gidieberry: I agree, the pull OnePlus is enjoying is the near stock android experience. The day xiaomi launches a flagship with near stock Android with little customisations and global LTE bands, OnePlus would be in big trouble. As it is the Poco F1 is a big headache for them. Would be interesting how they will justify a price tag of $550 for the op6T as xiaomi were very wise in launching POCO this early basically undercutting all rivals. 1 Like |

Re: The Xiaomi Thread. by 2kurupt(m): 4:04pm On Aug 31, 2018 |
gidieberry: Correct. In addition to that OnePlus is only riding on the strength of its sister company OPPO which has a stronghold in China. They can't really match Xiaomi's pricing and market segmentation strategy which is why their phones in recent times are not really as affordable unlike the early releases & also having very lean product portfolio |

macbeyland:Saw similar stuff with a Redmi note 5a prime some days back, bootloader showing locked but when rebooting, it was showing unlocked. I already unlocked the bootloader some months back and was surprised to see it was showing locked when viewed from developer options. Well I still went ahead and rooted the phone since TWRP was already flashed, there shouldn't be a problem flashing customer roms too I believe, though haven't done any research regarding this. |

but lets get sometin straight oo,i never compared oneplus to xiaomi,i said oneplus has a good business strategy, which is working great for them, What i meant:a small company, produces limited amount of phones for a certain period, sells all they produce,no space for excess or wastage,6 months later comes out with another banging deal, the previous model wud be so so scarce and limited that the price wud even be expensive than there latest product. By october now, oneplus sites wud start lacking supllies of oneplus 6,it wud be out of stock, its only resllers that wud hav fot sale at a crazy price, thats wen u know the 6tea is coming.. This has bin working very well for them. 1 Like |

Re: The Xiaomi Thread. by 2kurupt(m): 4:23pm On Aug 31, 2018 |
Elxandre: That's actually OnePlus' strategy. I think Xiaomi has moved past that. Xiaomi intends not to exceed 5% annual profits for its hardware unit which includes mobile phones. When the 5% profit is attained, it intends to give back to the customers thru one way or the other. Herein lies the secret to Xiaomi's hyper rate of product introduction coupled with aggressive pricing. So I believe this means Xiaomi can afford to even introduce a smartphone selling at its cost price to end-users provided it has exceeded its projected 5% profit margins for the year SOURCE https://www.google.com.ng/amp/s/amp.ft.com/content/150e3d34-4875-11e8-8ee8-cae73aab7ccb https://www.google.com.ng/amp/s/m.businesstoday.in/lite/story/xiaomi-limits-profit-margin-at-5/1/275635.html |

Re: The Xiaomi Thread. by 2kurupt(m): 4:31pm On Aug 31, 2018 |
noobody: This strategy is well & good but restrictive and will only get them to a certain extent. If indeed they want to be world players then they must do brick and mortar stores. This is why Xiaomi is now launching in Europe not just via online retailers but opening physical stores. Once they achieve striking a deal with major mobile network companies for phone contract deals in addition to complete regional bands, no other Chinese company will catch them. 1 Like |

Re: The Xiaomi Thread. by fibonacci2526: 4:42pm On Aug 31, 2018 |
2kurupt: I think OnePlus is still doing well as an online company but like you said they might need to reverse that idea long term. There is a rumor that they might be partnering with T-Mobile for the launch of OP6T which is a big deal to be honest. We will sit back and watch how these OEMs fight tooth and nail, competition is good and long may it continue. |

noobody:despite been a small company their business strategy as elaborated by u n corroborated by fibonacci2526 make sure they are keeping a healthy profit margin.. Wen u think of oems like Sony, HTC and LG as well, size wunt matter dt much... |
Re: The Xiaomi Thread. by noobody(m): 5:01pm On Aug 31, 2018 |
gidieberry: Now u r getting my point,i didnt want to go fully into ecn terms,it wud sound like jargons to most, As long as cost is bin covered, and deh r making profit, The rest na story, Thou i know dey aspire to go bigger, But that level of playing field, mehn, odikwa risky oo Even lg at point confessed, activities of smaller chinese companies don hurt there biz so so much, what is drill keeping samsung as kings till tmao is that they are innovative and giv you value for your 1k$ aka note 9 That is the first 1k $ fone the whole world wud come togeda as a whole say it is worth there 1k,specs and build worth am die |
Re: The Xiaomi Thread. by gidieberry(m): 5:09pm On Aug 31, 2018 |
noobody:to add futher, earlier this yr, LG mobile pulled out of china patapata.. Of recent, samsung market share in china is less dan 1% i think.. Android oems are suffering small cauz lotta players in a saturated market, Samsung is already at d pinnacle.. Oda oems have to b smart or else they might not even break even relating to cost n revenue |

Re: The Xiaomi Thread. by 2kurupt(m): 5:22pm On Aug 31, 2018 |
noobody: Good points there. Plz lemme digress, talking about the $1k flagship I've been wondering with the steady upward review of flagship retail prices, how further can the OEMs really go? Especially with midrange & upper midrange getting better and better on each release. Projections show that flagship sales are declining in favour of the 2 sub-tiers. This I think is why LG and HTC are badly hit since they hardly have a midsection in their product portfolio. 2 Likes |

2kurupt: Yes you are right, that is why samsung keeps going the extra mile to make there prices worth it.... And dey wud need to do more next year But still,a flagship experience is like no other, Pray somone doesnt lend u his samsung s9+ to use for a week You wud ask, abeg wetin be xiaomi sef |
