I switched to synthetic from over 10 years (of regular oil changes) with conventional oil.

It's been almost a year now and no engine problems. Heck even a misfire issue I used to have has disappeared.

NB: 10 years includes time spent with previous owners as they said that's the oil they use

Wow! I have a similar story too

You see if your car was manufactured from the year 2000, conventional oil has no business flowing in your engine.

One major reason a lot of drivers still use 20w50 (dino juice) is cost

What say ye about manufacturer recommendation on 20W-50 for 06 Elentra?? I don't think temperature in part of Nigeria ever gets to negative

Picture 1 contains arguments to help you decode what is in the picture you posted.

However in the light of picture 2, I would go for the lowest possible acceptable viscosity and not the highest

That it is listed there does not mean it is the best possible choice, it may be for marketing/pragmatic reasons that it is included

What facts are you talking about here?

I have used the Toyota Oil the OP is selling and like I stated, the Mobil isn't better from my experience. That is why from my next change, I'm switching to Honda oil. I was using Milemaster 5W 20 initially till the seller stopped importing so, I started using Toyota 5W 20. I switched to Mobil 1 5W 20 to know the difference and, like I stated earlier, my next change will be Honda 5W 20.

I use basically only manufacturer recommended fluids for my vehicle apart from oil which I have used the three stated above due to my inability to get Honda 5W 20 initially.

Now, you tell me what facts you have to show that the Mobil oil is better than the Honda or Toyota Oil? The manufacturers in their owners' manuals state that the oils should be API certified. So, Who are you to say otherwise?
Nor be quarrel, he showed you that mobil 1 is advanced full synthetic while Toyota and Honda are synthetic blend. I use synthetic blend oil from Unimark on my Toyota and it is wonderful but claiming synthetic blend to be the same as advanced full synthetic is not correct, they are miles apart. cry

5w20 is general option and 20w50 is the recommended for that car under certain conditions. Use 5w20 and if you can't find it then you can temporarily use 20w50

I think Nigeria temperature/weather fits "certain conditions"

Judging from the instruction on the picture I posted from the workshop manual..

"AAA Spills the Truth on Oil Changes"

As synthetics move more towards the mainstream, this study might be a 10-15 years too late. It doesn't draw any conclusions that a seasoned BITOGer hasn't seen already. The 59 page PDF study on link on the right side of the column, I've only had a few minutes to look at it and hope to get more time to read it completely today. I really wish they would name their test oils. There are some conventional and synthetics that really shine versus their peers. Anyhow, I thought it was interesting that hoped some others would find it interesting as well.

For the other side of the argument, see also https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/4424676/AAA_Conventional_vs_Synthetic_
