Did you also take into consideration how many middle belt officers lost their lives in the first coup. Could it be a major factor in their reaction. People are not static, they relate and react based on experiences, people identify and de-identify with people and states based on collective experiences and events over a course of time. If you have identified with a course previously based on shared common interests, you can decide to alienate yourself and redefine if the reasons are no longer tenable. It's just the way we are as humans. 2 Likes 1 Share |

The concept of sacrifice originated with the Almighty God. The account of Abraham and his son Isaac spelled out the limit — What God permits. Even Jesus Christ sacrificed his human life for us all. Christianity is not a white religion as some may claim. Christianity is an extension of God’s chosen Israelites, which by his grace is now spiritual Israelites which accomodates people of all nations who would willingly accept Christ’s sacrifice. There have always been people who served other God’s right from time. But I understand, you are talking about something that has to do with placebo? ? Mickael2: |

rabzy: Ahmadu Bello and Tafawa Balewa were not from the Middle Belt were they? I don't have a detailed account of the Northern Army officers that died in that coup but these two I mentioned were the two Core Northerners consumed by the coup. Well, you may be right. Because the Core of the Nigerian Army then and till date are men of the Middle Belt. |

komekn: First of all, a nation is a nation if he call itself a nation. Therefore, if any tribe call themselves whatever in a larger proportion, so they are, though we can have at the back of our mind their true origin for academic purposes only. This brings me to agree with you after many encounters with ikwerre, kwale and ika that they are not Igbo because they wish not to be called so but rather see themselves as Ikwerre nation, kwale nation, Igala nation Edo nation etc. I don't know about Ogoni. That can also be said of Itshekiri who don't see themselves as Yoruba but as Itshekiri nation though their monarch and political leaders have associated and formed a coalition with the Afenifere and other Yoruba whatever. Let me also draw your attention to Anioma people of Delta state. It is not a tribe, it's a composition of different Tribes coming under one umbrella Anioma. Some Benin, some Igbo, some Isoko, some Igala and to your amazement Yoruba made the composition that formed Anioma for political reasons. Yes! Yoruba. This group is called Olukumi people. They are located in the Aniocha North local government and belongs to the Odiani clan which occupies 8 communities in Aniomaland. But have adopted Igbo culture in terms of kingship, names, etcetera except its Olukumi language. Someone like Nduka Ugbade is an Olukumi indigen though he bares Igbo name. However, how they see themselves now matters. |

That u are an American with a black skin doesnt make u less an African, despite the circumstances. In Okpara Okoro's case, he even has his place named after him, thats to remind his generations to come who they are and where they are from. Joebie: Errr, I wouldn't exactly call it placebo, it does have an efdct on your psychology which is at the end of the day important in any treatment. Sacrifice originated from God no doubt but even Jesus chose between staying back in heaven and dying for us and besides His death wasn't exactly similar to the sacrifices we learn about in ATR. Yes Christianity is a modification of the Jewish way of life, every country is allowed to make one or two modifications to suit their own lifestyle which is why it is very funny when people start calling it the white man's religion |

Sir i Only asked about the North. Are u saying people of other ethnicities always saw themselves as Hausas until Gowon did what he did. Saying I’m from the North is not the same as saying I’m Hausa. Political regions and tribes are two separate entities. What am I saying here? Just because we now have Niger-Delta, does not stop an Urhobo man from knowing his distinct roots as different from an Igbo man. I’m not tying to go political with this discussion. My focus has been Nigerians should learn what makes the many tribes in this country unique. Just as Safarigirl pointed out people change identities for political/economic reasons, but having the said knowledge would even make everyone aware of each other’s intentions whenever the situation calls for it. I understand that. But if they think their claiming Yoruba or Igbo as the case may be would benefit them won’t they change their identity again? Leave that divide and rule matter. Aniomas know their origin. Don’t they understand an Igbo man when he speaks? safarigirl: 1 Like |

Joebie: From what we know placebo is an end in itself. Let's say you tell someone to take a lot of cassava because they are suffering from conjunctivitis now that cassava has absolutely no effect on his eyes but because a doctor said so he might actually get cured, that's what placebo is...I believe. But this one is just psychologically getting the patient ready to receive the proper treatment which is just a means to an end which is why I said I am not totally sure I would call it placebo but even if you you wouldn't be totally wrong. Na the devil's copy copy dey confuse people most times, I totally agree. Like some confraternities drink actual human blood and they will be like isnt that what you also drink |

forgiveness:my attitude 2 issues of tribal identity is to respect the opinions of peoples from the said community. If they call themselves whatever name even though their language and culture says otherwise who am I to disagree. Australians even though we know their ancestors were originally from britain we don't say they're british but australians same way americans or canadians even though most of their people originally came from england. Even though some communities in Edo state speak and bear yoruba names we can't insist they are yorubas if they choose not to identify themselves as such. Like you I have met friends and colleagues from kwale, ika areas who insist they are not Igbo. I know a lot of ikwerres also do that as well 1 Like |
