Thanks a lot for all the input/feedback. Read each comment and will take it under advisement. My confusion came from the fact that the online reviews of the Citroen C4 which I like has mixed reviews but my cousin in this UK said he has been using his for 2 years without issue. And he bought an old model fairly used one. So it’s a case of experience vs online reviews Which is meant to be the same thing Anyhoo I will sha check all the indices and decide with Oga. Thanks a lot to everyone who commented. I appreciate it. |

Mamatukwas: I love the Citroen, personally. I think Vauxhall is a good brand though. |

Guys, Recently did my theory driving test and it was great- passed it well in one sitting- Lol very proud of myself Anyway, I may not be nosing the car driving test just yet because it seems taking the train to work might be better for me. Train to work = 20 mins. Me driving = 50 mins to 1hour. So I’m not too sure it’s worth it driving now especially as the weather has been surprising marvellous to us. Maybe when the cold comes I’ll change my mind. |

Hi guys. Please can someone direct me to where in London I can exchange dollars for pounds? For a reasonable exchange rate. I'm not sure if I can do that at Heathrow airport when I arrive. Your input will be well appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Please guys I need help, so finally I have moved to the uk and I am stuck with getting an accomodation, as my family would soon be moving over and i need to leave the hospital accomodation for a bigger one, how can I go about it? These agencies have funny charges and requirements i dont understand. |
Re: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by Mamatukwas: 1:48pm On Aug 22, 2018 |
mumynoella: Check Rightmove. I find it very easy and on point for house hunting. Also unless I’m mistaken you will need to pay the aforesaid ‘funny’ charges oh.. especially if it’s a standard/reputable housing agency. Other than that check gumtree for private sellers in which case keep your fingers crossed that all goes well. Cheers. |

mumynoella: join your private neighbourhood street/ nextdoor forum and you normally get direct adverts from the landlords. That way you wouldn't pay any charges. 2 Likes 1 Share |

don't use post office or john lewis....when i tried changing $1,000 at john lewis, Oxford street, was treated as if all my money was fake and each bill was scrutinised over and over and eventually they only offered to change $400....so i left and saw a roadside shop, which looked like a pawn shop and they didn't even bat an eye changing+ sweet rates |

What a lot of people don’t realise is that you get some of the best rates from the post office. I didn’t realise until I watched the money program Martin Lewis show. |

Hi guys, My husband (brit) wants to invite&sponsor my brother over for the holidays for two weeks. I told him to use his salary account so that they will see his salary entering, then he can move like £2k from his savings to the salary account for my brothers trip. But I’m worried about two things: -hubby has an overdraft, is that a red flag? -my bro’s account isn’t buoyant. I do send him money and will start sending him double (£200 monthly) from next month to beef his account. I’m worried that they will say it’s not enough, even though he is being sponsored. I want him to apply in Nov/Dec. Also must he apply for a 6 month visa? Can’t he apply for 1 year so that the visa will allow him come back to the Uk in July for the summer. Bro isn’t working (just doing small contracts for the govt) so no strong ties to Nigeria. Should I be worried? I need you peoples experiences on inviting your families here, that’s why I’m not asking in the uk visit group. I’ll still go there to find out all the docs my bro will need. Thanks 1 Like |

Aphrodite007: Your brother will have to explain the source of his income even if he earns the minimum wage and also state how much he receives in support from you or others. Why does your husband want to move money from his savings since the money is going to be used to buy tickets and other expenses? He could as well get two statements from his bank showing income and savings. There is nothing that stops him from applying for a longer term visa (2 years I believe is the next available one). |
Re: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by Lexusgs430: 10:39am On Aug 23, 2018 |
Aphrodite007: The biggest guarantee of getting a visiting visa are - : 1 - Strong ties in Nigeria 2 - Been a grandma or grandpa If he is presently not working or on a part time contracting schedule, it's a massive negative against his application. If you beef up his account, he would need to explain source of that income. So beefing, does not help...... 2 Likes |
Re: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by Aphrodite007(f): 1:32pm On Aug 23, 2018 |
dustydee: He is moving money so there won’t be any need for two statements. I know the important account is his salary account (full time job) so I told him to move the money from his other account there. Applicants are advised not to buy tickets until they get the visa, so the money in the account is meant to contain the flight ticket and expenses for the two weeks he will be here. Thanks, I’ll target the one year visa then and my brother will explain the source of his income. |
Re: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by Aphrodite007(f): 1:39pm On Aug 23, 2018 |
Lexusgs430: He works full time in a permanent position. Yeah he will explain that he is just moving it. If it’s easier he will submit the two statements but what I know is that his salary account is actually the account they care about (proof of earnings that tally with his payslips) in an easily accessible account. Thanks for the response though |
Re: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by dustydee: 3:07pm On Aug 23, 2018 |
Aphrodite007: I was questioning the need to move money between accounts. All he should do is show his savings (money for sponsoring the trip), which must be in his account for at least 3 months (not sure) and 6 months’ pay slips as proof of employment. Moving it will not be necessary. There's no 1 yr visa, you either apply for 6 months, 2 yrs, 5yrs or 10yrs visa. |
Re: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by DaveChapelle: 4:29pm On Aug 23, 2018 |
do you have any idea how much minimum is decent enough to put in applications for? |
Re: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by Lexusgs430: 4:57pm On Aug 23, 2018 |
DaveChapelle: This is totally dependent on loads of factors... Applicant A can have N0.00 on their bank statement and get visa. While applicant b has N2Million and not get the visa........... |
