Ops on halt for now. We're all geared up already waiting for the next action. I see you people love the SBS here, they're also ready.

AFSF personnels are there already to prevent further advancement by bokoharam and gather Intel. They're actually used like the USMC "first responders in critical situations"

I don't know what the army authority is doing. But the army HQ needs shake up, there been sleeping and clueless for long.

His it not the same terrain we complain about in raining is BHT using Toyota hilux to attack army formations. Some top red neck needs to be sacked angry

In these type of attack ; where was the NAF At least it most have lasted for hours before the town was taken ?

I will forever repeat this "never rely on ISR". Standard procedure, my boys conducted reconnaissance with our DJI drones immediately we arrived and a colonel here said the staging ground is safe.

Baba, it's always safe until boom.

Sounds like a bright idea but we are high on EGO at this present time.

Apparently we need to understand that the problem is never the fault of own troops.

The problem is if Eeben comes back, they'll be here equipments our oga have refused to buy.

Why not procure these equipments with the money and let them discharge their duty?

Eeben is a PMC. He has one goal, which is eliminate bokoharam from a specific area. This same thing will be replicated if you give some officers here the same equipment and support.

I'm sure you understand my point.

The military at Gudumbali knew that boko haram were coming as they received the intelligence report. They were prepared but only them knew what happened. The retreating army were directed by the NAF plane flying above on the safe path to follow. Na wa.

People complain like babies here sha. Fighting terrorist is not the same as fighting bandits.

If the military got info. 3 days before, the town was also deserted as at the time of the attack, the boys on ground were also asked to retreat and even directed out of the area by NAF plane and most of you think they know nothing about it?

It's not about the approach, the military cares about result.

All i see here is more like a Honeypot. You guys should relax abeg. We go hear story soon.

So what about the large cache of weapons and equipment left behind, from my sources BHT carted away with bounty of them.
We can't be fighting these jerkass like that. Indirectly harming bokoharam to fight and prolonging the fight.

Brother, you heard just like we all hear different things online. The truth of the matter is that we all believe when a military base is overrun weapons most be left behind.

What ever they left was nothing compared to what boko haram brought in. So its not really a big plus.

My opinion, soldiers on ground are doing their best. You don't take knife to gun fights.

The regular troops find it hard to sustain a heavy attack without the help of specialized units.

Like you are being robbed with guns and you are think the knife in your pocket will add to the robber's capability.

If those troops had the large cache of arms you claim they left, they wouldn't have retreated without a good fight.

I think you make sense plus if boko boys actually found a rich bounty as claimed, they'll never pass the opportunity of displaying their loot in the video they released yesterday.

If that's the case, is it it safe to say the base was abandoned because it was poorly manned and in order to save face the best option would be to abandon the base to avoid heavy casualty.

Three days is enough to prep serious air offensive.
True, if BH had captured some serious arms, by now they would be doing some bling bling showoff all over the internet by now.
But if there was three days HUMINT before the attack, then this is some serious flaws on their end.
We should be taking full advantage at this point to deal some serious blows.

Time and time again our base defence strategy has been exposed for being mediocre at best....I think the Army chiefs have had enough losses and taken the bold step of ordering a withdrawal rather than suffering severe losses time and time again.
I expect this to be norm for the time being until a more proficient bases can be built with layers of complex fortifications or a better base defence strategy is in place. Gumdumbali is a remote outstation and we must not forget the Army is massively stretched and our best trained units can never always be at hand when needed as they keep being rotated in and out of the theatre....same story with the air force......my own pain is the poor PR by the Army, once an attack like this happens they should strive to relay to the public first before "Twitter liars" and Islamist channels litter the entire web with gibberish, half-truths and outright lies...

All of you saying the army ordered withdrawal are forgetting that it’s thesame army that just recently returned IDPs to that Gurumbali promising them safety and security, so the same army withdrew from their positions and left civis to die or what ?

And if Indeed the army did withdraw, what the heck were Boko boys shooting PKMs and RPGs at in their video ?

This is serious let down. Sending civilians into a zone that is not safe is a dis-service to our people. It is obvious that the NE is not as safe as they want us to believe. The higher authorities are so much in a hurry to impress the public at the expense of innocent souls.

The military is overstretched
The IDP camps are overstreched
Resources are overstretched

Is there anything that is not overstretched in this country at this time?

Algerian1,how is the maintenance of your Su 30s going? AFAIK you have 2 squadrons of 24 and I know heavyweight double engines are maintenance hungry, especially Sues. Do you have your own indig spares manufacture or how do you keep them airborne? Have the Russians fulfilled their own after sales agreement? I ask cause generally they're very lax in this regard, ask nemesis8u the IAF experience with their own Sues!

THE Nigerian Air Force, yesterday, said it has destroyed structures and ammunition depot of the Boko Haram in Sambisa Forest.

