Good Morning Guys! This is an offset of the Canada immigration thread. Apparently, some of us need TEF exam to boost our scores. I therefore created this thread to serve as a meeting place for all TEF candidates. Let's share ideas and rub minds together. Two good heads, they say, are better than one. So let's start with these questions: 1) Are you writing TEF? 2) Have you registered? 3) When are you writing? 4) Where are you writing? 5) Have you written one before? 6) Which materials are you using? Zeewirld: Good Morning Dear, What is your level? A1, A2, B1, B2? Do you have people around you that speak/write French? Do you have time to take classes? Do you have access to the Internet? Mind typing in French here? These must be considered before going for any learning aid so that you won't get what you don't need or what you cannot even use. My name is etrange 9 Likes 3 Shares |

CanadianEnginee: Is it possible? Yes, I think it is. But then again, you have to consider what "pass" means in TEF Unlike DELF where you write either A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 or C2 and then pass or fail any of these levels, TEF is a singular exam that will place you on the right level based on your performance. In other words, you do not usually fail or pass TEF. The exam only grades you. Whether the outcome is acceptable or not then depends on the level required by the institution requesting for the exam. Canadian immigration is asking for CLB4 if French is presented as a second language. This can be likened to B1 according to the information I got at Alliance Francaise. So the question is, can you attain B1 in 8 months? Like I already answered, I believe you can. But that will take some serious dedication. Bearing in mind that your migration to Canada might depend on it should be a good source of motivation. Again, you must engage in personal studies asides class room lectures, make friends with those that speak the language and never give up even when it seems impossible. The last point is very important because there is always that point in foreign language learning where you feel you can't move on or that you are just wasting your time. Pass that stage and success is guaranteed. As they say, the seceret of learning a language is speaking the language. Speak, speak, speak. Even when it sounds horrible. It can only get better. As for me, I was exposed to French in secondary school. I have been learning on my own since then. I wrote and passed DELF in 2013 9 Likes 4 Shares |

Hi Everyone My friend and I are thinking about going this route to help boost our scores, but I don't know if I can yet as the last time I studied french was in secondary school, years ago. Also I work, so will not have time to attend lectures. I don't even know where to start from. OP, is this doable for me? etrange: |
Re: All TEF Candidates For Canada Immigration, Let's Meet Here! by etrange: 11:12am On Aug 14, 2018 |
njbybrthnly: Ok, I was not totally accurate but then again, we do not need up to CLB7 in French to make points provided French is not the primary language. In more detail, NCLC7, NCLS8 and NCLC9 are the required levels for those presenting French as a primary language. In June last year (as can be seen in the picture you shared), it was stated that if you have NCLC7 (lowest of the three), you can still augment your points by scoring up to CLB4 or CLB5 in English (non of which is acceptable if English is your first language). On the other hand, CLB7, CLB8, CLB9 and CLB10 are the acceptable levels for those presenting English as a primary language. However, you get additional points if you make up to NCLC5 in French (which is not acceptable if French is your fist language). The aim here is to awrd those who know both languages fairly enough. In addition, NCLC and CLB are not really similar in grading. NCLC5 is similar to CLB5 but the score ranges differ a little. Compare the chats below to understand more. From the chat, NCLC5 is between CLB5 and CLB6 and CLB6 is Intermediate 1 which is equivalent to DELF B1 standard. Hence the validity of what the instructor told me at Alliance Francaise. Correct me where I am missing it. 5 Likes 3 Shares

solidhomes: Cool, I also registered at Yaba. I am also writing in October (either 27th or 30th). Whatsapp group is a cool idea. I had earlier suggested it. I did not want to push it further in order not to violate people's privacy. You know, Nairaland gives one the luxury of participating only when he/she is free. but we can do it if we agree on it! 2 Likes 1 Share |

