I disagree.... why do you say erroneously? Not everyone has the time to start doing updates manually to avoid one thing or the other. Most people just want straight up updates instead of having to grapple with vendors installing fake roms (not you or others here).

Again most would want to their fones unrestricted for use on all networks. Like me I've been a Glo user for years and with 4G available on their network, it would be foolish of me not to take advantage of same hence I won't go for anything less than the compatible Global version.

I remember my Nokia XL back then, I had to tweak and flash roms just to get it to work the way I want. Not anymore will I want to stress that much.

Try and appreciate people's preference when it comes to marketing and don't try to convince them to go for choices other than what they want.

Re: The Xiaomi Thread. by bigtt76(f): 12:25pm On Sep 08, 2018
At how much? I know how much I got global version recently and it matched the cost for Chinese version (Global rom) being advertised here.

Nairaalander1:
yes, it will support OTA updates if left with the Chinese rom it came with na.

The issue here is that redmi 6pro doesn't have global rom and you should be damn sure that any seller that promises such is looking at a shop rom for you. No one gives what is non-existent na. You could have gotten it with the Chinese rom with playstore installed, uninstall all the Chinese apps that may come with it, they're useless as you have their English equivalents on playstore, download SwiftKey keyboard and you're smooth.
Next time, when you're not crystal sure of something, ask. Info is free here.

On moving out of the shop rom you have, I wouldn't know the test point method lavenderjade has been talking of because people have moved from shop rom to global rom in the past without test point.
However, you have no option of global rom as redmi 6pro doesn't have official global rom, for now at least
Official Chinese or custom roms are your options kiss
i feel you is to find how to revert to chinese rom now o

You got it all wrong, the only difference between Global and Global Rom ( Chinese version flashed with Global rom) devices is the LTE band 20 available in the Global Version. It is common knowledge that most Xiaomi devices don't suppose Glo band 28, so anyone deciding whether to buy Global version or Global Rom already should have that in mind. Xiaomi devices with Taiwanese version I know of are just the Redmi note 3 pro SE and the Note 5, others with Global support are the Mi note 2 and the Mi Mix 2s. It is actually true that most persons buy the Global version of Xiaomi devices ignorantly, because almost all won't even benefit from the added LTE band 20.

Re: The Xiaomi Thread. by bigtt76(f): 1:00pm On Sep 08, 2018
I understand the differences dear, but what I'm saying is if someone having all these in mind still persists on looking for one that supports his/her desired network, they shouldn't be discouraged into settling for one that does not meet their need.

If they prefer to buy a Global version over a Global Rom despite both not supporting Glo Band 28 ....allow them but don't see it as them making the choice erroneously or ignorantly it may be what they long for. Does this mean that if I currently have a Glo 4G SIM and I desire to upgrade my fone to a Xiaomi RN5, because of its non-support of Glo's 4G band, I should downgrade my SIM to 3G or subscribe to MTN because of its support? No.

If Taiwanese versions support the Glo Band, then why don't you stock it to give buyers wider option to select from? Don't offer them an alternate choice if it does not meet their requirement ....remember its their money and they may as well choose to spend it 'ignorantly' or 'erroneously' as you may want to term it, but let them be satisfied that they got what they want BUT did not meet their need.

In the past, I've seen people rushing to buy Blackberry phones but still go on to read their emails via the phones web browser ...those ones I would term ignorant of the enormous benefits a blackberry device has to offer.

Above me is someone who bought a Chinese Version with a shop rom installed (not from any seller here though) going through the stress of unlocking bootloader ....do you think a potential Xiaomi user reading all of these would still want to get a Chinese Version of the device over a Global Version? No except from trusted people here and that is after many others can vouch for them undecided

Of recent xiaomi don dey give users 720 hrs n some unlucky fellas 1150 hours wait for bootloader unlocking
one of the reasons i like the global rom self. On global version, U go need wait for about 2 weeks n still lose all files on the phone after unlocking bootloader, see wahala
Re: The Xiaomi Thread. by bigtt76(f): 1:28pm On Sep 08, 2018
Why would you lose all your files on Global version after unlocking bootloader? I thought Global version runs the same Global Rom? undecided I understand the wait period though.

that's where the ignorance part still comes to play, almost every one who is following xiaomi knows that a newly released xiaomi phone with global rom is likely going to be a shop rom, that's the problem the guy has. Redmi note 5 has been around for a while now so the whole fake rom thing is not there. I've been a victim of fake rom too i even paid extra for the so called global rom, but the whole lesson has been enlightening so far. To me and others who share the same view, paying about 10k to 15k for an lte band you may not use is like a waste. I'll rather buy a mi band or a mifi with the extra change

Bigtt76 I think you are misunderstanding the "erroneously" mentioned by Macbeyland. Newbies generally don't know about xiaomi's global ROM /version etc. Am sure if someone told them they can get the global ROM with just the exception of band 20 10-15k less than the global version, you will find 90% of people choosing the former. Like the redmi note 5 mentioned by acekid, the global ROM is very cheap now like 10-15k lesser than the global version and there is no fake/shop ROM with it.

Less than $170 will get you the global ROM (black) for the note 5 while the global version is about $200 for the same colour.

Trust me I understand clearly but i'm just trying to ensure newbies reading through this thread don't feel 'insulted' so to speak. When I was getting my first RN5 I didn't even know or care about supported bands or not until I stumbled on this thread and I must confess I was well enlightened by you all so no offence taken but we must be mindful of others just coming on board lest they be discouraged. grin kiss

some of us like to tinker with our phones a lot, some it's just for gcam, with Global rom version with an already unlocked bootloader it's a blessing grin now that xiaomi is dashing pple 2 weeks or 1 month to unlock bootloader
