Thanks Bro.

For me to work as optometrist in UK I was told I needed to register with General optical council. To do that there's a prereg program that I will do for 12month minimum -2years 3month under 5tiers sponsorship visa. After the completion of the program and I passed the exam I will be allowed to register then have to return to Nigeria to apply for job for me to be under tier 2 visa. Please can I apply for tier 2 visa while I'm still in UK?

My people, I have gist o.

So I work in a bank. I was always so happy to teach my colleagues how to pronounce Nigerian names, or just point out that a customer they are working on is of Nigerian descent.

I just got moved to another department and Lord knows that shame have finish me! I’m now in collections- debt management, where you work on people that owe money to the bank or defaulted on loan/credit card payments.

Is it safe for me to safe that every 3 in 10 cases I work on is a Nigerian? Like why? Why borrow money if you won’t return it. By the time I got to the 8th Nigerian defaulter, I was so disgusted!

Nigerians in the UK are lucky to have credit card schemes and affordable loans. It’s OK to finance things you can/can’t afford straight up. But NO, it’s not ok to borrow money and not pay back. Haba. 3 in 10 cases of default payments being Nigerian? I’m so ashamed.

Like when I hear colleagues struggling to pronounce Nigerian names, I mind my business o- let them think the person is from another African country, not my own country!

Thank God my name no de there, cos even you for no fit pronounce my name. Something says I should come and borrow self considering I may get away with it because my name is difficult to pronounce.
On a serious note, still wondering why people delight in igbese. I've been tagged an alien at work cos I refused to take this £3000 loan usually given to new staff. They say its my entitlement but I'm wondering why they won't dash me the money. They say my eyes go soon open that I can't survive here without borrowing, till then. How will I Just collect money I don't need.

Why not try exchanging it in Nigeria, before departing?

Chief got a free accommodation 1hr:50mins from my academy in London. Is it doable travelling that distance daily, or staying close to the academy.

Did you say free accommodation? Only 1hr 50 minutes? By the time you weigh cost of accommodation, even 3 hours journey, would be doable.......

Stay at the free accommodation initially, weigh cost and time of travel vs staying close by...... Then decide which is best, your pocket or time.........

You can apply for a job while still in the UK, once made an offer with sponsorship, you can return to Nigeria to apply for the visa.

1:50 minutes...by train or Coach?

How many times a week do you need to travel?

You don't want to 'save' from accommodation, and spend much more on transport do you?

It's very doable oo. Cost of accommodation and maintenance in London isn't a joke. And considering you are spending naira.

You can get an oyster card which travels to the between the zone of the academy and your accommodation.

I know for certain close to the academy on accommodation you will spend £140/wk then feeding and others will be up to you as well.
Weigh all the options and all the best in your exam.

My dear! It’s real discipline o. It’s sad how people spend what they can’t afford to pay back. If they were in Nigeria that they had little to no loan options, would they die?

Even me with my credit card, I didn’t know that credit score is also dependent on how much of your card you use.

I’ve been maxing out my card and clearing it soon as I get my bill. I thought the act of clearing the whole thing was gonna improve my score, I didn’t know I’m not meant to spend more than 20% of my credit limit. Was so annoyed when I checked my score and saw that I dropped to fair!

So from this month baba, I won’t use any more than £200 on my card. I don’t need credit, I just need the score! I’ve learned my lesson grin

You work in a bank and you and I know that HP is one of the worst deals, but it is dressed up to look nice. You are better off just getting a cheap loan from the bank or better still pay for the car you can afford. But no " Mr Adeleke did thanksgiving in church with his new 18reg car, next month I must get 68reg at all cost". This is the mentality of most Nigerians they don't even read the documents properly before signing cos of excitement. by the time the find out about the gbese its too late and then they start to struggle, robing peter to pay Paul.

Please always read the small print , if unsure don't sign.

Exactly at bolded in this country that you sign a lot of document, one has to be careful about the details and as they say the devil is in that details.

If not for credit score there is absolutely no need for CC because you and up paying it out of your income and not like you have awoof money that can enter when you least expect it except for the contractors here sha grin grin

For anyone still battling with naija passport and it's renewal. Pls start the processing and appt booking early because spaces gets filled up quickly.

Applied in July and the only date available was from mid-September. The application processes sef get as e be but at least they tried to explain it in details on there page. Though it could be less cumbersome if reviewed.

Maxing out, simply translates to the borrower using their cards as the main source of income, which indirectly translates to any changes in circumstances, spelling inability to pay debt back etc etc etc

Which inturn would put borrower in an adverse credit circle and the sequence continues.......

Hahaha! You spoke well! Me I don’t joke with Ts&Cs when it comes to banks o, see how the PPI saga is still on, I make sure I read everything.

But then again, I don’t blame them entirely. Some people don’t understand business and finance, so they get caught up with it blows out. Me I’ll make sure my kids understand everything business or finance inclined. My husband also suffered from that ignorance when he was young, now he is paying for it. Dunno why they don’t teach these stuff in schools. If not for nairaland and @lexus et al. I for enter gbese too.

I guess that’s for majority of the people but not me. I use my credit card more because of laziness.

I don’t spread my payments so technically it’s a debit card because I pay all at once. I just preferred to see my current account grow from not spending on it, then I offset the credit card bills when I feel like.

Like I literally don’t even wait for the due date to pay my credit card bills. I make sure I have 3x my credit limit in my current account. So if this is the perception of banks (that maxing my credit card means inability to pay back) then fine, I have already decided to go back to using my debit card sef.

Like I said before, I’ve learned a lot. Now I’ll just keep my credit card for decoration and go back to using my debit card because all I care about is my score.

Me I don’t have patience for those Nigerian High Comm staff. I know what they did to me one time I wanted to emigrate to Canada. I plan on timing my passport renewal to when I’ll travel to Nigeria for holidays. I have people I will just tip and they will get it done in a day or two, with me relaxing in my house. I can’t come and die please!