Air Force spokesman, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola,in a statement, said the Air Task Force also destroyed the terrorists’ equipment at Alafa Yagayaga in Sambisa Forest as well as a suspected Boko Haram terrorists’ ammunition depot in Kusuma on the fringes of Lake Chad, Borno State.

“ The air strikes against Boko Haram terrorists at Alafa Yagayaga were targeted at structures within the settlement that had been identified via previous Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions to be rendezvous (RV) points for the insurgents,”t he statement said.

“Consequently, a combination of NAF fighter aircraft and helicopter gunships were detailed to carry out air interdiction on the locations, while the NAF ISR aircraft conducted Battle Damage Assessment (BDA). The attack platforms acquired the targets and took turns to attack the location, destroying the structures and killing most of the BHTs in the process.

“The few surviving Boko Haram terrorists, seen fleeing the area, were strafed and neutralized by the helicopter gunships.”

The Nigerian Army on Sunday said it had restored total nomalcy in Gundubala and environs with combined effort of troops of Operation Lafiya Dole deployed to the area. Newsmen report that scores of jihadists in gun trucks and various caliber of arms, stormed the town and engaged in fierce battle that lasted for many hours with the troops. Brig.-Gen. Texas Chukwu, Director Army Public Relations, who disclosed this in a statement in Maiduguri, said combined troops of 82 Division Task Force Brigade and 158 Task Force Battalion conducting Counter Insurgency Operations in North Eastern Nigeria, had encounter with Boko Haram insurgents in Gudumbali in Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State. “The encounter took place when the insurgents attacked the community, set some buildings ablaze and quickly withdrew from the community. However, no human casualty was recorded in the encounter. “The troops have regrouped and normalcy have been restored. The troops have also been reinforced with additional troops to dominate the general area. “It will be recalled that Gudumbali is one of the communities in Borno that were recently reoccupied by Internally Displaced Persons who had voluntarily returned to their ancestral homes. “The people of Gudumbali community and Guzamala Local Government in general are urged to remain calm and resilient as Operation Lafiya Dole troops tirelessly combat the terrorists. “They are also implored to maintain high level of vigilance and monitor strange faces to prevent fleeing Boko Haram terrorists from infiltrating and hibernating in their communities. “The good people of the North East are assured of the unalloyed resolve of troops of Operation Lafiya Dole to continue to combat the Boko Haram terrorists in the region,”Chukwu said. The Nigerian Army has released a statement.

It's a shame the Nigerian army could stoop to this level of telling fantasies and lies.

PRESS RELEASE

ARMY FOILS BOKO HARAM ATTACK IN GUDUMBALI BORNO STATE

1. Troops of Sector 3 Operation LAFIYA DOLE deployed at Gudumbali, Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday 17 September 2018 foiled an attempted attack by the Boko Haram terrorists on their location.

2. The insurgents who came to extort, terrorize law abiding citizens as well as to attack the military base in the town met a serious resistance by the gallant troops.

3. The troops also inflicted overwhelming casualty on the terrorists due to superior fire power while some of the terrorists fled to the fringes of Lake Chad.

4. Efforts are on by the troops to get other fleeing members of the terrorists group.

5. Addressing the troops, the Commander Sector 3 Brigadier General Uwem Bassey, while on the spot assessment visit to Gundumbali commended the troops and urged them to continue to remain courageous while confronting the insurgents.

They make it look like BH are armed bandits ravaging the town for food.
With all the footage on the internet one would expect a convincing narrative of what went down, instead it's the usual edit, copy and paste tactics.

The army can do better than this.

Sad what's happened. And for all our repeated mistakes, deploying jets or helicopters would not plaster over our deficiency on the ground.

Going by the evil residents of Gudumbali suffered in the past from the terrorists, they'll be more likely to have noticed and informed the army base of strange elements lurking in or at the outskirts of town days ahead of an attack. How did they then managed to still get routed...?

Hierarchy seems to be out of depth regarding a suitable solution and things looking like 1 step forward, 2 backwards.

Bokoharam tactics now is hit hard. Capture Ammunitions and fall out of the area. Gudumbali now under our control.

My question? Where did over 300 bokoharam go after the attack? If ISWAP can strike a whole local government, why can't the military on an offensive dislodge them out of their own location?

I'm only concerned about the stolen weapons. They're gearing up for something but who am I? Just a WC.

I have been under an intense fire fight with these bastards but as it is, what I have learnt is then know who they're attacking. They know these guys on ground are armed with riffles, gun trucks and RPG.

They come with grenade launchers, rocket etc. My question why is grenade launcher in limited use by our own? Proper usage of these equipments is also necessary too. My opinion is, find a way to put SF with some of these guys with limited coin experience.

I have been with MSF and came under attack at our temporary location. First thing you do is to spread out. Everyone knows the right place to face. Repelling the attack heavily with gun trucks, mortars from my side and GL from the msf.
