Experienced Dog Owners Only by Othello92(m): 6:24pm On Sep 14, 2018 |
I have two dogs of GSD breed. One is of pedigree parent, the other is not. They are both friendly and obey commands like sit, come, stop and get inside. However, their friendliness to all is what troubles me. The female, which is the youngest is crated 24hrs expect during walking hours but whenever she is freed she is so friendly even to strangers. The male, about 2yr old barks at strangers when he is crated but once he is let out, he is willing to play with them. Unlike the female, the male is let loose every night. My concern is on the issue of their friendliness. I want them to be a little bit aggressive to strangers so I can feel like boss. Cause with these their attitude I don't know if they can watch the house in the absence of all my family members. Please, I need advice from an experienced dog lover. |

Othello92:I had this same problem too some years back. The problem is that friendliness and playfulness is actually a natural built in character of some dogs and in most cases there is really nothing one can do to make them aggressive and territorial. I would advise you to give these dogs back and get back your money and if that is not possible then you should sell them and get Rottweilers instead because most of them have this natural instinct to be territorial and protective they are also naturally vicious. 1 Like |

Stop their feeding, let them groan for food. the hunger might trigger aggressiveness. 5 Likes |

johnnyn1:No it will not! The best thing he can do is to hire a trainer but even that, might not work because it is their natural built in character. 1 Like |

I know peeps would argue with this concept but to make a playful dog aggressive u have to mess with it's psyche. Every tamed dog can be vicious. It's animal instinct. If u want to make ur dogs wild then u need to start being mean with em. Occasional whippings and starving with less playtime can change ur playful dog into a beast. If u have the courage to hurt ur dog's feelings then definitely they can change into what u want them to be. |

RussianKGB: you will end up having a fearful dog and there is nothing worse than a fearful dog. OP stuffs like this are genetic if you dogs are not aggressive there is not much you can do. 3 Likes |
Re: Experienced Dog Owners Only by RussianKGB: 12:59am On Sep 15, 2018 |
rumenase:Yes and no. The reason a dog gets too playful is basically the absence of fear. When a dog plays with everyone and everything it shows a lot of trust and an absence of fear of danger. When u start being aggressively violent with a dog it instills fear in it and also exposes it's psyche to d fact that humans are dangerous. The dog therefore acts on that fear to be vicious with strangers. With time that fear becomes its strength. So in essence u need to instill fear in a playful dog to awaken it's animalistic instincts to know danger and also be able to defend itself. |

Locate a friend who has aggressive dogs I repeat dogs. And keep ur dogs there for a while. Your dogs will begin to see how your friends dogs guards the house. Barks and attack which he might learn one or two. This method have been proven over time. Also know that agressivesness and dominant behaviour grow in dogs with age. As they grow older, they become more territorial. For the female, if you have intentions of breeding, don't make her aggressive. Othello92: 1 Like |

rumenase: In breeding, aggression increases after birth. So if you have a dam that's very aggressive before birth this traits will definitely increase during pregnancy which might give you a 50/50 chance of losing pups. Even overtime some dams have shown aggression towards newly born pups which might be a chance most breeders aren't ready to gamble with. It's okay if she's playful when she becomes a mother she will be calmer and will have a balanced temperament. Save the aggression training for the males when breeding. 1 Like |

14teenK: Yes they will be bullied but this won't reduce a 2years old dog's confidence. Every pack must have a pack leader. Who will bully others to have it more but this doesn't reduce the confidence of others. Dogs are a social animal which this dog will learn protective instincts from the pack. When a dog attacks, the others shows support. This very scenerio is even common with or local breeds. You see them charge together. Overtime the dog will inculcate this attributes and do same on his own. 2 Likes |

Hi. I have just read all you guys said... I have this same issue currently and this will be long. I have a slant back GSD which we all understand are show dogs... this dog is so dull that even if you bring loud speakers into my compound, she will even dance and welcome you like it's Christmas day.... I have had to get a BB pup[9 weeks] from extremely tough parents infact this bb started barking the moment she got into the compound... she is currently 10months. I have noticed a behaviour in her which is heart breaking, she has been learning not to be aggressive from the GSD. At 3 - 4 months she would bark if strangers enters the compound or when the gate is knocked. Right now at 10months, all she does is look... infact I was really heart broken when someone came to fix pumping machine and for me to meet the lad petting my big BB. Right now I am still trying to know what really happened. The only time the BB barks is when other dogs on my street barks.... as for the GSD... she's just a show dog.... she just want to play and cry like a baby even at 13 months!!! So op, some dogs are just meant to be like that... it's in there bloodbline / something she got from her parents or 1 of them... my gsd stayed with aggressive dogs for weeks she didn't change. Even the BB right now toss her around like coin. The BB would want to tear her arm all she would do is cry or run away. Pls continue to love your dog if you can't sell them off, you can make them breeding dogs while you get an adult vicious dog. 2 Likes |

McMayor:Exactly. The only joy I derive from my dogs is that all other dog in the neighborhood are scared of them and they chase any dog once they see it. But when it comes to human all dey do is wag their tail and dance. |

mhd5757: the trainer is someone like us too bro. the internet has so many packages for that. still I will advice the OP restrict the dog, restricts I mean lock them up in the cage. Act like they don't exist feed only once. once in a while take em for walks. Also Have conversation with them. |

If they can do that then they should be able to scare and bark at strangers. If they havnt, do as I posted above. it might help. something happened with my dog wen she was still 5month. We went to see a VET friend. he has a Gsd too. when we entered the compound Omo con see bark wey this dog give us, Eragon fear menh, she was almost running away but I calmed her down, all this while she no bark oo. then i chained her to a gate, left her and was going nearer to the dog barking at me the moment I was really close to the Gsd my Eragon started barking seriously at the bigger dog oh. she was barking to stop the bigger dog from barking at me. Immediately the bigger one went mute. I was daised ooo, make iono lie my head swell ooo. lol If the scolding, food seizure worked for me, it might work for you too. Othello92:
