Just called the Tbills officer in one of the FBN branches.

He said he has 101 Days, Secondary market for 10.80%.

You think that’s a good offer?

I had to stay my order since last week hoping it’ll improve this week.

People probably skipped your question because of the complex Mathematics involved in it, but I took the pleasure in solving it for you. And I've got the answer for you brother

Go for the 101 days. It is a very good offer. And I'll explain why here. Will try to make sure it isn't confusing.

Assuming you wanted to invest 1,000,000 Naira. Say you invested it for 364 days at 11%. You would get an interest of 110,000 Naira, right? Okay. Now when you you invest this 1,000,000 Naira at 10.80% for 101 days, you are getting 29,967 Naira (please I hope you know how I got this, else please read previous pages smiley. Now here comes the difficult part. Since your goal is to invest for 1 year and get that sweet (though poor) 11%, what you can do is to reinvest your money, after it matures, within that 364 days period. Divide 364 days by the 101 days and you would get 3.6. Now multiply that 29,967 Naira interest (that you get after the 101 days) by the 3.6 (364 days by 101 days), and that gives you 107,999.9 Naira. So now you can see that if you invested your 1,000,000 Naira for every 101 days until the 364th day (364 days divided by 101 days, times the interest of 29,967 Naira), you would be getting 107,999.9 Naira, a mere difference of 2000.1 Naira if you did it for 364 days at 11%.

I doubt if this would make sense to anyone, but I would really appreciate it if you could like this if it made sense to you. Would just like to know I got across to at least one person haha

My branch is Yinka Folawiyo plaza branch , Warehouse road, Apapa.

The secondary market tenor available was not attractive. I have been monitoring the available secondary market tenors since last week with the mind that if i get 300+, i pick it otherwise i wait for primary market.

What is the probability of getting another 10.8% for 101 days after the maturity of the first 101 days or subsequent 101 days and what is also the probability of getting it immediately without a loss of any day?. Just multiplying by 3.6(364/101) is too theoretical in my opinion.

Rant! Rant!! Rant!!!

It seems that outside Lagos, bank branches in other states do not know anything about TB.

I was in a branch of gtbank somewhere in the east early this morning to enquire about TB. The customer care guy was just too clueless. In fact, I was the one that seemed to be schooling him. After sometime, he gave me his number, and asked me to call him around 2pm.

I left, called the guy around past two and he was saying they haven't gotten mail from HQ. Lol.

I finished what I was doing and headed to stanbic. Even though I don't have an account there, the CS guy was far more knowledgeable. In fact, we were chatting like old friends. I have never met a more friendly, polite bank customer care representative. He even showed me the rates on his system. 11.something percent for 91 days. 12.something percent for 181 days and 13.something for 364.

Because of the guy, I had to open an account with stanbic. Although I'm yet to receive my account number because it was already past 5pm when we concluded. So, it is likely I have missed this primary market. I'm going to wait for the next primary market.

Can you guys believe I went to one UBA branch in the Southwestern part of Nigeria. I submitted my TBs application since Monday, 27th August 2018, but I have not been debited? When I went back to the bank to lodge my complaints, the guy in-charge said, "THERE WAS NO BID". This is (now) the 3rd week since I've submitted my application at UBA; what is wrong with that bank?!

Boss,
For GTBank Tbills in primary market bid, you do not have to go to the bank at all. Everything can be done from the comfort of your room as i have been doing for years. when you login to your internet banking, you will see the details of your relationship manager. Send them a mail not later than Monday of the primary auction week to bid you for the next treasury bills and it will be done.Your account will be debitted for the same amount and tenors on Thursday and the details of your treasury bills auction will appear at the bottom when you login to your internet banking.

I usually do this via my laptop using the following address

You can give it a try on the mobile app too if it will work.
All the best.

But really i hate T bills

Money invested in T bills can fund a lot of infrastructural development.

Over 5 Trillion of PFA money is in T bills.

Can you imagine?

5 Trillion?

This is discounting several other massive pots of investment.

MMF beats T bills anyday. You know why?

Your portfolio managers have information you can NEVER have.

Enjoy

Bro please can you explain more because I never did TB. I've always invested in MMF. But all the loud noises of TB that drowns the voice of MMF investors makes it look as though TB compared to MMF is like the difference between Bsc and HND.

Based on my research, both are six of one and half a dozen of the other

From your angle, just point the flashlight and let me see what you're seeing.

TB is King anyday,anytime..!!
How can one compare TB to MMF .? What a joke..
In TB,you get your interest UPFRONT while in MMF your interest is compounded daily.....Don't be deceived by the higher interest rate because if we apply the time value of money,MMF will be boxed down the ring utterly..
Remember in TB you sleep with your two eyes closed once you are credited with the UPFRONT INTEREST, while in MMF you have to be monitoring your investment daily.......My brother,"Peace of mind" should come first.
Also,MMF have more bank charges compared to TB.
MMF is just an attached investment..
Fund managers,....lol........I agree they are experts to a reasonable extent...but don't be surprised that some Fund Mangers don't even do MMF but TB.
Even the best investors in MMF have their "Main funds" in T.B...ask them well, and they will tell you.
You can just use your attached interest and invest it in MMF...
MMF is in the same league with "Fixed Deposit" but a better upgrade.....but never compare it to T.B.

Quite Right,

But both TB and MMF are kings anytime any day.

The basic is to know what your appetites are, we don't all want to put our eggs in one basket, neither want to be cash strapped.

If you are sure you wont need your cash in 3, 6 or 12 months, you can go for TB (yes you can sell in secondary market anytime, but if you have attempted to do that you will know that the rates are not juicy at all).

If you are the type that have the probability of needing emergency cash, then go for MMF.

I do both TB and MMF (in calculated proportions) and I'm having rest of mind....not until I decided to stake in high risk MMF embarassed

I will say that if your money is small and comes in trickles, you should go for MMF and then build a reasonable amount there after which you move such to TB. TB is sweet when the money is not small.

I beg experts in the house, I went to UBA today to ask them why my application for TBills was not processed after over 2 weeks (I submitted 27th August).
I was told, 'They have a problem' which cannot allow them to bid in the pry market for me; whereas the pry market is open this week. So my question is, I am considering switching to Stanbic IBTC, and I wish to use the bank bid rate at pry market. Does anyone experience a seamless transaction with Stanbic IBTC? Or is it the same bad story?
