its a matter of integrity and having a moral high-ground and setting a good example for the junior ones. After getting away with tv tax....one might be tempted to do the same for other taxes

I cannot remember the person I promised to send an update, informing him/her about the Nurse apprenticeship position......

Simply log onto NHS jobs and apply directly........... Put your location and search.........

You've said it all. The govt needs taxes for the smooth running of the economy. That's why nothing works in Nigeria while the govt is busy looting the economy, the citizens are no better, they want to bribe the electric engineer for free light, the driver doesn't want to update his vehicle documents but prefers to bribe his way through. at the end of the day there is nothing like a free lunch you have got to pay for it one way or another.

Sign up with an electricity or gas provider and request for a bill, you can use it for opening an account. There is nothing better than a high street bank where you can go in and meet someone to speak to. Most of these banks or apps can cost a fortune to run. There is also "pockit" which you can try as they are good and you only pay for transfers. So you can use them while you wait for your bill to come through if you are urgently in need of an account.

Hi Sister.... I would like you to help me on something please

You can drive with international driving licence 1 year from the date you entered Uk,after that, you can't drive with it again except with Uk full driving licence or provisional licence but with provisional licence, you must be accompanied by a person from 18years and above and he or she must have been driving for the past 3years on Uk full licence.

Hello Brother. Are you in the UK?

Use a 5-star reviewed Driving school/instructor, and i hate to be racist, but avoid Pakistani teachers or Asian teachers...in my experience they treat Nigerians like they're punishing us for our bad behaviour or like ATM machine or like we're stupid, except if the Asian instructor is 5-star reviewed....and if he has 1 star and self-reviewed himself with 5-star...definitely avoid!

I heard AA is highly recommended

Sure. Thanks for the feedback.

This TV licence issue came up at the very best time.

I got gifted 2 TVs yesterday. I recently moved house and I haven't gotten any letters from the TV guys to pay or anything.

My question is, should I seek them out and pay or just wait for the letter?

Ps: I have no problems paying for the money. I like my peace of mind.

Depends on what you will be using, If you will be subscribed to box TV and recording programmes, you have to pay.

That reminds me of one naija house I went to visit, immediately I knocked, I could hear the kids screaming and running TV license people are here mummy and did not open the door oo until there mum came down.

I was impressed by there level of cooperation but also thought if that is a good thing to imbibe in or portray to kids?

It could have an overall effect when they start flouting rules and disobeying orders blatantly but who knows I could be overthinking it.
