Daviddson: It is because they are leftist thugs and traitors who will kill their own in other to get political power. Empty barrels make the loudest noise. I wonder why insults, hate and derogatory remarks are propagated and tolerated on Nairaland. On Reddit they are mostly deleted and banned. In fact news about Nigeria on Reddit is more positive than on Nairaland. They are making the same mistakes because insults do not win elections. If you think you are better than the present administration, tell us why and convince us. 1 Like |

itu404: The above crap is one reason Nigerian in particular and Africa in general shell remain a backwater. Nigeria is a complete joke when viewed from the prism of developing countries. I did not write developed countries because it be a matter silly attempt at idiocy to do so. Until the people who presently occupy the shithole called Nigeria arrive at the first gate of unity not united or union, the scene of development shall remain a mirage. |

ogtavia: Oil should be a bonus for us not as the only major source of income.the real wealth of a country is created through human capital development.we produce 2 million barrels of oil per day and with all the corruption is the country and stealing of the little money we have as a country that is why we became the country with highest number of people living is poverty . Case study, Norway has less than 5 million people and they produce 1.7 million barrels of oil per day and they never depend full on oil. Norway budget is is 199 billions dollars, they have electricity , high human development capital index, good education system, good road and infrastructure ,no corruption and my country with over 160 million, our budget is less than 30 billion dollars corruption , bad road , no electricity , bad education , low human capital development, no security. Nigeria is a poor country by all standard. 4 Likes |

ogtavia: exactly India now is better than India of 15 years ago Can we say same of Nigeria? Their economy has grown, they have Bangalore, they have improved their health care in such a way that people from across the world now throng there for affordable treatment Even India ranks too 10 in the number of international students in their universities What progress can we really say we have made as Nigerians in the last 15 years? Even this govt has made things too too bad 3 Likes |

ChiefAzubuike: Do you listen to the news at all? Nigeria has more poor people than India - World poverty Clock. Let everyone just pause for a minute, take a deep breath and let it sink in! India a country whose population is 6x our population has less people in absolute poverty than ours. Inida's population, 1.3bn people. Nigeria's population, 200m at most. https://punchng.com/with-87m-poor-citizens-nigeria-overtakes-india-as-worlds-poverty-capital/ This has everything to do with the extremely weak federation we have been operating since the class of '66 seized the reins of power in this country. |

High poverty level is worrisome. Or it should, because poverty comes along with many effects; hunger and starvation, lack of access to quality health care, education, opportunities, high crime rate and a host of other social, economic, environmental, health problems, etc. All these are glaring and undeniable in our Nigerian society. Corruption, mismanagement( both in the system and in our individual lives)illiteracy, lack of education, conflict and crisis, all have in no little measure left us in the rut. It is important we explore every means necessary to make progress. We must consider that an imperative.
