Amechi wants to change the culture of Rivers state. He want a better role model for the youth.

Rivers state have been ruled by thugs who grow through cultism to become Governors,Senators etc. Amechi, Wike,.Abe, Dakuku are product of growing through the street with alot of evil, cultism and thuggery to get to where they are .

As a result many rivers youth believe they will become successful by following thier footstep.

By endorsing Tonye Cole, Amechi want to change the narrative. He want a rivers state govern by technocrat and professional. People who can think beyond gangster politics like himself,Wike,Abe,Dakuku etc.

I think the progress and success of lagos, Anambra and recently Edo have thought Amechi that professionals are better manager of state than lifetime street politicians.

Obiano was a professional banker when Peter Obi made him a governor. We can see the progress in Anambra.

In edo state Obaseki was a professional investment banker when Oshiomole brought him to edo state to manage the economy and the state . Today, Edo state is becoming the most investment friendly state in Nigeria since Obaseki became Governor.

If Amechi succeed to make Tonye Cole Governor of rivers state, that will be a major cultural shift in River state. It will promote interest in Education and legitimate lifestyles in River state among the youth.
if you don't know what to say about Rivers state politics.. U better keep your mouth shut. What sort of gibberish did u wrote up there YOU MADE NO SENSE.

Why do you guys lie to fit the narrative?

Edo state? Investment friendly? Wtf! Edo is in massive debts thanks to Oshiomole.

And No, he didn't present Obaseki because he was an investment banker but because he was dumb and won't speak out.. Loyalty bought!

Manufacturers relocate from Delta State to Edo, cite reforms
adekunle adekunle

The positive disposition of the Godwin Obaseki-led administration in Edo State towards a private sector-led economy and the elimination of barriers to business through reforms, are pulling businesses from neighbouring Delta State.

According to manufacturers, the exodus of companies to Edo State from Delta State is happening on the back of the growing investor confidence, which in turn is a factor of the ease with which business owners are conducting their activities in Edo State, devoid of man-made encumbrances that impact their bottom line in Delta State.

To be honest, this selection will be very strong for Wike for 3 reasons;

1. Wike support base in 2015 was largely riverine areas due to Jonathan/PEJ sentiments that spread. At the moment there seem to be a shift on that, same riverine is now agitating for their own.

2. In Rivers politics whoever controls the centre usually end up winning the state. There is usually voters apathy which opens door for rigging through federal might.

3. Amaechi is desperate to repay Wike the loss he suffered in 2015.

That said, I think Wike has to do what Udom is doing. He has to carry people along in politicking and up his game.

Let me also add that APC Chairman in Rivers is a suspected "strongman" with murder cases over his head.

My brother, people like Tonye Cole (unlike that I'd.iot called Dakuku).

Also, the agitation of powershift to Riverine (which Amaechi promised in 2011) might also be a strong factor that will sway the votes of our people there.

N/B Riveriners were with Wike in 2015!

I think Wike may have to change his Deputy for 2019 and bring a strong Riveriner as running mate instead of the present Ipalibo Banigo, who can't even influence her husband and children not to talk of riverine areas. He has to pledge to support a riverine person in 2023 (if he should win). But on a flip side, how many people trust promises of politicians? Beside, a bird at hand is worth more than a billion in the air.

Amaechi has done 2 key things; choice of APC Chairman and now APC candidate.

My brother, make I no lie you ehn, PDP should go back to drawing board

I personally think all successful business men should take some cue from Dangote and stay away from Nigerian politics except you are willing to always come out to defend it.

Besides, APC cannot win Rivers until 2023 after Wike 's tenure and if they win the Presidential seat come 2019; only then can they defeat Wike's imposed successor - trust me, Wike would do a Fayose in 2019 - and they are managing to spread their tentacles into the SS, seeing as political big wigs are fast decamping from that region.

But Donald Trump is a successful business man.
Don't you know the decisions of all the tour called governors contribute either negative or positive to businesses.

Under the nose of Uche Secondus, PDP is losing its strong hold.

To make things worse, he's the PDP chairman and that's his territory.

Under the nose of Wike, PDP is losing another state.

With his gragra, I can't wait to see the expression on his face when he loses the state to APC.

It was done in Ekiti, Rivers is next!

Any APC governorship candidate in Rivers should be ready to be Governor already.

And looking at the candidature of Tonye Dele-Cole, it's a done deal already.

APC spokesman, the general election will be different.
There will be no Daura, nor 50000 police per state.

I just don't want to believe this report or story. Amaechi might be trying to deflect attention from his preferred candidate, Dakuku peterside .

I'm thinking, needed someone to stand against wike for now. If wike wins and finishes his term , he'd now present Dakuku as the candidate for 2023. It will be bad for Dakuku to lose twice to wike in a row and come back in 2023. People would have grown tired of him by then. So, he needs to take a break for now.

I just laugh at how people on nairaland ignorantly comment on terrain they don't understand. Amaechi has calculated wrongly again.
Look at the voting strength of Rivers state, ikwerre has almost 50%, seconded by ogoni, then lightly Kalabari etche, okrika, but also the orashi region control the votes in the rivers west where Kalabari belongs.
Wike understands the voting pattern of the state and is not perturbed by the Tonye Cole development. Unless APC write result as they have boasted, then it's a goal for wike.
If APC had settled for Magnus Abe, ogoni people vote like sheep. They tilt towards one side, Magnus would have collected ogoni, and struggle for ikwerre and other votes to hit 51%.
The ratio of votes between upland and riverine is about 70:30. I remember AK Horsefall telling Kalabari and riverine people to seek governorship through senatorial district arrangement cos the upland and riverine basis will make them forever not able to see government house.
The game will change now, Magnus will go to PDP and get senatorial ticket cos amaechi has vowed not to let him go back, then give him support. We are on ground and know what it's all about.
Tonye Cole is disadvantaged cos Rivers people are sentimental. He was not born in the state, not grown in the state and doesn't understand the people. Secondly, Kalabari politics is toxic. Abonema person will not support buguma vice versa. It's been on for years as they battle ethnic supremacy.

Your largely correct but you forgot something.barcanista pointed out something about voting.people dont vote much in rivers, what decides the winners are those who have the rigging capacity.pdp had monopoly of rigging until buhari was elected.its now tilting towards apc.wike can still win narrowly but votes in presidential polls will be shared.
Saying that ikwerre has the largest voting capacity is true on face value but practically false.90% of the voters in ikwerre land are non indigenes, you know that.in a free and fair poll, few people turn up.pdp has taken advantage of this to always allocate over 200,000 votes to themselves in obio akpor and ph lgas consistently.during election periods, move around and see whether you will see up to 20,000 voters.the last rerun and ph bye polls revealed a lot about voters turnout in rivers.but on other lgas outside ikwerre, majority of the voters are indigenes and come out more.finally, magnus cannot go to pdp because wike will never allow him takeover.for the same reason amaechi doesnt want him.
I think if tonye picks his deputy from ogoni,it will be huge
