My confusion came from the fact that the online reviews of the Citroen C4 which I like has mixed reviews but my cousin in this UK said he has been using his for 2 years without issue. And he bought an old model fairly used one. So it’s a case of experience vs online reviews Which is meant to be the same thing

Anyway, I may not be nosing the car driving test just yet because it seems taking the train to work might be better for me. Train to work = 20 mins. Me driving = 50 mins to 1hour. So I’m not too sure it’s worth it driving now especially as the weather has been surprising marvellous to us. Maybe when the cold comes I’ll change my mind.

Check Rightmove. I find it very easy and on point for house hunting. Also unless I’m mistaken you will need to pay the aforesaid ‘funny’ charges oh.. especially if it’s a standard/reputable housing agency.

Other than that check gumtree for private sellers in which case keep your fingers crossed that all goes well.

join your private neighbourhood street/ nextdoor forum and you normally get direct adverts from the landlords. That way you wouldn't pay any charges.

don't use post office or john lewis....when i tried changing $1,000 at john lewis, Oxford street, was treated as if all my money was fake and each bill was scrutinised over and over and eventually they only offered to change $400....so i left and saw a roadside shop, which looked like a pawn shop and they didn't even bat an eye changing+ sweet rates

My husband (brit) wants to invite&sponsor my brother over for the holidays for two weeks. I told him to use his salary account so that they will see his salary entering, then he can move like £2k from his savings to the salary account for my brothers trip. But I’m worried about two things:

-hubby has an overdraft, is that a red flag?

-my bro’s account isn’t buoyant. I do send him money and will start sending him double (£200 monthly) from next month to beef his account. I’m worried that they will say it’s not enough, even though he is being sponsored. I want him to apply in Nov/Dec.

Also must he apply for a 6 month visa? Can’t he apply for 1 year so that the visa will allow him come back to the Uk in July for the summer.

yes people do get bankrupt, they file for bankruptcy but at least they alive to do so. But the truth of the matter ,government still pay a good portion of healthcare in the US. The problem with this universal health care is that not truly universal. If you have basic problem or generally health then it's fine, but if you have special condition then its horrible. That's why you see Canadians crossing into the border to get healthcare but less wait time and more specialized doctors. We a lot of specializations here , its not even funny that of the money being spent.

Your brother will have to explain the source of his income even if he earns the minimum wage and also state how much he receives in support from you or others. Why does your husband want to move money from his savings since the money is going to be used to buy tickets and other expenses? He could as well get two statements from his bank showing income and savings. There is nothing that stops him from applying for a longer term visa (2 years I believe is the next available one).

The biggest guarantee of getting a visiting visa are - :

1 - Strong ties in Nigeria
2 - Been a grandma or grandpa

He works full time in a permanent position. Yeah he will explain that he is just moving it. If it’s easier he will submit the two statements but what I know is that his salary account is actually the account they care about (proof of earnings that tally with his payslips) in an easily accessible account.

I was questioning the need to move money between accounts. All he should do is show his savings (money for sponsoring the trip), which must be in his account for at least 3 months (not sure) and 6 months’ pay slips as proof of employment. Moving it will not be necessary.
There's no 1 yr visa, you either apply for 6 months, 2 yrs, 5yrs or 10yrs visa.
