Ibadan was a small remote Egba town 90 miles south of Oyo-Ile - the capital of the Old Oyo Empire.

Ibadan only grew in population after the sacking and pillaging of Oyo-Ile and this was due to the convergence of refugees from all over the empire due to the scourge of the Fulani jihadist.
