What is actually happening in the Northeast?

Are military operations not successful?

We are taking too many steps backwards.

I was expecting the Buhari administration to invest in heavy equipment, more tanks, artillery and IFV, but none we have seen happen.

We are still using Jonathan era Tanks and IFVs.

My opinion, soldiers on ground are doing their best. You don't take knife to gun fights.

The regular troops find it hard to sustain a heavy attack without the help of specialized units.

https://guardian.ng/news/boko-haram-captures-nigerian-town/

In spite of Nigeria`s size, this faction of Bokoharm takes territory anyway. A dwaf rakes in front of the giant, forces his way into the giants living room and declares occupancy. What, you think dwaf is stupid enough to think he can keep the house? Explanation: bokoharam or dwarf are nuts or have big brother backup.

Is it overkill to suggest Nigeria reorients expectations from waging war on puppet terorits to waging war against puppet terrorist and master same as the Vietnamese did against puppeteer France at the onset then eventually puppeteer America? At least it does no harm to over prepare in the context of investing heavily in the Nigeria military and devising original local strategies informed by home advantage.

It may be counter intuitive (we think, how bad might things have been without joint effort of the neighbors) but we should consider dissolving the multinational force. Get rid of Chadian, Cameroonian, Niger forces from our territory and use the mony we spend on them on our military. What use except pethaps double agents do they serve. After all, killings, kidnapping and territorial gains, continue. The only progress we have made now in the NE seem to be decreasing suicide bombing and we did that by ourselves. If part of assembling the multinational forces was about keeping our enemy close so we can watch them, well that has faild since our intelligence services don't appear to be getting any intelligence on the source of the enemies power.

We need to shake things up somehow is what I mean.

It simply means troops on the ground are not getting the arms they need.

After all is said and done, this Buhari regime continues to show utter hopelessness in every sector of Nigeria.

Regulars seem to always bolt anytime there is a sustained attack. I don't know why this happens.

As for our bases, why do we not mine a given area all around our basses save for a strip that leads up to the main entrance? The mind area should be within barbed wire parameters and advertised by clear danger signs. All vehicles approaching on the strip of road that leads to the entrance of the base must stop, e.g, a hundred meters short of the bases entrance and a single individual dismounts and walks to the entrance in order to declare identity. All must be made aware of the new protocol and all should adhere to the prosidures at all time, solders of the base or not. Any vehicle/vehicles that dose not adhere to prosidure and approaches beyond the hundred mitrer point is fired upon by sentries at the base (the firing rounds would itself double as alert). A barrier flanked and manned by protected positions could be placed at the start of the hundred mitre point.

Buy which weapon? When the government have more ''important'' things to do with money(Conditional cash transfer to the masses).
Boko guys have overran Guduballi about few hours ago. Till these guys hit the very soul of F.C.T the guys in the corridors of power we keep on playing ten-ten with Nigerians. The billions of dollars CBN fined banks and MTN will soon be lodged in a suspicious account till we foget sbout the money.
That is why I supported the governors that resisted the idea of FG dipping their fingers in the ECA funds it will go down the drain kawai. What stops the FG from ordering the CBN to hand over at-least 1 billion dollars from the fine to the military to upgrade their hardwares, do we know how far such funds will go in this fight? I just tire for Nigeria matter.

Just like the previous government, this govt is too contented managing this war rather than bringing it to an end. I doubt if there is any town in Niger, Chad or Cameroon that BH currently occupies. Nigeria is the loose end. BH feels so comfy attacking our military bases rather than the neighbouring countries. This attack was carried out the same way our SF would have successfully raided BHT camp. They problably had prior information on how weak the base was.

NAF have their hands filled at this time of the year.

This time tomorrow, one would expect that gudumbali would be severely air raided.

The army/ground troops needs the airforce intervention in situation like these than more concentration given deep air-strike interdiction.

They also conduct thier own independent opps so they can’t always be there to bail out the army and provide CAS during an attack.
simple solution: approve and fasttract procurement of offensive air platforms for the army air wing (attack helos like the t-129), not silly light scout helicopters that generals will turn to battlefield Uber.

The speed with which the security forces lost control of strategic Gudumbali was striking.
Contacts say civilians were given heads up prior to the assault. Apparently streets were deserted and some were already moving outta town 3 days back

Nothing urgent seems to be done with regards to weapon acquisition.

Where are the pilots to fly and maintain an aircraft like the T-129 if the army buys them?

That helicopter seems to also have a lot of politics surrounding it, look at the Pakistani deal.

The light scout helicopters are very relevant, a minimum of 18 units armed with gun pods, rockets and ATGMs will be of better use than T-129's at this time.

The federal government needs to get serious with equipping the military. As it stands there doesn't seem like much has been done at all.

I guess its cheaper on the long run to allow the camp be raided by BHT and then subsequently carry out a well co-ordinated counter offensive to flush them out.

Three days notice is more than enough time to get the three arms of military prepare for an offensive.

The army graduated its first set of helicopter pilots in 2014, Asin 4 years ago.

The Chinese Z10 and Z19 have export variants and what about Denel Rooivalk, platforms are there, the money is there.

our problems are politics, greed and Incompetence, put the right man in charge of NA and watch that service thrive.

They have played politics with this war and lives of thousands of Nigerians.

We both know those helicopters won’t be configured for light attack, is it not Nigeria we are talking about ?

The T-129 is a very advanced helicopter platform. It's not an aircraft a new wing like the army's air wing can start from. It's for the Air Force.

I doubt the capability of South-Africa building the Rooivallk. With Chinese helicopters, there are serious operational doubts.

Light Scout Helicopters are currently our best bet for the army. Even without the helicopters, i can't see heavy equipments such as tanks or IFVs that have been purchased, none.

They had a Humint intelligence prior(3 days) to the attack according to three different source I have heard now.

The town was totally deserted when th people heard about the attack, what sort of intelligence do they need again.

It's just that our top brass as these lackadaisical attitude in carrying out there duties.