Good Morning Everyone, Please, let's share the thread with others in order to get more participants and hence more views/opinions/experiences/ideas/tips/hints! Any suggestion on how best to practice speaking? I presently talk to myself when I am alone and that's weird. 1 Like 1 Share |

etrange: Honestly, I had to go through your post more than once before I understood it (at least I think I did )...but I wasn't just talking about the points you get based on your score. Besides those points you get 30 extra points if you get NCLC 7 in the TEF equivalent to DELF B2...some of us need more than 16 points before we can even dream of getting ITA...play with the CRS tool to see what I mean...this is how i understood it...I could be wrong sha Let me go back to their website to be sure |
Re: All TEF Candidates For Canada Immigration, Let's Meet Here! by etrange: 4:27pm On Aug 14, 2018 |
njbybrthnly: Lol... I believe you did understand me . And yes, I have been playing with the CRS tool for a while. In fact, I have abused it. Of course, as your NCLC increases, your point increases as well. What I was trying to explain in my response to the original question is that the dude only needs up to NCLC5 (B1) to make point from his knowledge of French language. In other words, while he could do better and earn more points, he only needs at least B1 to make the basic points (4 points per ability) given for additional language skills. Anything less will not count (0 point). My response is actually for those asking if they should give it a try given their limited knowledge of French language. I am of the opinion that they should go ahead. It's worth it even if they are only able to strike B1. Clearer? Yours is a different case, you are not our mate. You should be aiming for NCLC9 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Hi etrange, Great work starting this thread. I think when handled right, this thread will become a point of reference for people using French as a tool to get to Canada. For me, I'm not taking TEF, but I'm working on improving my French and want to contribute to the thread. I think the scope of the thread should be expended to include: 1. Posts encouraging people in their learning of French. 2. Posts sharing different language learning tools as we all learn in different ways. Nigerians are quite good in languages. Most of us already speak at least two languages (English and our native tongue). French should be a step up. The problem we have is the way we were taught French in our primary and secondary schools. It made quite a lot of us (me inclusive) resistant to the idea of learning French. But it is achievable. It shall end in praise! 7 Likes |

Bonjour à tous! and thanks étrange for this initiative. I saw this post yesterday and sent a comment. It Never got posted and i was banned for 24 hrs probably because my post was in french. So i will try again, this time in english. It is very possible to get a B2 in 6 months assuming you are doing thé Very intensive programme (VIP) at Alliance Français. Any other programme will take much longer. For example, I started studying in January with thé Regular evening programme and it took till May to conclu de with A1. From then, i took a private teacher and i had a very solid A2 in 5 weeks. My teacher says with a good A2 and lots of practice, one can excel in TEF. As for study materials, i have thé TEF 250 activités and TEF Prepmyfuture app. Thé app is very helpful because it tells you thé strategy for tackling Every question type and shows u your progress as u master thé concept. There is also vocabulary and grammer les sons and practise questions, TEF mock exams and alot of TEF patterned questions for your practice. I would like to take thé exam in septembre at Alliance Phc but I'm still not satisfied with my fluency level. Maybe i would come over to Lagos for thé Octobre exam. Until then I look forward to improving my french by being part of this thread... Below is a mooc course on coursera you can use to improve ur french, its free www.coursera.org/learn/etudier-en-france Below is thé link to thé TEF prepmyfuture. Though you will have to pay for a one year access. https://prepmyfuture.com/tef-english 51 Likes 26 Shares |

Great initiative @etrange. I am currently studying French although my initial plan was not to write TEF. From the look of things, i may need to do so to boost my CRS score. Am at B1 level. I haven't registered for TEF yet. Am still exploring before committing to letting go of 100k...I need to be sure am good enough to get a good score. 1 Like 1 Share |

TEF: Test d’évaluation de français French exam needed for migration to Canada. You and Nogen are the Canadian French speakers I know of. The others in the Living in Canada thread do not seem to be speakers (I hope I am wrong, the more help the better). Quite a lot of people need to take French in order to boost their points for migration. I am asking for tips on learning French and encouragement for people. P.S. @mazuide also wrote that he is learning though he has not come online for a while. TheCongo2: 2 Likes |
