On a grey, cloudy afternoon in March, a dozen students at the Anthony campus of the Lagos State University (LASU) huddled around a notice board. Pasted on the board, propped against a wooden bench on the floor, were the final year results of two departments – the 2003/04 and 2007/08 batches of students in Mass Communication and Economics Departments respectively. https://googleweblight.com/i?u=https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/4862-lasu_killing_the_dreams_of_its_students.html&hl=en-NG 2 Likes 1 Share

“Before I came in, we had some people that came in 2002 and some of them just got their results last two years. Even up till date, like 90 per cent of them have not received their certificates,” said Julius Adeoye, a 500-level student of the Department of Literature and English. What the Hell! Now i know there's just only one good state university in Nigeria - KWASU. The rest are next to thrash. 11 Likes |

Isn't it supposed to be "her students" instead of "its students"? Even I am confused. 1 Like |

LuciferChristi:"Her" sounds more appropriate when referring to humans. However "its" is a possessive pronoun and is still correct. But i would rather let the title be as Premium times(the source) puts it. 2 Likes |

LuciferChristi:I didn't say otherwise. I meant 'her' would have been better since the topic referenced institution/students and not objects. Now since humans, institutions and objects are all nouns then 'its' and 'her' are both very much correct... But people here don't like to be referred as 'it' so i understand your initial objection. But it doesn't mean the title was wrong either. Wo Ogbeni anyone you like pls put... 9 Likes |

With 10 satellite campuses spread across the state – eight on the mainland and two on the island – and a student population of more than 70,000. Are all the satellite campuses still in operation? Dun think so. 1 Like 1 Share |

LASU is a glorified secondary school! Whether that has changed; i do not know but from 1997 - 2002, this is all it was. I was in the pioneer set of students who moved from Ojo campus to the Epe campus which was a former military barracks. It was a sh*thole. We did not see any results from 100 level 1st semster till 2nd semester 200 level. All the results were released at once in the 1st semester of 300 Level and all students were required to register all their carry overs before registering departmental courses! The Chemical lab was a converted garage thing with no furniture only a fume cupboard. The lecturers... let me not go there. 1 Like |

LuciferChristi:'Her' is used when you're referring to an institution, country or whatever that is dear to you, that you hold in high esteem. It is just a way of dignifying, honouring or respecting such institution. 'Its' is possessive pronoun that is used generally for anything. whether institution or non living things |
