You sure you had dinner yet?

Hand it over to God? Go sleep on Lagos-ibadan expressway and hand your life over to God.

The kid stands a great chance of being born deformed or severely lacking. You can't cheat nature. Alcohol, smoking or taking illicit drugs don't mix with pregnancy.

The most critical period of pregnancy is the embryonic stage/ organogenesis when the organs are formed in-utero which is the first two months. At seven months, there is very little or no risk to the foetus from what the mother consumes

Very very wrong.

"When you drink, alcohol passes from your blood through the placenta and to your baby.

A baby's liver is one of the last organs to develop and doesn't mature until the later stages of pregnancy".

Without a fully developed Liver , how would the baby break down molecules of alcohol?

I thought I would just read comments and pass but as usual, there is soo much misinformation or lack of it on this matter.
In Nigeria, It's objectively difficult to assess the risks posed to a woman who takes alcohol. Why? Because we don't look out for it. And ofcus, it's also difficult to say how much alcohol can be harmful to the baby.
Alcohol poses risks to both the mother and the child.
> To the mother, there is a risk of preterm labor, separation of placenta (abruptio), and even early loss of pregnancy- sometimes before she knows she is even pregnant.
> To the child, risks include heart problems, slow growth rate, being too hyperactive (ADHD), having frequent seizures, easily falling sick (cos of weak defenses), he may be less smart than his peers (low IQ) among others.
Most of these stuffs are identified late and it would be difficult to point them to the mother's alcohol. They can be attributed to other causes, esp in Africa, but the best bet is for a woman who expects pregnancy or is already pregnant to stop drinking.

Please I am still in shock, I went to a beer joint to cool off yesterday and I saw a woman who should be about 7 months pregnant with her husband and both were drinking life beer. The woman took about two bottles with pepper soup. I felt she is killing her foetus out of ignorance and that kept me wondering. is the baby safe with alcohol in her system?

Doctors in the house what's your thoughts

What did you do when you saw her drinking "life beer"?

Pregnant women are told to abstain from alcohol altogether but some women have a craving for them during pregnancy. I know of a lady who only drank straight ogogoro for nine months. Baby came out fine.

Depending on her system, baby may turn out just fine.
But that doesn't make it right though.
I saw Lady with her husband drinking st Remy and the husband was proud saying to any body heari " my wife dey high pass me even with belle" we watching arsenal match that day. When he was challenged , he bought st Remy and called his wife. The lady came with about 7 month pregnancy. Both idiot finished one whole st Remy. Some even bought another bottle stating he love the woman spirit. D tin tire me DAT day

DonFreshmoney:

It is not his problem but it is a big concern for the society.

Going by the ridiculous and ignorance filled comments I have read on this thread, I begin to imagine what the young people of nowadays learn in school.

The internet is available for all to be educated on things people know nothing about rather you people are spilling comments devoid of knowledge.

A simple Google search on the effects of alcohol on foetal development would have put the ignorance of many away.

To summarise the reason why it is his problem to be concerned, a foetus that comes in contact with constant alcohol or drug abuse is at the risk of acquiring foetal alcohol syndrome, global developmental delay, intellectual disability to mention a few.

Those diagnosed with the above have little capacity to understand some basic relational issues or some cannot even have the capacity for empathy. They are at risk of developing serious anti-social and criminal behaviours especially in a country like Nigeria where there is no government intervention plans for kids with such diagnosis.

When the kids grow up and start to exhibit anti-social behaviour you people will start calling him all kinds of name because he is becoming a nuisance and big problem to the society. At that point, you will understand that it is everybody's business to be concerned about things like this.

What you and your likes don't understand is that the problem does not necessarily manifest in physical deformity, sometimes and most times, it is the brain that is usually attacked which is the centre of all human coordination and cognition.

Alcohol consumption and abusing drugs during pregnancy are things that should be condemned from and by right thinking individuals. Little wonder pregnant ladies are usually advised to consult their GPs Even before taking something as little as Panadol.

For a prosperous society, it is everybody's business to be concerned about someone taking alcohol and abusing drugs during pregnancy
