Hello house,

I read sociology and graduated with a 2.1 from Uniport but I never practiced it, instead I got into IT, first as a digital marketer then as a freelancer for two years now.

I have two issues,

1. I want to apply for the skilled worker program under social work which is a 189 and assessed by AASW. But I don't know what this requires or if my lack of experience in the field will be an issue.

2. I could also apply as a copywriter or technical writer but these are 190 and are hardly sponsored by any state. What would be the best process for me.

Thank you.

Hi guys, I'm back again. Still on the ICAA issue. Please if you were assessed by ICAA, I really need your help. I need to know if I can do without submitting the handbook/syllabus as required. It has been really difficult/annoying getting this from OAU. Now they are saying I have to show up to collect handbook. Imagine going all the way to Ife for departmental handbook. I sent someone there and they wouldn't give. Please did anyone get assessed without the handbook/ syllabus?

Hello, please have you gone through the assessing authority's website to ascertain the requirements for social worker. I don't know if experience is needed, but I want to believe it is very likely to be a requirement. This is one of the many disciplines with professional year and multiple internships in Australia.

I do not know much about these occupations you're seeking to nominate, but I'm sure members who know a thing or 2 about them will surely come to your aid with the right info.

All the best

Just run from that social worker You won't get positive from them. Focus to tailor your experience to something else vetassess has multiple options

Hello brothers and sisters,
I'm a Nigeria trained nurse (BNSc, RN, RM, MNsc - Psychiatric Nursing)

I'm currently in clinical practice in one of the FMC's, but I'm considering migrating to Australia and I will like to practice in the academia (be a university lecturer) when I get there.

So I would like our brothers and sisters that have taken the route before to educate me on what will be required for me to be integrated into their system as a university lecturer.

I learnt that I will be reevaluated by their nursing council and be reissued a new license (which is normal)
But what will happen to my masters degree, will it be accepted?
What's the minimum requirement for lecturing job there?
Will my race (black race) be a constraint to this dream?

Thanks for your time as I await your replies.

I am really interested in moving to Australia though I was contemplating on going to Canada initially but this thread as been able to open my eyes to Australia. I will love if any of the bosses over there can help access my options.
I have ND in journalism but prior then I learnt Printing and worked for about 4 years under people before striking out on my own since about 10 years ago till date. I am also a Pig farmer this came to the fore when I checked SA list of nominated skills. I have also been doing this for over 7 years.
My question is can I really be considered due to the fact that my recent experience in the printing world is self employment so I have no one giving me a pay slip.
thanks for your reply

PS. Please I saw something about trade certificate for vocations anyone with the knowledge of how and where to get this certificate in Nigeria should please help with the information. Thanks

To address your concern, I have a bit of experience with the nursing thing, The main goal for you now is the get a positive skills assessment first. It's going to be hectic cos of different bodies involved. I think the first body you will need to deal with is AHPRA https://www.ahpra.gov.au/ The regulate licencing for Medical professionals. From my understanding, you need to get a principle letter from them or so, in that letter they will outline what you need to do to gain Australian Registration. You now have to take the letter and everything again to ANMAC https://www.anmac.org.au/ for skills Assessment. Positive from ANMAC you apply for PR, come here and do an IRON program or bridging----> Gain Australian registration. Work for a bit. apply for top jobs. IT CAN BE DONE
So you are looking at MENTAL health nursing. Write English first must be academic IELTS OR PTE 7 minimum in each band.
Once u gain registration and you have full working rights you will run from nursing jobs in this country, especially mental health. TOO MUCH WORK

Hello people,

Going through the points table for Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190), I can't see any sub-category for Masters under academic qualification.
What category can I select please knowing that I have Msc?

Also, what does the skill assessment entail? I have gone through but still can't figure out what I'm to do. From what I read, it's supposed to be very important.

You may get a positive assessment, however your experience may be reduced to less than a year (considering the normal 1 year Vetassess deducts and another 3 years if your qualification is not closely related to your nominated occupation Customer service manager)

https://www.expatforum.com/expats/australia-expat-forum-expats-living-australia/138750-vetassess-skill-assessment-time-1192.html#post14641354

I fear that I may be in a similar position. BSc Applied Microbiology and 10 years banking experience.

I'm torn between filling for 222311 (which currently best matches my job profile) and the Customer service manager. Does the inclusion of non-degree professional qualifications matter?

What do you think VETASSESS may readjust my work experience to? Thanks.

No just requires a lot of follow up from Nigerian Authorities to send your stuff to them. Step by step process.

Readjust your work experience if need be, VETASSESS cares only about employment(Statement of service) once your duty matches AUSSIE own that's it. No copy word for word. Since u work in the bank
222112 Finance Broker Competent Plus English (or Proficient overall); Offshore applicants Provisional 489 visa only
222113 Insurance Broker Competent Plus English (or Proficient overall); Offshore applicants Provisional 489 visa only
149212 Customer Service Manager Proficient Plus English (or Superior overall); Provisional 489 visa only

These are all GREEN now SA list, the only difference is that with 149212 Customer Service Manager you will need to provide Organisation organogram.

Kk. I understand now. Thanks.

1. But will I still suffer any cut to my years of experience as my BSc is from a different background, though my job description matches their requirements?

2. Pardon my ignorance please, what will the statement of service be like? Document endorsed by Departmental/Branch head? Or just a letter from me?

It's good to have options lol, You can go to EA or to VETASSESS
234112 Agricultural Scientist Competent Plus English (or Proficient overall); Offshore applicants Provisional 489 visa only VETASSESS
311111 Agricultural Technician Competent Plus English (or Proficient overall); Provisional 489 visa only VETASSESS
Agricultural Scientist 234112(some NSW regions)

Or You go to EA. A couple of states want Engineers as well as Agric.. professionals. Depending on how quick you can get your Nig. Transcript to Vetassess you can apply for their priority processing($1600 10 days assessment is finalised) same with almost what you will spend for EA which can take time. When the assessment is out depending on you and other factors such as English.. For 489 you get 10 more points so all you are looking for is to land yourself on 65 points inclusive of the 10. For EA you will be hoping to get nominated by a state 190 which is really competitive now or 189 If you can bag 8,8,8,8 then you are safe. In conclusion, if you get get a superior then follow EA, if not maybe try other options which are easier and quicker.

1. So if the degree is not highly relevant most time they will cut 2yrs post to give you a positive assessment. some cases are different but not with the jobs I have listed. so Degree no matter na work experience in this your case.

2. Just refrence letter from HR or your manager stating your details, employment date(s), roles, contact details etc.

Kk. I believe I'm good to go. My only grouse with the 489 visa class, is the 10 - 15 months processing time.
Can I get the link to those job descriptions you screenshot please? Need to review them properly. Thanks a lot.
