till today, no picture of me on my NYSC attire anywhere. Those hustling photographers in camp took some jungle rope climbing and other pictures, went to collect them after hostel friends said they saw pictures of me around. Guess what, got there and the dude added just 100 naira to the amount I planned to spend at most, I didn't even argue, Just waltzed out. Now I could very top my budget with the 100naira.
Just didn't want any photos plus the whole thing sounded so cliche. You go to camp, come home and everyone is looking at the pictures like one big thing.
I got back and my sisters are like where are your pictures?
Me: what pictures?
Conversation ends and they all settled it with the expected
"thank God you're home safe"
For good reasons, I camped in the North East.

I thought the whole interest ended with my siblings.
Not so with friends, one even goes on to say:
"**** you sure say you go camp so?"
But who cares?

If there are no pictures, you were just suffering in the camp; that is why you choose to ignore the memory. I went there with my camera and I enjoyed the mammy market more than the parade ground.

not really, I never really looked forward to the camp(my mom dying months before was probably a factor MAYBE) but generally I never did want any of the paraphernalia that comes with NYSC.
My sisters were different though, when they returned home from Camp, you could even sniff NYSC at our home. That said, everyone enjoys the mammy... Though I was only there for the fruits(sugarcane especially) which of course they had in abundance.
Gaskiya, those were my favorite moments.

Sorry about the loss of your mom at such a critical moment on your timeline. I went prepared for my NYSC, well-prepared. Armed with Camera and formed my crew then. Spent more time drinking at mammy market at Ede High School, Osun State. After the camp, me and my crew visited Bisi Akande then at his home, I went to Tafa Balogun's home, saw all the brand new cars covered up in his compound. A white marbled fortress in the middle of no-where called 'Ila Oragun'. Due to my strategies, I had my accommodation paid for by politicians, was provided with mattresses, beddings and every home equipments for free at VIP politician's residence with even a girlfriend with tribal marks that taught me a little Yoruba. Even free transportation to the PPAs daily when I decided to go loiter around the school searching for ladies to hang my hands around their shoulders.

Was fun, still miss those days of calculated freebies.

You must design enjoyment into every template of life, irrespective of nature's Bleep-ups. And nature can sabi Bleep one up at a prime time one is supposed to merry.

Mine was different.....I worked my ass out even on free days (CDS) and being always ready to help, mhen I was used there. It's all gone now. I think I'm better for it

I still miss those days, I truly do. The days one had no responsibilities and was just riding on the waves of time. I was assigned to teach in a College of Education but I am sure I lectured less than 5 times through out my NYSC days. We spent a greater moment of our days with the Palm Wine tappers at the bushes, getting the freshest wine, and eating bush meats directly from the staples of the hunters.

At the end of the service year, the lecturers ganged up against me, and the head of the school though he loved me dearly was forced not to sign my clearance. I forged the damn thing and got an artist to design a stamp for me, which I stamped the forged clearance.

I approached our Zonal Inspector etc in company of very beautiful ladies and got them totally distracted while I hand in my forged clearance and got my NYSC certificate. The school was so sure I will repeat the service year or even serve 6 months more before getting my certificate. But were shocked when I called one of my lecturer friend at Osun State to tell them the next day, that I am at VI already enjoying my moments

I have always been a pretty much of a very bad good guy. Even the ladies were happy to be introduced while the State officials were excited to meet beauties.

I cant forget how adventurous I was, I still am. I love out-smarting authorities, almost always.

By the way, I hope you enjoy reading about my adventures at NYSC. The photographs bring back those great memories.
