Yes well said,
was speaking with one today, was asking him how many cars he has driven on the platform, he mentioned 6 shocked shocked shocked shocked. Why do you keep changing cars bro, haven't u seen a good deal n awesome car, he was beating around the bush, to me his just a bad driver, a good driver should fall in love with the car his driving thereby maintaining it to standard.

Spot ON

My first car was a dead
one, I managed for 2 months ( with a stupid agreement at the moment), 2nd car was driven for 6months before sell off. Fell for another dead car based on familiarity with owner, in 4weeks I backed out. Entering month 4 with current one, and can drive this one "forever" if allowed.

I have also warned to keep calculating your fares intermittently on taxify when on a trip. Say every 3km or so, at least you're sure 200 should have added. If not inform your rider app has hung and do the needful. Offline or restart waka

Well we all have opinions that we are all entitled to. The opinions below are from a technician's point of view.

The bad impression about Nigerian used cars come from the fact that many of us don't follow strict manufacture's recommendations when maintaining our cars. Ideally, if every maintenance schedule is strictly adhered to, a used car is a used car, whether foreign used or local used, it shouldn't matter; but then that is an ideal situation. I know quite a few customer's cars that I can buy without batting an eyelid if they put them up for sale.

On the flip side, foreigners do cut corners too. I've had to go on vehicle inspection for a client who wanted to do Uber. We inspected total of 6 Tokunbo Corollas that day. I couldn't pass any of them. Now, someone will buy one of those and advertise it as toks, and now believe its better than a few, well maintained Nigerian used cars.

Just be careful out there when acquiring those cars. Shikena!!!

Those foreigners are they Nigerians ? Because to my undestanding Nigerians are the ones that buy mostly all the Toyota products at Auction . Some cars at the auction are meant for parts only, but Nigerians at the auction or foreigners you call them will than ship the cars to Nigeria and fix them up.. So let's us be clear when we are pointing fingers o..

That's a good point. The aim of my post wasn't to point fingers actually, just to let people know that you can also buy "dead" "toks" cars. So its not actually about it being Toks. As long as it's a used car, exercise due diligence.

But then, on a general note, apart from what you mentioned, there are foreigners (non Nigerians) that cut corners in car maintenance too. Not in the proportion we have it here, but it also happens.

The way people condemn Nigerian used cars here self na something else. A toks on ehailing for 6 months is a foreign used vehicle? How many drivers here are driving a direct toks on the ehailing? All the vehicles being advertised here for rentals, are they all toks?
Partners with flooded cars & rollovers too be claiming toks & want HP Deal
Most Nigerian used cars under 2-3 years are way better than a 6-months old toks on ehailing adding 1200 km every week!!

Hello experts. I'm want to invest in Uber/Taxify, I have a tight budget which will only get me a Nigerian used car. Most people are saying I shouldn't buy Honda because of ball joint issues that Toyota is the better choice. Is there anything wrong buying an auto transmission Accord, Civic or City? Is buying a manual Toyota Corolla/Yaris going to be a good choice?

I won't be the one driving, I patiently might for honest opinions.

tunlapapa:

Chillex come o. Another dead car to be added to the platform for desperate drivers. I'm sure he will want to collect insurance fee and still expect 35k weekly

tunlapapa:

If e no be panadol, e no fit be like panadol

tunlapapa:

Forget about all those maintenance, our roads are not good, even gas we buy are contaminated. A vehicle driven on naija road for 3 months will surely be diff from toks.

We have had this conversation again and again.

I am usually dazed and surprised when people come here to say Nigeria used cars are Dead.

If Nigeria used cars are dead, what happens to your imported prestine tokunbo when you use it in Nigeria. I guess they also die on the spot.

Let get something right, just like the expert as said, avoid abused cars whether Nigeria or foreign used.

If you have ever go on car shopping you would understand the meaning of dead car because trust me you would come in contact with many.

I have a Nigeria used car and if you do your due diligence very well you would get the best deal buying a Nigeria used car because everyone want a toks, hence the unwarranted hype in price for toks.

For Kokoboy, my advice for you, get a car in a good working condition. Avoid abused car and get yourself a honest and very competent mechanic to go do physical inspection.

Vehicle purchase is a huge and capital expenditure, you can't afford to get it wrong because if you do, your bank account would bleed from repair works. If your money isn't sufficient enough, wait a bit and get yourself a good car (Toks or Naija Used).

Don't buy an abused car you can't use yourself just because you want to give out on rental and don't mind anybody trying to discourage you from buying a car, ask them to show you their keys. cheesy grin grin
