Cody Coots was bitten by a snake while giving a sermon and required emergency medical intervention to save his life. .

But in their Kentucky church, this is not the first time a snake handler has been bitten during a religious service. Coots’ father, Jamie Coots, was bitten by a snake and died after he asked that his fate be left up to God’s will.

Metro reports that Cody asked the same of his congregation. He told them if he is bitten, they should take him to the mountaintop for the Lord to decide whether he lives or dies.

But luckily, a few parishioners, including a man named Big Cody, defied him and sought medical attention.

“Most people bit in the face are dead in five, ten minutes. I mean, his own daddy got bit in the hand and within seven minutes was dead.”

Big Cody says he still remembers when Jamie Coots, the pastor of the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Jesus’ Name church in Middlesboro, Kentucky, died at age 42 after being bitten.

The church is compelled by the Bible verse, Mark 16:18: “They will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them.”

Cody Coots says after this experience, he’s going to rethink the practice of snake handling in his religious services.

This is why it is good to have sensible and intelligent people in ones church , they know when to apply their common sense , i am sure they must have been warning him about using snakes to preach and they would have been prepared for such occurrence because they knew the preacher father too made the same mistake .
and thank God that finally common sense has entered the pastor brains.

Most Nigerians don't know that just as we have Christian fanatics in Nigeria- like the Deeper life people, there are worse in the bible-belt of America. Their forbears believed in a Jesus, PLUS ensalavement of African people.
In addition, they might constitute the major supporters of Trump. They are usually fanatical ,love guns and believe that their God-given destiny is to rule over all other races.
Surprisingly, many Nigerian Christian ideologies of the '70s and '80s came from these people- the S.U movement, the Apostolic faith movement and the beginning of the 'properity -message' movement. However, they hid their war-loving, gun-loving messages from Africans who came to learn their brand of Christianity. Among them, you will find a lot of mis-educated white people, semi-illiterates and KKK racists who act 'nice' to mumu Nigerian christians when they come in the name of missionary work (note: I am not talking of British missionaries of the 19th and early 20th centuries).
